View Full Version : Need help with setup tips
stesh 10-13-2005, 07:12 PM I have a HD 700 I am running 2 silver springs with 30# oil and a green short spring with 50# oil on the center shock. I have 2 rear pinks and LF pink and RF black. And this is what the fast guys are running for tires. I need to free up the car in the turns. My cars are always tight. I would like some help with this problem? This is for a short flat track carpart
dave w 1 10-13-2005, 07:24 PM Are You Running Stock Or Mod
bologna 10-13-2005, 07:28 PM loop or ozite??? go off the wall try 2 gray rears or a gray lr black rr green lf and black or double blue rf... me im not a big fan of gas foam on carpet this is what some of the guys up my way are running.
play with diff side shock springs and center spring
move left rear in and right rear out to help the car turn around itself..
also try a softer spring in the right frount or heaver in the left
Fl Flash 10-13-2005, 08:09 PM Pinks are good for 19 turn, if your running stock go to grey rears and lf
stesh 10-13-2005, 09:11 PM dave w 1 - I am running stock
bologna - it is not a true ozite I think it is loop

What is the width of the infield and how wide are the lanes?
What t-plate are you running?
HPI center shock? If so, what piston?
What front end springs?
What is your weight on your left rear and left front?
Kenny@RAPTOR
pmsimkins 10-13-2005, 11:47 PM Without having more info one quick tip would be to try stiffer side springs. I'd jump up to golds and give that a try.
Porksalot4L 10-14-2005, 12:00 AM check your dual rate maybe you never have enough? dont go crazy with it though.
MURDOCKRC 10-14-2005, 12:07 AM On the 700 you dont want heavy suspension really.
TIRES FOR STOCK: RF Purple/Blue, LF gray, LR 2 white, RR 2 gray.
Front suspension: RF Red standard or progressive (depends on what kind of feel you want), LF Green standard or Prossive (again, go for the feel)
Front A-Arms: Middle on both sides
King pins: Shur lube #3 on both sides w/9110 king pins
T Plate: H Drive spring steel offset (helps a ton from center off)
Center shock: 80 oil #2 piston, Silva gold or silver spring (dont need as much spring with heavy oil and spring steel plates)
Side Shock: Tall ball studs on cross brace, standard on the top plate, 30 oil with 2 blue side springs, no more than 320 grams on left rear
Pod: offset
This is the basics of where I ran my 700s and they were very hard to catch on flat carpet. If you need any other help let me know MURDOCKRC@AOL.COM

BAR 26 10-14-2005, 03:46 PM I have a 0700 too, and i was wondering about the corner weights, if u have more LR whats it do? and if u have less LR whats it do? again whats it do when you add weight to LR??? take off weight??? thanks
I run flat carpet too, stock
stesh 10-14-2005, 06:44 PM Raptor MS – The width of the infield is 5’ and the lanes or 8’
The t-plate is med HPI center shock had number 3 piston
Front end springs LF is red and RF is Green
The weight I don’t know I don’t have scales but it is tweak left side heavy

Generally, when you add weight to the LR, you will have more drive
off the corners, which if you go to far, will translate to a 'push'.
If you take weight off the LR, you will have more weight on the RR,
which if you go to far the car will be 'loose'.
Not sure if that is what you wanted, but that's the reader's digest version...

Definitely start with his, since he's had the 700..... but I would recommend 50-60wt in the center with the #2 piston with alittle heavier spring than mentioned above. Make the left shock have more angle then the right shock, as far as tires go, I'm old school. I don't run 4 different tires on all the corners........
If you have a cell phone, you can call me from the track and I can give you some tips with your feedback...... 256.350.8287

stesh 10-14-2005, 11:34 PM I put a stuffer RF spring on the car and that seam to make it turn in better do you thing this is a good thing to try? Or does this make scence?
pmsimkins 10-14-2005, 11:37 PM That is generally the oppositie of what a stiffer RF spring will do. There might be other factors that are causing that behavior with the spring change. Hard to tell without seeing your car.
MURDOCKRC 10-15-2005, 08:46 PM Stesh, you do not want to lower the left shock compared to the right on the 700 will will gain nothing and the balance of the car will be wrong. However you can go with the center shock suggesting of Kenny's but I found the heavy oil to be the way to go because it helps the 700 continue with a smooth transition through out the whole corner. And Pmsimkins is correct. a stiffer RF spring should not help the car turn on flat track racing. There is another factor causing this and it could be tires. You can do as much or more for a cars performance with tire combo's. Tires are what make a car fast.............as well as all the other things included ofcourse.

I was wondering what the rear tires weight should be? Mine are 12.5 on the left and 7.5 no the right. Is this to much?
seaschorr 12-03-2005, 08:37 PM stesh- I run our cars pro2 & pro3 at 12.8 to 13. on the left 6.7-7.0 on the right. Robs cars are always fast start with his setup!!!
