View Full Version : Bad Dog slot car bodies
ParkRNDL 10-17-2005, 06:44 PM Dunno if this goes in Collecting or Customizing, but I figure any aftermarket or cottage industry body that fits a Tyco or Tomy or Aurora car is a custom body, so here it goes. Went to the Bob Beers show on LI this weekend, and in addition to all the dollar box crap and a few MM bodies that I always come home with, I picked up a Bad Dog Slot Cars 2005 Mustang body for my son, who loves the new Mustang. Now, I'm not a big magnet car fan, but I LOVE this thing. I put it on the chassis from the yellow Superbird out of the new Mattel set, and it looks PERFECT with the big rims and low-profile tires. If I didn't know better, I'd say that he had this wheel/tire setup in mind when he did the car. Check it out:

The fit/finish/quality of this thing is OUTSTANDING. Mattel would be proud to put a finished version of this car in a set. As a 2-piece kit, it's only 10 bucks. All I had to do was trim a little flash from the window frames and trim the mounting tabs for the black window piece. It'll look even better when it's detailed, but I dunno when I'll get around to that and I couldn't wait...

rodstrguy 10-17-2005, 07:44 PM Rick,
You are right, that does look like it was made for that wheel/tire set-up.. Cool even though it is a Ford...
22tall 10-17-2005, 10:20 PM Bruce is (was) a Tyco employee. His job? Designing wheels.
vaBcHRog 10-18-2005, 09:19 AM That looks like the Matchbox Prototype casting. Is the glass cast in?

ParkRNDL 10-18-2005, 10:01 AM The glass and roof is all one separate piece, molded in black, that pops in over the top of a roof support piece that's molded into the body. The main body is molded in color.
I was wondering if it was based on a diecast and if so, which one. It looks too big to be the Hot Wheels one.

Montoya1 10-18-2005, 11:32 AM I love their stuff. I'm working with them on some stuff, at which point I'll also get some magnet car bodies and post pictures here.
sethndaddy 10-18-2005, 12:07 PM They are supposed to be re-doing all the tyco "S" cars, I wonder how its going, I emailed him from his website about a month ago and have'nt heard from him.
I know he reads here, so hopefully he will read this and let me know when those 34 Ford pickup trucks will be coming. ;)
Mike(^RacerX^) 10-18-2005, 01:57 PM Roger is right. It is based on the MB Mustang Concept.I just happen to have one sitting here on my desk and it matches the one in the pics dead on.
Very nice btw. Thanks for sharing the pics.
Mike
roadrner 10-19-2005, 09:03 AM That would look great on an AFX or XT chassis too. :) rr
vaBcHRog 10-19-2005, 11:16 AM Road the wheel base is too long :( I have been looking and the TYCO Pan chassis in its LWB config matches lots and lots of Diecast

roadrner 10-20-2005, 10:54 PM Looks great Rick. I would have laid down a base of bare metal foil on the rear end before I did up the taillights. Still looks good! If this keeps up, I'm gonna have to get back into collecting TYCO chassis too. rr
car guy 10-20-2005, 11:15 PM I was kind of dissapionted with the end result from both MB & HW (both Mattel) with this model, but it was redone in the HW line with a solid roof (not the plastic extension of both front & reat glass), looks so much better. Have you thought of painting the roof to match the body? Still looks nice though, good job!!
