Does the The Speed Control really make a big difference. In stock? In 19t?
Is it better to put "resources" (money) into a high dollar speed controller or into the chassis? This is for those of us with limited "resources" Does it make a big difference at the local level? I know the more expensive ones have more features such as different profiles. How much difference do they make and is it really worth it?

i dont think its worht the price difference if you only plan on runnin stock and 19t. i personally like the Quantom Sport from LRP. its about 85 bucks and its as small as any of the top speedos. ive been just as fast with it as anything ive used.

I tell ya what for $149 you can't beat a Novak GTX.
Ran it in mod last night, profile 7 and stock today profile 1.. Still going a year strong..this little unit did not get soft.

I would say it all depends on what you are currently using. I went from a Novak 410-HPc to a LRP Quantum Competition and noticed a big difference. Of course the Novak was probably 6 years old and it was time for retirement. I guess it really depends on how serious you take your racing? I'm not terribly serious so I only upgrade my ESC every 6 years or so. ;)

I myself have never had a Quantum sport but my buddy did and it lasted 1 week. He put a Quantum 1 and it was a noticeable difference. I drove his car with the sport quantum in and that speedo felt to me like running a Quantum 1 in profile 1, which is the no rip higher dirve frequency profile.

i am not trying to sound like tekin is the best i dont want to start anything here..i have been racing a long time .i have seen a lot of speedo's go up in smoke, not want to program when ya want em to,the brakes burn out,the cases they are housed in come apart etc, etc,,
I will just say this and be on my way,,,get the tekin g-10,or g-11..or,,an old novak cyclone, these are real speedo's..that will stay with ya ...
oh and one other thing ..dont do what everyone else does ,ie..go out and buy the latest smallest, prettyest gadget that hits the market because everyone else has it.I fell for that one and just ended up blowing money for no reason .Unless of course ya just enjoy buying and spending ...happy racing !!!

Is a duratrax streak a decent race speed controller. It's cheap and won't burn up in 19t or stock racing. I have never had any problems with mine but will a speed controller change have any dramatic change on my speeds

eric,
I run for tekin now and I have the new G-11 and you will not be sorry if you run it. It is the same weight as the small esc with the Compositor on them. Tekin has all the Compositors built into the Speedo so you do have to run the external ones!

Depends on what level you really want to compete at, a low end may be fine for starting but may pose some limits if you move to another class. Then the mid priced or high end would more than meet any of your needs. I used a Futaba *80's) moving to a Novak T4 and other brands as my experience and level increased. Having all the high end fast stuff won't mean a thing, unless everything comes together and the person improves their driving and tuning skills.

Even with all the brands I used sometimes one particular brand feels better suited for a particular type of rc racing. For racing I prefer to start with the competition style ESC's and used the old or less expensive models for bashing around.

The Novak GTX is a great speedo like Eric said. And with it's 1 touch programming you don't need a phd to program it like some others (keyence). I give tekin credit, their old stuff was great. Although I havent tried any of their newer speedos. The GTX has won many world and national titles as well.

Not sure either Joe, he ran it one weekend, showed up the next week and was out in practice and it stuck wide open on him. He sent it back and they applied some credit towards the purchase of a Quantum 1 which was their high end unit at the time. The Q1 had way more punch he said.
