I think this subject has been discussed before but I thought I'd touch on it one more time.

I know a lot of you clean your foam tires. I have two questions:

1. What benefit do you get from cleaning them?

2. What process and cleaners do you use?

I'm running at a track that has a ton of bite and my tires come off very sticky. Am I losing speed because of TOO MUCH traction?

Any help wil be appreciated! Thanks!

Kevin

During a race day, I use either rubbing alchol, or motor spray, After a night of racing i wash them in the sink with soad and water

I clean my tires after every run with some motor spray and a rag...Let air dry for 30 Mins or so and goop them when ready to go back out......It keeps the tires from getting "gummy"...........feel more consistent each run

I use lighter fluid at the track and use Dawn detergent after a night of racing.

Pan Man I also race at some very high bite tracks. Start by getting yourself a roll of those blue shop towels now you can use lighter fluid or motor spray. I use motor spray the good stuff that evaporates, spray a generous ammount on the towel and scrub you tire untill most or all black comes off the tire. Repeat this methood untill satisfied on each tire. You must do this after every run for you cars handling to be consistant. Its the only thing that works besides fresh rubber for each run.

Ronsonol (in the yellow bottle with blue letters) Lighter Fluid works the best for me. I have used everything from soap & water to motor spray to suntan loation but this is the only thing that doesn't leave a residue & keeps the tires consistent.

Brent just watch cause the Ronsonol can soften the tires. For flat track that might not be a bad thing but for banked track it made my tires too soft.

I stick to motor spray.
If your track has good traction try using Jack the Gripper and your tires really dont need cleaning. I find when using the Paragon's and the TQ's is when you most need to clean your tires.

At the Ovalmasters instead of cleaning my tires, I just skim cut the tires after each run, to get the fresh foam to the top again. Didn't need to clean them or scrub the tires in, they were dialed each run like that. Plus it was alot cheaper than running new foam each heat.

You mean you don't use "soad and water" like everyone else!

Would brake cleaner work the same as Motor Spray?? just wondering, cause thats what we use on our motors, and i dont have a local hobby shop to get motor spray.

Also guys, my Friend was wondering what is "soad" is this a sort of soap brand or what?? i personally have never herd of it and am kinda curious.

If you can't get motor spray at least use electic contact cleaner from NAPPA 4700 is the part number or your local automotive store or just buy lighter fluid from walmart rather than break cleaner. Also over time break cleaner will eat at lamminations or film on the windings of your motor causing it to short out. Plus it doesn't evaperate. Break cleaner also leaves a slippery film not good for electronics. Hope this helps.

usually when i use motor spray it takes almost all of the stickiness out of the tires.

Has anyone tried "Stick-It" tire cleaner? We use it for paved oval, both banked and flat. There is also "Stick-It" traction compound that works as a pair with the cleaner if you need to add more grip. We have found that the cleaner alone works well.

Of course, after the night of racing we Arizonan's use soad and water also:) LMAO
