I have a problem with file transfeering on my network. Neither one of my computers can access the "shared files" folder on the other computer. My printer works from both computers though and the internet is connected and working as well. But I just can't get access to the shared folders and can't tranfer files from one computer to another.

don't feel bad, your not the only one with that problem. i spent 45mins with tech service from compaq, they didn't know how to fix it either so they just hung up on me. if you figure out how to get it working please let me know.

what operating system are you using, if it's xp i figured it out! what you have to do is to use the network setup wizard and create a disk called netsetup.exe using the wizard. If you have already done this turn everything in the network on (computers, routers, modems, printers, ect.) and re-create another disk then use the new disk and run netsetup again.

if you have a firewall see if it's configured correctly, otherwise that can block you from being able to access your shared files.

ok guys, this is what I do for a living... you do not "need" to use the network wizard disk crap. Make sure all the pc's are members of the same workgroup (you can find that by right-clicking on My Computer, Properties, Computer Name). Then on each pc open my computer, right-click on Shared Documents, Sharing and enable simple file sharing on each machine. Now from one machine make sure by opening Mt Network Places, and clicking on View Workgroup Computers (on the left) make sure you can see all the other machines. If not then either Simple File Sharing is not enabled or the workgroup name has a typo. Now try dbl-clicking on one of the other machines, if you did everyhting right you can open their Shared Documents folder...of course you wont be able to copy files into that folder unless you checked the box marked Let Others Change My Files (or somehting like that) when you enabled File Sharing. try that and let me know.
