Since I know some of you have relatives and property in the area, so far it's relatively mild though the barometer is dropping like a rock. We were going to go north till they forecasted it would only be a Cat 1 or weak Cat 2, as the wife said, "We can do a category 1 standing on our head". 'Course now that we're bunkered down, they're saying it's going to be a Cat 2 or maybe 3. Naples is pretty much projected to be the landfall site, as long as it doesn't jog north we should be fine though it's likely to be a real interesting night.

We've had days to prepare, so as long as the roof and walls hold we should be fine for a week easy. I'll leave the computer on till the lightning rolls in!

Good luck to the other Florida modelers!

Thanks for the kind words guys. The weathers starting to pick up a bit, the wife and kids have all crashed from exhaustion. I'm going to use the quality alone time to throw the new Videodrome DVD on and see if Deborah Harry was as spectacular as I remember.

Things could be worse:)

I talked to my Dad tonight (Orange City), looks like the path is going through West Palm-Okeechobee, (My brothers, Step Mom, Cousins, etc...) Via Naples or Fort Meyers Let's hope it gets downgraded, people are losing their sense of humor over these things.

So far so good, the weather bands have all slipped just above or just below Naples so far, we're getting some rain and wind, but not even as much as you get in a heavy thunderstorm. Curfews on and the bridges are closed, so everyones will be staying where they are. We'll know how bad it's gonna be about 4 AM.

BTW, if you want to watch a really creepy movie on a dark and stormy night, you could do a lot worse than Videodrome.

OK, now it's a real storm! We're hanging in there, just listening to the wind punctuated by the occasional thump of something richoceting off the walls and ceiling. It's definately getting nasty, but could still be a whole lot worse!

Was lookin' at CNN a bit ago and from the coverage - O'Brien is in Naples! - Scott might not have power for a couple days, but the initial talk was that it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been, considering the winds. Here's hopin' that the worst damage to most of those folks was nerves being stretched taut!

I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale. I became accustomed to
hurricanes early in my life. I reached a point where my outlook was:

"If I lose everything, so what? It's just stuff. It can all be replaced.
Houses can be rebuilt."

Hurricanes are just wind and rain. They don't bother me.
Eight years ago, I drove through one to get to work.
I was one of the two cars on I-95! It was great!

I was born and raised in West Palm Beach. Had lots of Hurricanes and they never really bothered me either. That was until I was down there for Charley last year. We were in Orange city, visiting my Dad. You know, Orlando, where hurricanes never hit.
It was pandemonium and chaos. Why? There were millions of folks who were going through their first Hurricane and were panic stricken. It was as close to anarchy as I've ever seen and it was sickening. Worse yet, my Wife and son were with me and they were very scared by all of it.
Chances are, if you are in your house and you lose all your belongings, that ain't all you're gonna lose.
Lastly, it's been reported that only 10% of Residents from the Keys evacuated. Imagine if Wilma took a jog and leveled up (like Charley did). There'd be thousands of dead bodies floating in the Gulf and Atlantic.
Those folks don't worry much about Hurricanes either.

... because we just wouldn't turn away from sin. It's all predicted in The Bible. But if it's all predicted in The Bible, then God knew all along that we wouldn't turn away from sin. Because if we had all turned away from sin as we were being commanded to by God, then The Bible would have turned out to have been wrong and we wouldn't be in the end of days. And we all know that The Bible is the literal word of God and can't be wrong, so that means we were screwed from the start no matter what we did. So, anybody heard any good jokes lately?

Glad to be back, it's been a semi-rough week. As I stated in my last post, the eye of Wilma came ashore about 4 AM and was no big whoop, just a lot of wind and rain. Then the tail end came in and hit Naples pretty hard about 8 AM.

They were calling it a category 2-3. It was pretty impressive, the winds started roaring in the three figures in seconds, severing power and cable lines immediately, every tree in our courtyard was either ripped out of the ground or broken in half (I got some good photos I'll link later) REALLY loudly in the first five minutes. Then as the roof across from us literally lifted and folded like tin foil, our air conditioners were blown over because their straps holding them to the roof broke, then the wind REALLY started blowing! Needless to say it was impressive. It was semi-scary for about an hour, then as quickly as it came it was gone.

We've been thru this before,we were very well stocked, good thing too because we were without power for the next three days & water till last nite. Try to entertain a two year old and four year old without electricity for three days in this day and age, it ain't easy.

We just got drinkable water back last night, we still had a few gallons of drinking water later but it's the lowest we've ever run down our reserve.

We stayed in the first day, we did venture out to the mall the second for water and ice that didn't arrive. Apparently the relief supplys were staged in Palm Beach (or that's what a National Guard guy said), our scariest moment was arriving at the mall and finding out the water and ice weren't expected for at least three hours and that somebody had put the non-english speaking Mall rent-a-cops in charge of directing traffic, people were getting understandably upset as lines of traffic were directed into each other, we got out before it got really ugly, we found out later nothing ever did arrive despite the constant radio bulletins. And driving was hairy too without electricity and signals, you're supposed to treat all intersections like a four-way-stop, but there's always people that feel "special" and no need to stop.

Oh yeah, about the radio, very important without cable and power, in another incident that proves God does have a sense of humor, the only radio station we could pick up was Fox news. We had no choice but to listen to Rush, Laura Ingram, and that Svage doofus between news updates for the first four days of the hurricane.

The thing that saved everybody's bacon was the cold front that followed Wilma lowered the temp to the sixties, unlike Charlie last year where it was in the nineties afterward with no power. So even with no power we slept comfortably.

After the mall incident, we didn't leave the house much till power came back on. A lot of people here feel Naples got neglected because Miami suffered so much damage. I dunno, really. We didn't have anybody official come to our neighborhood for three days, though a church brought us ice the second. But we really didn't need anybody or anything. Hell, most of the stores were open the second and third day, we just bought stuff rather than stand in line for hours for water and ice.

Our in-laws, who also live here, neighborhood was really hit hard, though their place made it thru ok, my wifes Grandmother's house lost her lanai (which took away one wall of the home with it) and carport. But again, no one was hurt even slightly.

So, all in all we were pretty darn lucky. We took a hit in the wallet, but it could have been worse. Life has returned slowly to normal since last Monday as they fix the street signals. Most of the mess has been picked up, though almost everywhere you drive you see a missing fence, carports, signs, etc. We're REALLY happy to get cable back today, we raided the used DVD store before and after the storm, but still watched every recorded VHS tape in the house out of boredom! And we were pretty happy with our various hurricane kits, we were easily self-sufficent for 72 hours no sweat.

And I missed the board, besides the kids, you guys are ofthen the only adults I talk to daily! And thanks for the concern and the nice words, it's going to take me awhile to catch up on everything!

good to hear from ya Scott . glad no one was injured .
last year for Charlie my daughter and her friend went to a shelter and her mom ( my ex ) stayed home . well the brunt of the storm went over the shelter and was pretty scary for them while at mom's there was hardly a whimper . didn't even lose the cable TV . just shows how unpredictable things can be i guess .

We're probably going to bite the bullet and plunk down six bills for one also, you don't have to loose too many refridgerators and freezers of food till it's cost effective!

A lot of people are still without power, mostly south of us. I've heard they haven't even started on Everglades City yet.

Nobody appreciates electricity as much as someone who's gone a few days without it!

You are so right,Scott. When Ivan came through, it was 3 days with no power, it felt like a week. My brother has a generator, and when the power came on,just like on cue, when he was on the phone asking if we had power, his ran of gas. Weird. Of course, with an ice storm many years ago, it was a week.
