I just wanted to let you know I raced my black Camaro at M10 (an all out GM shootout) in Stanton Michigan last Saturday.

I ended up running a new personal best and making the Quick 16 out of a couple hundered cars.

10.30 @ 131mph with a 1.42 60ft and still has more in it. Next year I'll hit the nines in it.

This is a full weight street car with A/C and nothing gutted from the car.

It's also a 6 speed car.

Here's a pic of me launching and still coming up and carrying the fronts.

From my figuring out that I did on a prgram I have it's around 675 to the wheels.

I'm acutally not going to remove anything from it as I want to dip into the high nines with a full weight car.

I won't be going to the track anymore this year so i'll have to wait till next year.

There's still more in it!

Won't you have to put a cage in it if you getdown into the nine's?

Tony,

Thant's haul'en the mail! And that with a full weight car! Wow! What is the stock rear gear on that year, and are you running that? And are you driving it as foot brake, or did you add line locks? Give us the inside scoop!

That's awesome! If I remember, you're N/A, but have nitrous, right? What rear end are you running to launch with a 6 speed on slicks with that much horsepower. Obviously, that stock 10 bolt couldn't handle 350 horsepower on slicks!

It's a 396 LT1 stroker small block that's built up with some juice.

It also has a built 6 speed transmission with a dual clutch setup along with a Moser 12 bolt, 33 spline axles and alot of suspension work done.

I could keep going and going on details.

I'm running 3:73 gears in the Moser 12 bolt and launch it at 5000 rpms and drop the clutch and then enjoy the ride. :)

I actually would've made the nine sec pass last weekend or pretty dang close but I ended up launching it harder and spun pretty bad then.

I went back around but the starting guy told me I couldn't run no more and they were on to me because I had no cage. I have everything else except a cage. I was done then for the day but still happy.

If you run anything faster than an 11.49 you need a cage. I'm going to put one in this winter along with some swingouts.

A cage is nice because it gives you a handy place to hang the fire extinguisher..... I had a 4 point in my 76 T/A and it also helped keep people from asking for a ride

I have a cage in my '69 Camaro and have been avoiding putting one in this car but it's time and plus I need to be safer.

Thanks Guys!

Nice job! I don't hang out at the track very much, so I haven't heard of a fully loaded car like that running in the nines. I thought you had to strip it down and switch out body parts to fiberglass or aluminum to be light enough for that.

If I would really gut the car i'd be in the mid to low 9 second range but I don't want to. It's taken me a lot of work, time and money and different combinations to get to the point of where it's at now.

You should check out GM High Tech magazine. It's all about GM fuel injected cars and check out the times in there. Plus my car was featured in there too:)

Take care,

Sweet car. I love that you left the 10-speed in there. You're my kind of guy. And that thing would make a good sleeper. I don't mean to sound like I know more than you or anything like that. (I don't.) I was wondering why you went with the 12 bolt. I know it's stronger than the 10 bolt and all that, but since you had Moser build a different one anyway, isn't the 9" lighter?

Tony,

I'm pretty sure we ran 9's up on Capital Ave., that one time. At least my neck felt like we had. That is one fast car and we didn't even kick in the juice. Jeff Koch was in the front seat and acted brave, but I'm sure he was scared. LOL

JUst wondering if you plan to add a chrome-moly cage to keep weight to a mininum? Sweet time son that car.

Hi Jeff,

How's it going? We were moving that day especially with you bigger guys in the car.:)

The good old days at PM and Capital Ave.:) Give me a call when you get a chance.

Hey Jimmy John I think you meant a 6 speed not 10 speed but as far as why I went with the 12 bolt instead of the 9 is because I wanted to keep the ABS and I couldn't do that with the 9 inch. This is a brand new housing with the tubes etc all built up stronger even from what the factory 12 bolts came. Throw in all the other internal goodies and you have a rearend that you can throw anything at, plus it takes less power to turn it rather than the ford nine inch rear end does.

This car definitely makes a good sleeper especially when I have the factory SS wheels on. When you hear it, it sounds great and cams really good but you wouldn't think it goes this fast by looking at it since it looks so stock.

Travis, i've been looking at cages and haven't decided yet with which one I will go with or build. I definitely want to keep the weight down and chrome-moly is in my mind but it's also a little more costly. Most likely I will end up with this since I really don't want to keep adding to the car like i've been doing.
Wolfe and BMR makes some nice cages for my car and also have the swing outs I want, so I can still take the kids for a ride. :)

Thanks!

10.30's on a ten speed would be awesome! I must have been thinking ahead to the ten bolt part. On the dirt, a lot of our cars get T-boned, and put on their lids. Swing out bars aren't even an option for us. Nobody would want them anyway. And that's only at 100mph or so. I can't imaging getting crossed up and T'ed at 150+. Swing out's are awesome for the street, but when it comes to safety, they're not nearly as cool. Plus, I'll bet the kids would much rather get to have the fun of climber over the cage to get in, than lose a father. I know which memory I would rather have when I grew up. Safety is not just for the guy in the car.

I'd be shifting forever with a 10 speed:lol: but seriously on the cage issue your right and for the street the swing outs are fine but for the track I really shouldn't use them. My blue car doesn't have them and I should go with that but i'm not out continuosly racing every weekend so I think I will still go with the swing outs for this car.

Thanks guys.

If I may ask, what have you done to the drive train too be able to launch at 5k? I'd be afraid of dropping my driveshaft.. My '71 is an original 4 speed and I've been considering putting that back in and try my hand. Buuuuuuuuuuuut, I'm afraid of tearing it up. I've only got a stock 10 bolt 10 1/2 ring gear and the U joints are lookin aweful small. The car's currently running 12.20's about about 108-109 with an auto.

Carrying the front wheels is wasted power, Grasshopper. Must learn how to keep car planted more evenly to translate power into forward momentum and lowered times. Old Chinese proverb say "rear axle must not be allowed to leverage car skyward" Calls for rear suspension mods.

Thats what my friend thought till he scrapped the rear bumper on the ground once. The downside is that he doesn't get his Mustang pictured in National Dragster anymore since he adjusted the suspension and put in a powerglide.

My GTO with a 4-speed stripped the spider gears in it's 10-bolt rear end but no drive shaft problems. Only drive shaft problem to develop was replacing bearings in the U-joint.

I made it in the Nat'l. Dragster one time, for winning the first annal Nat'l. Dragster Wally. What was really cool about that race was I had to race my father in the final round.. The very first time we'd faced each other in competition. I started in 1989, this didn't happen til 2002.
