Isn't Richfield, OH in the midwest?

That makes it a midwest slot car show too!

Richfield opens in a little over one hour!

Some impressions from Sunday's Richfield slot car sale:

- The parking lot was full. The showroom had a decent crowd up until I left around noon but it was showing signs of thinning out.

- Bud's HO was nowhere to be found. I usually drop a few bucks at their table. The Bud's bucks are still in my pocket.

- There seemed to be lots of vintage race sets for sale and few people buying them.

- There were lots and lots of Johnny Lightning cars for sale. The best prices seemed to be in the $8.00-$9.00 range for single cars, with the more desirable ones slightly higher. The red chrome Charger club car is now officially cheap, like $12. These were sold to JL club members for $24.95-$29.95 or something like that. I guess membership really doesn't have its priviledges.

- There were still no signs of who might be the mysteryious 8000 cars @ $1.00/car buyer from Lightning Fest. Still waiting for that windfall stock to start hitting the streets.

- Some very good deals were to be had on early Tyco 440X2 and Life-Like M cars, 1990-1991 vintage.

- A lot of the inventory looked vewy, vewy familiar, like it was the same exact stuff that was there in the spring sale.

- Some decent deals were to be had on bulk packages of AFX bodies. I saw new green & white Porsche 917s 6 for $20. Not bad even if you are sick of that color. They take paint just fine. I was looking for similar deals on Tyco wide bodies but had no such luck.

- The guy from New Jersey who's always there selling new stuff for far more than what you can buy it for online even with shipping was there as usual. I wonder if he sells anything?

- Overall it was a decent show, but I would have liked to see more new products and some of the harder to find earlier Tomy EX cars. There's still no Tomy Taka Q parked at my raceway.

- This was the first time I left a Richfield show with plenty money still in my pocket. Something must be seriously wrong.

Good luck and happy hunting at the Matteson, IL show!

AFX too-
Don't be too upset about the show. Just think of the fact that while you were at the show those of us in Florida were just getting our power back on!
Do they ever have shows in Florida?

Richfield was my first show... And I had a blast. I went not knowing what would be there and was totally impressed. I was like a little kid in a huge candy store. I got to meet Bear, and Jeff from Motorcity Toyz. I also got to meet Bob Beers and had a great chat with him.

Also for those who know Kevin Crowe "The Winning Edge" will be happy to know that he is still working his wonders but currently he is back in Ohio. I had a great time talking with him as well.

I was trying to figure out how I would meet some of the guys that I talk to here on HT. AFXTOO, It sounds like we may have been standing right next to each other. HD Biker and I arrived way early (dummy me forgot about the time change) and we saw the line growing. I told him that I didn't even know what you looked like. Any way we also did our shopping and finished around noon. Maybe we should have a lapel pin made up with the HT logo and username for future events of this type... Just a thought.

AFXnut and I will be there. I'll have tjet wheelie bars, hot stock rewound pancake arms, tjet drag kits, 2 corian drag strips, maybe a few cars and just maybe a couple monstertrucks. I'm not sure what all AFXnut will have for sale.
If you come the night before make sure you visit us in the motel room so we can put a name to the face. We'll be drag racing on my portable strip if you haven't already seen my Nov. show question post. Rules are posted there also. Hope to see you there guys. This will probably be the last show I'll be selling at. I'll still be attending the shows with a few things for sale here and there, but probably just once a year since it's being moved. I'm still willing to do repairs on the trucks if anybody has any problems. :dude:

I'm not upset about the show at all, I just was hoping for some exciting new products. Buds always seems to have great deals on the newer stuff and on parts. I'm thrilled with the cars I got, especially the full set of Team Baurtwell cars mounted on 440X2 chrome wheel chassis. The Plymouth SuperBird and 57 Chevy in that set are absolutely awesome and the TransAm and Nomad aren't bad either. I've never even seen the actual Tyco/Mattel Team Baurtwell set out in stores, but if you see it - buy it for the cars. They rock.

The Chicago show is the best show I've ever been to. If we can ever pull together a national slot car collectors convention aligning it with the midwest show would be smart.

I'll be there at the Chicago show. I'll try to dust off an old TK Solver baseball cap for my ID. Do they have swap meets at these shows or do we just wheel and deal in the parking lot to make trades? Hee hee... By the way, what time do the doors open?

Hello, I'll have some TJET magnets for sale, maybe some painted lexan bodies, TYCO Track and AFX track, maybe some cars. I recently sold the rest of the cars I posted on the ForSale/Trade page. I have a Vibrater Semi with Trailer. Just stop by MTYODER'S and A/FX NUT'S table, #17. If anything, just to say hello. Randy.

Most dealers don't mind haggling and making deals. At some of the hotel based shows some of the sellers who are staying overnight sell out of their rooms the night before the show. I'm sure it's strictly unofficial but if you happen to be staying at the hotel and catch a glimpse of a hotel room jammed to the gills with slot cars and ask real nice... you never know, you might get a good deal.

I was thinking about trading cars/parts with other attendees, not just the sellers in the booths. For example, I know you'd like to get a taka-Q. Well if you had a spare Nissan GTP and somebody else had a spare taka-Q, you might be able to make a trade. I'm interested in swapping pull-back bodies. It just makes sense that we could make trades there and not have the hassle of packaging and shipping things.

There are always people who bring a box or two looking to trade. It just depends on if they have what you're looking for and vise-versa. It might help to wear a sign stating that your looking to trade. I realize it kinda makes you feel like a nerd, but it works. If your carrying a box you'll get asked if you have anything to sell or trade.

You should be sensitive to the show promotor's needs if you bring stuff to sell. If you plan to bring stuff to sell while walking around, check ahead of time with the promotor to make sure he or she is cool with it. Most promotors don't mind people bringing a limited number of personal items to sell. Just don't show up wearing a cottage industry business on a sandwich board with peg board and 36 rows of parts hanging or a big rolling fold out suitcase. It costs money to put on these shows, and the promotors help defray their costs with table rental fees. Common sense usually prevails and there are usually plenty of dealers looking to buy or trade for things that you bring. If in doubt - ask.

Yea! I agree with AFXtoo. Gotta pay your dues if your gonna be selling a bunch of stuff. Bringing in a small box if cars to trade aint no big deal though. Bringing a table on wheels would probably be a bad idea. At the last show there was a guy sitting outside the entrance to the show right across from the promoters table selling vintage tjets out of a box. I'm guessing they didn't like that too much. People sell out of their motel rooms the night before also, wonder what the promoter thinks of that. He's moving the show to another motel so maybe he dosen't care. I wish I could get enough people to attend in my area I'd find a place to have a show. I'm almost right in between the Illinois and Ohio shows.

I see a number of guys bringing in a small case or shoebox of cars to sell. I haven't seen the promoter get upset at any of them. Besides, they don't have enough inventory to justify buying a table. Those guys help the show and they usaully are going to the seller's tables to see what they can trade or sell for. I did see the promoter get on one of the sellers a couple of shows ago. He brought in a bunch of 1/24 scale model kits to sell, didn't go over too well.
This fall show is bigger than the spring one. Road Race Replicas makes the trip and that alone brings in some extra people.
I'd like to puts some faces to the names on this BB. So please stop buy and say Hi at Table 17. Randy.

No, It's the fall show he makes. He was there last November. I heard it's the weather in March around Chicago that keeps him from attending the spring show. Randy.

Did any one else get any 1/32 scale flood cars??? I bought four nice Fly cars and found that one of them had been submerged in muddy water. Talk about dirt effect.. I know when you look for full size cars after a flood or hurricane that you have to watch out.. But who would have thought about "new" slot cars? How do you clean the etched grill of a Lister storm? It has been corroded nearly shut.. M00SE

This was my first show and I was surprised by the turnout. Seemed packed for the first hour or so. A toy show full of toy lovers is a happy place I'd say. It was good to put faces with names too.

Moose, flood/hurricane damage is a bummer I hadn't even thought about. Seems like you should be able to get compensation of some sort. Maybe talk to the show promoter.

Hey, what a good time! It was real nice to meet some of the members from this BB. We had a blast the night before with the 1/8th mile dragstrip. FordCowboy asked me to race him. I didn't have anything that could. He said get a car that would be close, all he had has a stock gold/green arm. Well as it turned out I brought a butter knife to a gunfight.
I saw two new bodies that are coming out. One a 55 Chevy with a smooth hood from a gentleman (name unknown). This body will fit the A/FX and X Traction chassis. The complete body should be around $12.00.
Two, a Daytona Charger from Road Race Replicas that will fit the Thunderjet Chassis. This one looks great! Far more accurate than the JL-PM Daytona. It looks like it is going to be a 3 piece body, rear wing, and glass.
Motor City Toyz had great deals going (as usual). 5 cars for $40.00 unless marked otherwise.
Bud's Ho Cars wasn't there. :( I heard he isn't doing anymore shows because business at his store is so good he doesn't need to come to the slot shows. I'm happy for him, but I sure would have liked to have made some purchases from him.
With the new location of next year's Midwest Show, it will be interesting to see how many vendors make it back. Some said they don't know if they will be back or if they will only make one show.
I know one vendor who will not be there next year. It's the lady and gentleman that sells the hats, shirts, clocks, and coffee mugs.
Well this is enough of my rambling, Randy.

Had a great time at the show. Racing and chatting the night before was a blast too. I'm wondering who all will show when they move as well. Some vendors said they would give it a try, a couple said they won't go. I think the mojority of them will go to the new location, Maybe they'll get new vendors and buyers from the west that think Matteson is too far. :dude:
