Hey guys, first time posting here. My neighbor has got a 5hp TroyBilt Chipper/Vac that won't start. New fuel, lines clear, bowl is wet, but from there on, nothing. Plug/spark/timing/compression good.

When i opened up carb, it was disgusting, gumming and varnish so bad, the throttle nor the choke would move. The float had a good 2mm of varnish.

My guess is the venturi injection tube, (insert technical name here) is clogged tight, amoung other things...

How should i go about clearing it? Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

yes, that carb needs a good overnight soak in carb cleaner, and a good blow out with air, and cleaner. if the gaskets seem well enough to reuse, then maybe you'll get by with em. otherwise a gasket kit is in order. and make sure the float doesn't have gas in it, or feels heavy.

I cleaned the tube with a paperclip, just what i thought, full of varnish. Thanks alot for the advice.

It works fine now, though i screwed with the mixture screws. how should i adjust them?

1.5 turns out, from all the way in snug, for both screws. don't wrench em down though. then fine tune when its warmed up. should go full throttle without hardly any hesitation
