View Full Version : Gluing Battery Packs
hankster 11-09-2005, 12:10 PM The best way I have found to assemble battery packs and still make them easy to take apart is with Shoe-Goo. It holds them together securely but can still be disassembled without damage. Shoe-Goo can be found at most department stores.
bsracing8 11-16-2005, 09:07 PM I also use shoe goo to hold me electronics in the car!!

burbs 11-16-2005, 09:44 PM when assembling with shoe go i have found it to be best to do it before you do the bars.. i use an old pan car chassis plate. i set the cells on it while glued.. i hve found this gives the perfect cell spacing to fit into cars.. it is also nice because you can keep the cells tight against the grafite so there totally inline..
bsracing8 11-18-2005, 10:26 AM burbs great idea!!!

BOB LEE 00 07-07-2006, 03:12 PM I Have Not Treid The Shoe Goo. I Cant Find It Anywhere. I Have Been Using Gorilla Glue. They Have It At Lowes And Home Depot. Just Use A Little!!! To Much And They Will Stay Where You Sit Them Down At Forever!! Kinda Like That Old Penny Glued To The School Desk Trick. (man I Hated That)
swtour 07-07-2006, 11:30 PM I know that a couple stores in my area sell a product called something like XP2000 that IS the same thing as the ShoeGoo. Shoe Goo should be in EVERY tool box, at every track.
I use it to glue my switch to the speed control, my power capacitor (For the Spektrum) to the chassis. (I just put one in Each Car)
It's great because you take break it loose and roll it with your fingers to get it off (unlike Superglue or something)
BudJ63 07-08-2006, 07:41 AM Plumbers Goop is the same as Shoe Goo. You can find it at any home improvement store.

Bob, First off, Welcome to Hobby Talk, I told you there was info on everything here.
Believe it or not almost every Wal-Mart carries shoe goo. Even most of the employee's have no idea what you're asking for and will tell you they don't carry it. Look in the shoe department in the area where they stock shoelaces and other shoe care products. Usually it's on a freestanding display with other products near the front of the shoe dept. Kmart used to carry it in the sporting goods section but I have'nt seen it in any Kmarts in years.
The Goop Bud(Hi Bud)mentioned is also good or so I've heard but I haven't used it.
And you have new packs to build? Somebody wants 34 laps in stock huh?
briano_72 07-08-2006, 11:20 AM was in the hardware section of my wal mart !!
mr_meat68 07-14-2006, 01:32 AM plumbers goop has been working well for me. you can pick that up at just about any plumbing supply store.
tracy339 07-14-2006, 07:59 PM A large syringe makes for a neat job when applying the shoe goo.

How do you get the shoe goo in the syringe?
tracy339 07-20-2006, 05:06 PM You'll need one with a removeable stem. Make sure your packs are all laid out the way you want them. Just squeeze some shoe goo into the tube, add a little more than you think you'll actully need so it flows out smooth. Make's a nice bead, just like using a chaulking gun. The syringe I use was one I got with diff lube, IRS I belive.
NCFRC 07-22-2006, 10:36 PM Goop is all the same formula !
Eclectic solutions is just a great marketing co. so they market it under shoe goo , automotive goop , marine goop , plumbers goop , ect , ect. Buy the cheapest available .
IndyRC_Racer 08-24-2006, 02:07 PM The syringe is a good idea. Better than getting fingers sticky.
awhite 10-20-2006, 10:04 AM You can go to just about any pharmacy and get a syringe. I get mine at the Wal-Mart pharmacy.
nickcacc 10-20-2006, 11:58 PM I usually just put a small bead right out of the tube along the side of one cell and shove the other cell into it. It's also great if you should happen to develop a body tear, sort of like a goo weld.
partyplatedave 12-31-2006, 12:51 PM you find it at shoe stoors....LOL
tcian 01-15-2007, 12:36 AM wal-mart has it pretty cheap
ohiorcracer 01-22-2007, 03:32 PM Another idea is to use a hot glue gun it puts a nice bead and not messy and you can buy 100 glue sticks for $1.50.
tcian 01-22-2007, 05:30 PM i never thought of that god idea
superdave2 02-10-2007, 08:22 PM dont use shoo goo use a hot glue gun it dries faster and its a little bit less stringy but use what what ever you want
Eppler 08-05-2007, 03:50 PM I like hot glue. Also after having a 1300 dollar helli go down from exhaust oil getting in my battery Pac I dip them in rubber tool dip to 100% seal them up.
briano_72 08-05-2007, 08:35 PM i tryed the wifes hot glue gun and it didnt really stick to the shrink on the batts, what was i doing wrong ??
RC10B3GUY 08-17-2007, 01:02 AM briano- you have to use a very high temp glue. if you don't the glue heats up with the battery temp. also, try making sure the shrink is clean and dry.
zune1 08-22-2007, 10:20 PM use shoe goo ,works awesome
penning4544 08-30-2007, 05:42 PM Do you guys put the individual shrink wrap on also? I just did 2 packs and didn't put the extra shrink on the cells because I couldn't get them on. Or is there a trick for that?
briano_72 09-02-2007, 10:20 AM yes, that saves your labels !!
superdave2 10-15-2007, 09:39 PM I like hot glue. Also after having a 1300 dollar helli go down from exhaust oil getting in my battery Pac I dip them in rubber tool dip to 100% seal them up.

this sounds like a good idea in theory but batteries need to breathe and if they cant breathe i believe they can explode especially when charging them. so be careful.
torrnado 11-10-2009, 06:08 AM i use 2 part epoxy glue to assemble my battery packs, dont want them flying apart lol
