RC
djrfan 11-01-2005, 01:48 PM what is a good tire combination on that track and also what would be a good starting point for a decent gear ratio I dont want to go up there blind. Any help would be apperciated
WIGMAN 11-01-2005, 06:13 PM Hey Jake, if you run Rubber tires you will be slow, we run foam on all trucks except for the novice guys.
Djrfan, what class do you plan on running?
If stock what Motor, epic stock or monster, it will make a big difference
Later, Joel
kingpin 11-01-2005, 06:33 PM Wigman.... Did you think that Jake would be in any other heat than Novice???
rowle1jt 11-01-2005, 06:42 PM When it comes to truck.... foams won't make me any faster. :D
WIGMAN 11-01-2005, 11:58 PM Oh Jake, you have been out of the truck game way too long, foams will give even you the master of the modified green machine another 3-5 laps, did I say that, sorry Jake, Had to
djrfan 11-02-2005, 05:02 AM 4 cell stock, monster stock, which motor would be better do you guys allow the quad magnet binary epic stock motor if so the binary epic motor would be my choice.
rowle1jt 11-02-2005, 08:17 AM master of the modified green machine another 3-5 laps Well atleast when I cheated I left the bushings in can, Kingpin doesn't even do that!
WIGMAN 11-02-2005, 06:09 PM Well atleast when I cheated I left the bushings in can, Kingpin doesn't even do that!
Yeah but you don't have the record for hittting the wall either, he needs the extra speed......LOL
Dale jr fan, I'll get back with you after this weekend, I don't use monsters anymore, I use the epic stockers, I would tell you know but my notes from last year must have gotten lost, either that or the dog ate them....LOL
The reason for the delay is that for our big oval race we set up the track differently that we do on our normal club race days, it is alot bigger so the gearing is going to be a little different.
Just over a week guys, see you then, Joel
djrfan 11-03-2005, 05:54 PM What is the run line ( how big is this race track).
WIGMAN 11-03-2005, 06:25 PM I won't know the run line till after this weekend when we build the track.
rowle1jt 11-04-2005, 08:37 AM Joel, will there be a center barrier for this race or not? I think you said it was oval-only right?
WIGMAN 11-04-2005, 04:41 PM There will be no center barrier. There will be ice in the corners though.
Later,Joel
Promatchracer 11-04-2005, 05:01 PM What is the name of the stuff Lansing got for ice
I think it it Marlite. About 1/8 inch thick.
djrfan 11-05-2005, 03:50 PM Mel what would be a good tire combination for the soo race in four cell stock what did ever one run last year. also what would be a good gear ratio to start with, my tires are 2.25 on the rear.
Any help would be greatly apperciated
Scott
WIGMAN 11-05-2005, 10:29 PM Just a reminder , if you have room to bring a table, please bring it, we do have tables but they are limited. Due to the track configuration I would also like to suggest if you have an extension cord or 2 bring them as well, we will be organizing the pits a little differently than years past due to the 205 foot long track we built yesterday, yes 205', you guys said go big, 85' long straights, tight corners, not hairpin tight but you better be able to roll throught the corners, track was very loose today, I'm sure that will change once we get a bunch of practice laps on it but be prepared.
See you all in a week, Joel
rowle1jt 11-05-2005, 11:45 PM 205'??? Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! :D
Promatchracer 11-07-2005, 01:32 AM Also we aren't allowing any air compressers plugged in side
We don't want to take any chance of tripping a breaker again
It has happened the last 2 years no matter where we have the compresser hoooked up
Sorry for any inconvience but we are trying to host the best possible race we can
You guys will be happy with the track layout it is real fast Joel and I ran some good laps in 4300 class but I know the time will be faster once a grove gets in there
5800 will be extremly competetive as this is a nice track to get them up to speed
You guys also talked about an unlimited class for truck here are the rules for it
Must have 4 ppl to enter and run
Entry wil be $5 and run for ribbons
Must have a gear box NO direct drives
6 cell packs as stated for the other classes
2.2 truck rims
Must have working suspension No Cheater pan cars
I would also suggest that if you run this you get some of your buddies to help marshall
this race because it could get really fast and I know I would rather have any extra or 2 ppl out there helping
Like I said just a suggestion
I can't wait to race with you guys again it is going to be a blast
I will be ordering in some TM tires so if some one needs something special LMK ASAP
If you need something else too LMK So I could get in in
Anybody for poker too LOL I can bring the chips and cards
5 more days till we meet again
Promatchracer 11-10-2005, 12:59 AM If anybody has some used or new Strikers or street treads that are for a trruck please bring them to the Soo race this weekend
I am in need of atleast 3 sets for Newbies that are jusy starting out
I also need some timed chargers too
George bring your newbie stuff you have for sale I will get soem stuff off of you
Thanks
WIGMAN 11-13-2005, 11:24 AM Well another one is in the books. 63 entries for a race in the U.P. in not too bad if you ask me. I'll post the results a little later on.
I'd like to thank all that showed up, there was some great racing action this weekend, the Hanson kid won again this time in 4300, The old dog proved to be top dog on the big oval in 5800, and you guys thought he was washed up.
Racing went pretty smooth once we got started most everybody was ready and on the stand on time.
Thanks to everyone again, I'll post the results in a little while.
Joel
WIGMAN 11-14-2005, 12:15 AM Here are the results from Saturdays racing action
First up was the Legend class, they ran split up 4 and 4 for qualifying then all eight in one main for all the bragging rights
Butch set TQ with the only 45 lap run for a legend doing it in 5:01.49
I wish I could give you a better descriptionn of what went on in the main but since I was running in the next rcae I was preparing my ride for battle, I do remember hearing George laugh a couple times and every time I looked up he was smiling ear to ear.
Here is how they finished.
1. Butch Bebee 45 laps 5:06.03
2. Scott Raymond 43 laps 5:01.13
3. Rick Radabaugh 43 laps 5:03.60
4. Doug McCallum 42 laps 5:03.10
5. Russell-Nator 42 laps 5:06.55
6. George Ferguson 41 laps 6:06.87
7. Jake Rowley 11 laps 1:18.79
8. Mark Cieciek 11 laps 1:19.19
Next up was 4300 pancar "B" Main
After the tone there was a hurendous crash in turn 1 and 2 and guess who came out last, me but by lap 2 I was 4th, up front Jim checked out on us and won by a lap Jake was tring to run him down when he mixed it up with somebody and dropped him to 4th which moved me up to 3rd and Douggie up to second, Jake would eventually run me down and pass me for 3rd with only about 25 seconds left in the race. Oh well I guess I wasn't too bad for my first time racing 4300.
Here was the finishing order for the "B" main
1. Jim Siefert 57 laps 5:00.96
2. Doug McCallum 56 Laps 5:00.16
3. Jake Rowley 55 laps 5:02.33
4. Joel Wiggins 54 laps 5:02.60
5. Rick Radabaugh laps 53 5:01.45
6. Casey Brake 35 laps 3:45.17
7. Chuck Manning 1 Laps 0:05.06
Next up the Big dogs in 4300. What a battle they had for TQ. Kiethj came out right off the bat and set the tone early, After round 1 he was top dog and everybody was saying where did that come from. Sparky would be the only one fast enough to take it away from him running the only 60 lapper by the 4300's in qualifying, he set TQ with 60 laps in 5:01.49
In the main Sparky got wacked or something as he would come to the stripe in 7th spot, Kieth took the high road around to lead the first lap and would hold on to it till that rotten Hanson kid caught him, staulked him, then finally made the pass going into turn 1 on lap 13, needless to say he would not be caught, the man to watch was Sparky who was coming throught the pack like a rocket, Although he wasn't fast enough to catch Jamie he was hunting Kieth for 2nd but ran out of time.
Here is how they finished.
1. Jamie Hanson 61 laps 5:03.40
2. Kieth Racknor 60 laps 5:01.51
3. John Sparks 60 laps 5:02.11
4. Jon Rohn 58 laps 5:01.12
5. Mel letts 58 laps 5:04.50
6. Mike Beach 57 laps 5:02.84
7. Greg dean 6 laps 0:37.42
8. Mark Cieciek 3 laps 0:14.17
Next up was Stock truck, we were kind of light in the truck class this year as we only had 3 entries. Frank and Rob battled pretty much all day for Tq with Frank coming out with TQ with 49 laps in 5:01.96
During the Main Frank and Rob would swap the lead back and forth several times making for a great race for the win.
Here are the results.
1. Frank Honson 49 laps 5:02.87
2. Bob McMurphy 49 laps 5:05.03
3. Virgil Honson 43 laps 5:06.76
Up next was our Novice truck class we had three little guys show up to run this year. Zach horton took TQ with 30 laps in 4:00.08, his brother Nick would fight radio problems all day while newcomer Austen did pretty good for his first time on carpet. In the Main Zach would jump pout to the lead and lap the other two by lap 13, Austen would fight back though and take the lead and the win in the last corner of the last lap. All three did very well in the main, here are the results.
1. Austen Sudemann 31 laps 4:00.91
2. Zach Horton 31 laps 4:01.38
3. Nick Horton 19 laps 3:43.92
We had 17 guys show up to run Stock Pancar, more than I expected, I only had trophies for "A" and "B" so I ran them in three different heats and then put 9 in the "A" and 8 in the "B", In Qualifying the Hanson kid was untouchable even though he had George, Casey, Rick and myself to deal with till the resort after round 2, Butch showed some muscle in Kieths car and Bob Hendry was fast as usual.
In the "B" main Scott Raymond would jump out to the lead only to have Casey come from dead last and take the lead on lap 17, Scott crashed on lap 22 and gacve second to Rick, Scott would recover though and pass Rick for second with about 15 seconds left. Here is how the "B" main in stock pancar finished.
1. Casey Brake 50 laps 5:01.60
2. Scott Raymond 49 laps 5:00.48
3. Rick Radabaugh 49 laps 5:02.24
4. D.J. Mansfield 49 laps 5:04.16
5. Kevin Ford 48 laps 5:06.15
6. George Ferguson 46 laps 5:02.66
7. Bob McMurphy 45 laps 5:03.11
8. Virgil Honson 7 laps 0:48.50
The "A Main would be interesting
Jamie and Bob got through the first corner good but there was a meley behind that Cavin got through 3rd and me in 4th I passed cavin for 4th on lap 10 the same lap Bob passed Jamie for the lead, yes you heard it right Bob passed Jamie for the lead, lap 22 would see a big pile up with Jamie and some one else with something coming loose on Jamies car , that gave me second spot and by this time Butch was on the move and up to 3rd again, it wouldn't take him long to blow by me for 2nd but he would have needed a 10 minute race to catch Bob, as he was long gone. Here is how we finished
1. Bob Hendry 54 laps 5:05.62
2. Butch Bebee 53 laps 5:05.91
3. Joel Wiggins 52 laps 5:01.80
4. Matt kivi 52 laps 5:03.88
5. Calvin Viernes 50 laps 5:03.37
6. Mark Cieciek 49 laps 4:50.55
7. Chuck Manning 49 laps 5:00.53
8. Jamie hanson 42 laps 5:02.16
9. Dan Atton 18 Laps 1:58.76
Next up was touring car stock and or 4300
Butch took TQ with a 56 lap run in 5:00.41
He and Frank would battle hard for TQ running very hard and very close all 3 rounds, in the Main Butch shot out front and looked to be gone then by lap 10 Frank ran him down, passed him and checked out.
here is how they finished
1. Frank Honson 56 laps 5:01.83
2. Butch Bebee 55 laps 5:02.56
3. D.J. Mansfield 52 laps 5:05.94
4. Russell-nator 43 laps 5:05.00
5. CVasey Brake 11 laps 1:05.81
Next up was the 5800 pancar class, wow were these guys flyin',The so called old dog, MR. Racknor would take TQ but you should have watched these guys in qualifying, at one time in the 3rd qualifyer there we the top 3 were tied for the lead at the 3 minute mark all on the same lap with the same amount of time expired, they were way fast and all three hooked up.
In the main Kieth would lead from start to finish but Deano was puttin' on the heat early on, Jon got a horrible start or he would have been right on their tails as all three were consistantly running the same lap times.
Here is how they finished but beware af how close it appears 1st and 2nd were, somebody slowed down to play with the other.......LOL
1. Kieth Racknor 50 laps 4:04.70
2. Greg Dean 50 laps 4:04.91
3. Jon Rohn 49 laps 4:01.38
4. Calvin viernes 23 laps 2:10.22
Last but not least was our Unlimited truck class, as long as it was an off-road truck with 4 working shocks and a tranny it was legal, what ever motor speedo combo you wanted to run you could run, and a 6 cell pack. Butch showed up with a big block Novak 5.5 system and was a rocket ship and set TQ at a 45 in 4:04.17
Butch was so fast he missed the loop once and still won the race, Frank was close with his Reedy Neo 1,but in this case close was slow compared to Butch, he was on fire, he ran 4 classes, TQ'ed 3 of them and was 2nd in the 4th, now that is a pretty good day.
Here is how these guys finished
1. Butch Bebee 45 laps 4:05.05
2. Frank Honson 43 laps 4:01.30
3. Big al 40 laps 4:02.36
4. Calvin Viernes 2 laps 0:13.90
Once again thanks to everyone for coming, I'd like to thank Sparky for all his help with the track, securing the pipes and making a place to hang the heat results. Also thanks go out to OLDGUY A.K.A. Jim the man behind the rotten hanson kid. Also Russel for all his help tearing the track down and rolling the carpet up.
Personally I have to thank Jamie again for his set-up and gearing advice, I always learn something new racing with him.
Later,Joel
oldguy 11-14-2005, 11:23 AM Joel, NICE JOB !!! By the way, us older guys need to stick together---I for one have never thought or believed that Keith was "washed up", or whatever. In fact I had predicted that Keith would cross the Big Mac this year (in Mel's bus) loaded for bear--and boy, he was all of that. The great racing between he and Deano that we witnessed in the qualifyers and in the main in the 5800 class was vintage Keith and Deano. That was real good stuff, and is something that Jamie and I have have been in awe of for as long as Jamie has been racing oval. And as an aside, that fast car that Keith drove in the 4300 class; that was his new Leading Edge "Lightning" car unless I wasn't paying close attention. Congrat's Keith (and Deano) and all the other podium guys--hope to see you all in Mt. Pleasant. Jim
