The Poseidon Adventure has been remade!

What was wrong with Irwin's version?

Not enough water?

Why should he have had all the fun?

I'm guessing Kathy Bates will essay the Shelly Winters role.

Or Rosie O'Donnell.

... might be a good comeback vehicle for Sally Struthers.

Oh, come on, now! Be nice! Ms. Struthers isn't that big, after all.

She'd work well as the tug, tho.... ;)

Maybe Kirstie Alley and Roseanne Bar are in the running?

From the Internet buzz, the new Poseidon seems like a pretty impressive production. For sheer realism in a disaster-at-sea flick, though, you can't beat Andrew L. Stone's 1960 action melodrama The Last Voyage, with Robert Stack, Dorothy Malone and George Sanders. I mean, you can't get much more realistic than actually sinking an actual ship, can you? Jim Cameron and Wolfgang Petersen, eat your hearts out!

We need more remakes, like we need gas at $5.00 a gallon, or maybe really higher taxes.

And the way things are going, we'll get all three.

A remake of the Poseidon Adventure?

Hey, one good turn deserves another.

Couldn't resist. :p

Yep.

There were blood-stained stewards to be seen all over the Warner lot this summer. I guess this is what happens when the TV shows are on hiatus and not a lot else is going on.

This reminds me of the time my wife and I were planning a Carribean cuise back in 2000. A buddy of mine at work offered to copy the promo video that my travel agent had loaned me overnight so I'd have more time to watch it.

Of course, he did not mention the bits that he interspersed randomly from the end of Titanic, like just before the stern section sinks with the guy falling off the back deck and smacking into the propellor. The wife was NOT impressed.

I would like a shot at casting it. Here goes:

Orig. Star/ New Star
*********************************************
Gene Hackman/ David Caruso
Borgnine /Michael Chiklis
Red Buttons /Jason Alexander
Carol Lynley /Jennifer Aniston
Roddy McDowell/ David Hyde Pierce
Stella Stevens/ Madonna
Shelley Winters/ Queen Latifah
Jack Albertson /Harry Dean Stanton
Pamela Sue Martin /Natalie Portman
Arthur O'Connell /Alan Alda
Eric Shea /Frankie Muniz
Leslie Nielson /John Travolta

Go for it - try your own! If you can stand it.

I confess I'm vaguely interested in this re-make if for no other reason than the fact it's being directed by the fellow who made Das Boat.

Actually, he's not. I did a little research on IMDb.com and Wolfgang Peterson is making a new theatrical version of the story simply named POSEIDON that is coming out next year. I'm not sure what legal contortions allow for two versions of the story being made so close togther. Did the book fall into public domain?

As for the TV version, I see that Adam Baldwin and Steve Guttenberg are top billed, so don't expect an A-list cast. Rutger Hauer and Peter Weller are also in the cast. Nice to see Hauer actually getting some work lately. Now just so he doesn't start making a bunch of bad action movies like he did in the '80s.

Wow, I was even going to name Guttenberg for the Hackman role as a "joke" before settling on David Caruso - turns out Guttenberg's really in it!

"Life" (Art?) imitates the sickness that is my brain.

Thanks for the laughs fjimi!

My mistake; I thought we were discussing the Peterson version.

This must be one of those instances in which one party owns the rights to the book and the other owns the sequel rights. Usually in such cases some sort of agreement is reached (a la "2010"), but I guess Warner has decided to try and steal a bit o' Fox's thunder (or is it the other way around)?

In any event, I think I'll wait for the theatrical version.

Actually, it's just as likely mine. I assumed we were talking about the one they've been advertising on TV. Looking back over the messages, I see there's no reason to assume that.

Clarity, people! We need clarity!
