View Full Version : Wheel Dots apk power 10-09-2005, 07:38 PM Why do some Guys run Wheel Dots ovalrc 10-09-2005, 08:10 PM To look cool. Porksalot4L 10-09-2005, 08:27 PM yup to look cool thats all :) Milky 10-09-2005, 09:12 PM Whats a wheel dot? WhirlinGraphics 10-09-2005, 09:55 PM More room for sponsor logos? :freak: chad  erock1331 10-09-2005, 10:02 PM If your wheelwells are cut tight to the tires (not much gap) then They tighten up the car cause the air is pushed around them. If you have big wheelwells then they wont have any performance effect, they just look cool at that point. Bob Wright 10-09-2005, 11:33 PM They also help to keep the foam from chunking. G-Dizzle 10-10-2005, 10:30 AM not hitting stuff keeps foam from chunking. apk power 10-10-2005, 01:32 PM Thanks bsracing8 10-10-2005, 01:59 PM They also help to keep the foam from chunking. I never in 6 years of racing heard that? bsracing8 10-10-2005, 02:00 PM If your wheelwells are cut tight to the tires (not much gap) then They tighten up the car cause the air is pushed around them. Brandon Porksalot4L 10-10-2005, 03:30 PM brandon did you really think thats what it did? :) lol come on brotha ovalrc 10-10-2005, 04:52 PM The only advantage I ever had with using them, I would put one on the left front and that way I could see how much actual steering input I needed to make the turn. ROAR has outlawed them and so haven't some of the tracks in my area, too many other cars have been wrecked by a wheel dot coming off. Yes, Years ago if you loose a wheel dot as you were racing you were disqualified instantly and black flagged off the track. :( rickk5 10-10-2005, 07:48 PM bob w. is right they do for the most part eliminat 95% percent of tire chunking on foam tires, they are a visible aid, they look cool as h#$l,they are not illegal,if they fall off you will be disqualified, but if you run t.m. tires with the turbo caps you will never have one fall off, plus they also stiffen the wheel up a bit, but thats not an issue worth addressing:thumbsup: bsracing8 10-10-2005, 08:55 PM brandon did you really think thats what it did? :) lol come on brotha I deff new it was not for looks!!! I thought my car felt diff when i put them on! bologna 10-10-2005, 09:08 PM i run them when i can do to the ugly trc yellow rims. Matt Nothstein 10-10-2005, 10:31 PM Agreed w/ Brockster. I run them all the time even because with out dots, it looks ugly period! uberdub 10-10-2005, 10:34 PM Anybody have pisc of what they look like? Thanks! WhirlinGraphics 10-10-2005, 10:45 PM To me, there is a difference between wheel dots and wheel disks. Dots: Paper or vinyl stickers placed on the tire for aerodynamic benefit. Disks: Hard plastic, snaps into rims for tire protection and/or aero benefit. chad  rickster58 10-11-2005, 05:10 PM Why do some Guys run Wheel Dots check out the thread on Oval Events listed under K&N Stock a fied race. There's an interesting debate on wheel dots happening there. Rick<>< Carpet Assasin 10-11-2005, 07:33 PM Wheel dots have no effect on a pancar what so ever. I have run them all last year, never tightened up or loosened my car up. They are 100% used for: to look cool. Thats all. If you can see how much your wheel is turning in Mod just from looking at the dots then you have some awesome vision, considering you only have 20% dual rate to begin with? If you want some, let me know. I have vinyl wheel dots. I have never had one come off!!! apk power 10-11-2005, 11:28 PM I have a vinyl machine just seeing if I need to make some to run WhirlinGraphics 10-12-2005, 02:39 AM Wheel dots have no effect on a pancar what so ever. I have run them all last year, never tightened up or loosened my car up. Have you ever experimented with them to gain more speed at a Velodrome track? Just asking. chad  erock1331 10-12-2005, 09:17 AM Wheel dots have no effect on a pancar what so ever. Mario, talk to Ziggy and you'll think differently. Him and I discussed this on the phone not too long ago. Think about it, these cars are so light and move so fast that anytime you change anything with the aero its gonna be felt to some extent. If your wheelwells are cut to the tire or tightly around it with the dot on you kinda make the whole side of the body a wall, its pushing more air around the body. erock1331 10-12-2005, 09:25 AM Anybody have pisc of what they look like? Thanks! here's a pic, I use the paper/sticker type. You get 1000 of them (2 rolls of 500) from uline.com for about $24 shipped. All they are, are 2" inventory labels. Sad part is they dont stick very well. I typically use them for practice when I cut a new body to make sure outside of the wheel is not rubbing the body. If you wanna race with them get the ones cut from vinyl they stick 10 times better. Carpet Assasin makes some nice ones. I have ran his before. c barsalow 10-12-2005, 12:35 PM I used to run the u-line years ago until they outlawed them around here... Definitely tighten up a car with a tight fitting body.. Carpet Assasin 10-12-2005, 07:34 PM Eric, I guess your right. I suck at painting and cutting out bodies so I guess it never really mattered to me? My wheel wells are usually cut bigger so maybe thats why I never noticed it. Or maybe because running mod is so fast it doesnt really matter? Who knows. All in All.... They look cool on a car!! Eric, thanks for the plug! bsracing8 10-12-2005, 07:51 PM here's a pic, I use the paper/sticker type. You get 1000 of them (2 rolls of 500) from uline.com for about $24 shipped. How the F$%^ do you get cuts like that mine are a lil bigger but not much. how do you get them so round and perfect? I just place a tire on the out side of the body and trace it with a sharpie? Is there a better way? Brandon Al Spina Fan 10-12-2005, 09:37 PM Grab a glass that is about 1/8" to 1/4" larger in diameter than the race ready tires. Mount the body on a race ready car. Mark 3 spots on the outside of the body where the rear tires are....1 on the front edge, 1 on the back edge and 1 on the top. Make sure the car is resting on a flat surface so the pod is in the race ready location. Remove the body, lay the body on a flat surface, place the glass on the outside of the body with the 3 marks evenly spaced from the edge of the glass and use an exacto around the outside of the glass. might sound complicated but with a little practice you can go form a new body in the bag to a completely cut and mounted body in 30 - 45 minutes. Carpet Assasin 10-12-2005, 09:43 PM Olfa round cutter.... perfect wheel wells every time! Shhhhhhh!! LOL bsracing8 10-12-2005, 09:53 PM Olfa round cutter.... perfect wheel wells every time!
