I have a 10 HP Briggs engine on my Coleman Generator. Last night it sprung a leak in the carb and I had gas everywhere when I woke up. My question is, how does the carb come off? It looks like it is slid over 2 long, thin bolts. But they look backwards. They are threaded on the end facing me(that's what the air cleaner cover bolts to). Anyways, are they hard to get off and rebuild or should I just take it somewhere?
BTW, the ends of the 2 bolts it's on have what look to be torx or star bit ends on them. Would I need something like an internal torx or star wrench to get them off? Sorry if this is stupid, but I'm kinda confused on this one.

yeah you'll need the right tools to get it off, anyway, to get to the carb, you'll have to take the air cleaner off.......those two long thin bolts? the air filter cover screw downs? they are just there for the cover..... anyway, the carb comes off easy, two bolts. right at the engine. the carb curves towards the engine to the intake, where its bolted up, probablly has another support bracket that needs removed as well. and then the linkage......carefully. . . . .
as for gas leaking, you don't have to take the carb off to get the the fuel bowl, its held on by one bolt.....may have a pinhole in the bowl if its leaking out of there.....or a leaking bowl gasket. easy to get to. or its either overflowing with gas everywhere and the float may have formed a pinhole filling with gas, and sinking letting gas run out, or its stuck, or the inlet needle has stuck or just doesn't seal.

Thanks bugman. I was wrong in my description. The 2 long bolts don't hold the air cleaner cover on, they are under it and hold a metal plate(which is also the back of the air cleaner box) with a hole in it to the carb. They are threaded on toward the end and on the very end is what seems to be "torx-like" (for lack of a better term. I will pull the bowl off and check in there first. The generator has just been sitting in the garage and not run for a long time. It just started leaking out of nowhere. Does that help narrow down the cause?
thanks again

for how long? was the gas stabilized? even if it was and was there for a long time, atleast more then a year, the carb does need a tear down and clean out. the float must've formed a pinhole and sunk, letting gas flow everywhere, if it did, check the oil for a gas smell. ok as for the air cleaner....... there were older ones that used two long bolts, one on the bottom plate, one on the carb, took one bolt to hold the plate on since the other long bolt out of the carb held the rest of the plate on, and in turn, two nuts would hold the air filter down, and then another two wing nuts to hold the cover..... is this what your air cleaner looks like?

There are two screws that hold the cover on. The filter just sits in there. Then there are two nuts that hold a metal plate with a hole in it that is connected to the carbs. These nuts are on two long skinny bolts that go through each side of the carb into the block. It looks almost like the carb is slid over them. On the very end of each of these bolts(behind the threads) the ends look like torx bits. I didn't know if the carb would slide off these bolts or if there was a special way to get them off.
thanks again
