I know its a pretty common and pretty simple custom, but Im still getting my feet wet with cutting these things up. This merc began life as a Universal Monsters release and has been slightly modified :) Removed almost all of the paint (need to go buy aircraft paint stripper) I chopped the top off and sanded everything down. I also lowered the car to give it a better stance IMO. I just need to do a little bit more modifying to the front wheelwells so they can turn freely. The rears move smoothly. Not too much in the way of chassis mods, just some tubing to lower it and alot of grinding the chassis to get it sit as low as I could get it. I just need to decide on a color to paint the body and interior and then decide on the wheels.

Bronc - Very cool - my only complaint about that casting and the other led sled and even the El Camino are that they filled the side vent windows. For some reason that bugs the ba jeepers out of me - LOL!!

Nice work bro!!

Thanks Dip! I didnt really notice that until I had it all stripped down. I dont really like it either. Ive been thinking of ways to do it, but am not sure if i want to try. I could probably cut pieces of the rear part of the windshield or the top piece that connects them to make the vent windows. Im wondering if I could drill it out with a very small bit

Use a small bit at a low speed - then it won't get away from ya. I wonder why they did that.......

If the file fails; your first thought will work. Just cut the vertical out of the vent glass and file up to the front vent window molding . Use a piece of blister cut to fit the vent. Where the vertical should be simply paint a thin silver edge up the vent glass. Some of those old vents didn't have a vertical mold. Not sure about the Merc. Its lookin' good.

Hey Dip, I got the other vent window cut, just need to fill in some spots with bondo or JB and do some light filing to smooth them out. Ive noticed on the HW's and I think it was an Ertl, both of there mercs dont have the side vents. I was thinking about cutting them out, but I decided against it since I think that it looks better with the vents, I guess Ill do some research to what authentic. Im up in the air about color, flat black, green metal flake, or a blue pearl. Probably go with the flat black in the end. I wish I could make opening doors, I think suicide doors would look sick on this thing. Ive got the glass cut for the windows (windshield is in the backseat) , just waiting to paint. I would paint it tonight, but a last minute fishing trip popped up, so Ill paint it tomorrow on the day off.
