It looks as if my chassis could be about to get a major boost, as Tom Lowe has asked to see it.

I'd like your comments both on the design and also the passing over (or not) of the concept to Round2.

Montoya- I like it. It is extremely straightforward and simple. Since I run on a MM Lock and Joiner, the ability to raise the chassis with bigger tires and not sacrifice traction by lowering the magnets is a plus.
You have been trying to get somebody interested in this since I have been on this board, so best of luck with Tom Lowe. You deserve a shot with your innovation.

Good luck Deane. My comments about the chassis:

1) The guidepin mounting system needs to be redesigned. Something with variable pin placement along the lines of what you would find on a Storm or ThunderCat would be best but a standard Tomy Turbo style would be okay if you want to keep it simple.

2) If the chassis is to be constructed from plastic the entire structure will have to be thicker. The 90 degree angles around the magnets will have to be beefed up with gussets for added strength.

3) Snap-in rear axle is a must.

4) The manufacturability probably needs to be assessed. I can't see how the magnet jacking screws work or how the magnets are retained. Not from the picture at least. If precision hand assembly is required the overall cost will be higher.

5) If it comes down to cutting costs the variable magnets would probably be the first thing to be dropped. You'd have to consider incorporating an alternative fixed magnet arrangement.

I can't really comment on the relationship with Tom. You should try to find someone who has dealt with him on this sort of thing.

I just want to wish you the best of luck no matter what happens Deane. I like the movable guidepin to adjust for various tracks it could be great for club racers. But what ever needs to be doneas AFX said.. Do it make a fortune and buy us all dinner at Outback.

Looks like your chassis is set up for AFX/Tomy style bodies, Consisder adapters for Tyco or others. I like the movable guide pin. Are you the same guy who designed the "Scorpion" chassis ? Good luck, I hope it sells !

I'll second AFX2s comment on the guide pin.Something that snaps in and is adjustable like the Storm would be great.

Just a thought, but it might make it a little easier for slot car new comers if you used a slot head set screw instead of a hex head one for the magnet adjustment.
Not everyone has allen wrenches lying around the house like we all do,but everyone pretty much would have a small screwdriver of some sort.
Unless you included a wrench with the car, which would be another option, but would of course increase your cost.

I sure hope that this chassis goes into production.Good luck!!!!!!!!

Cool looking chassis!

Did you say earlier that it is made steel?
(Shades of SUPER CHASSIS! The chassis of steel!)

Have you tried aluminum?
(Or for the high roller titanium...? )

But don't take me to serious...
It has been a long day and I am feeling bit silly...

Yep, I'm the Scorpio guy except now I'm calling the chassis the PS2.

I only made it from steel because the parts can be made very precisely & I had access to a guy who is really good at soldering.

The next step if Mr Lowe does not swoop in is to get the steel chassis cast in something lighter.

Thanks for all the positive comments and good wishes guys - it means a lot.
