View Full Version : Need Reliant parts, please
Babaganoosh 10-16-2005, 04:47 PM Hey everyone, I need your help, please!
I need a couple of Ertl Reliant parts. One is the upper part to the roll-bar pylon/support. It's the starboard side one.

I also need one of the clear shuttlebay parts that go on the inside of the aft hull piece. I'm not doing the hull thickness accurization so don't bother recommending it.
Scorpitat 10-16-2005, 07:03 PM Baba, just wondering.
Couldn't the shuttlebay part be fashioned out of some clear sheet styrene? I built that kits years back, and if I recall, the piece wasn't much more than a clear panel, with a bit of a rim to it.
Agreed, the rollbar part may be difficult to repro in sheet styrene, but clear might do for reproducing the shuttle part.
Just curious......don't think I'm being a smartass by suggesting.
Best of luck in your quest, dear modeler!
sincerely,
Scorp.
"Boldly GO!"
Babaganoosh 10-16-2005, 07:11 PM I don't have any scrap styrene and I can't get any. There are no hobby shops nearby.
Know what, though? You've given me an idea! I can graft a strip cut out of an old kit that I'm not going to get to and use that!
I'll try, anyway.
Babaganoosh 10-16-2005, 07:52 PM I replaced the shuttlebays with some straight styrene from the old TOS shuttle kit.
I just need the roll-bar piece now.
Scorpitat 10-17-2005, 03:38 PM Baba,
depending on the detail of the rollbar piece, I'd still try to find some sheet styrene around somewhere, and CAREFULLY heat it or bend over the edges to make the proper alignment for the replacement piece. ( I try to keep a small sheet of clear, and white on hand. I never know when it might come in handy for filling gaps, shims.......etc.... )
If I recall correctly, the rollbar part didn't have TOO much detail, besides the small panels on it. ( which could be cut out, and then graft another piece of styrene from behind, to simulate the indentation of the panel ) Of course, you'd have to cut out the one good panel you have and do the same kind of thing to match the fabricated one, to provide symmetry.
Just an idea, as I try to recall when I built my reliant eons back.
Anyways, if ya can't get it....just yell "Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!".
(smiling)
Best of luck to ya Baba......put some pics on if ya get it finished...would love to see her.
Sincerely,
Scorp

Oh, been there, done that. Believe me. It's an eBay winning and it didn't come with that part.
Thanks for the offer but I would really much rather have the part. I really suck at making my own parts that have even the tiniest amount of detail and since the part does have both extruded and embossed detail, I'm definitely going to need the part.
Robert Hargrave 10-18-2005, 08:18 AM I have a spare kit that I bought to replace the top of the saucer that was damaged by some solvents, get me an address and I'll ship you the parts.:-)
