View Full Version : Does "fake" JL exists ??
zanza 10-07-2005, 02:37 PM I was browsing a feedback page of a guy off eBay and just reading the bad one he received ...
http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=midshipslotcar
Scroll down to the end of the page and read what a unhappy buyer (thunderjetshotmail) told and reply with the seller...about that JL was confirming that it exists fake ones from China...
But don't JL cars been already produced in China?
Any infos?
WesJY 10-07-2005, 02:44 PM i do know that almost all brand name slot cars are made by china.. correct?
Wes
zanza 10-07-2005, 02:47 PM I thought so too....
That's why I was asking the question (after reading this "info") on the feedback page like said previously :)

Is the whole car counterfeit, or just the body (which looks like it's a limited edition piece)?

Don't know by the picture but it's a Lightnightfest which is limted as you said indeed
And I have read some of the other negative feedbacks on this page guy concerning fake Sony material...So he could really be a people selling fraud counterfeit
But I what really intrest me (us?) is if it could really exist fake JL or not ?
Body or chassis
And moreover how to determine?

And moreover how to determine?I guess I'm thinking that aside from a possible 'fake' body, if there is another company producing complete HO slot cars with a running chassis and selling them for a profit (I would assume) at $10/ea, why aren't we seeing lots more of them?
sethndaddy 10-07-2005, 03:46 PM it looks like a real car to me. that guy camges names often, he use to sell under the name winstore2004, I bought a few rare never released Chargers (x-traction Mopar solid red, no black top, and the white thunder was solid white)
When I asked if he worked at the plant he acted real stupid, then closed the account.
mking 10-07-2005, 04:07 PM thats pretty hilarious, a cheap knockoff of a cheap knockoff of a 70s era slot car made, originally made in singapore or hong kong.
it seems to me that rather being a knockoff, the items he sells are factory rejects or overruns. any production line will have them. ebay is full of test shots, overruns and rejects of original Aurora items from the 60s/70s, taken home by workers or dumpster divers. is it surprising that the same things happen in china today?
it would be interesting to know just what relationship he has with the factory. his address is in hong kong, which is a fair distance from the mainland where the factory is probalby located. not alot of manufacturing is acutally done in HK anymore, its all being moved inland. not everyone from HK has access to mainland factories, you have to have some sort of personal, family or business relationship.
i have bought several items from this guy, under several different names over the past couple of years. i always got what i bid on, and nothing i bought (misc XT parts, whole XT cars, or bodies) was obviously of inferior qulaiaty. might have been a blem or two, but nothing i cared about.
mking 10-07-2005, 04:21 PM the only logical explanation i can think of for this is that JL ordered 500 (or whatever#) of promo cars, and knows they recieved all 500. thunderjetshotmail might have been able to confirm from JL that all 500 were recieved, leading him to conclude that the car was a "knockoff". more likely, the factory actually made more than 500 of the green chrome yenkos, and somehow the guy from HK got a hold of an extra. while it may very well represent an unauthorized production of a limited quantity promo car, i doubt its "fake". i bet its from the same factory, probably of the same overall quality.
over runs like this are one of the big problems american and european companies have with china. they authorize a factory to make 50,000 pairs of shoes to sell for $70US. the factory ships them the 50,000 shoes. the production line is all set up to crank out another 50,000. so the factory makes another 50,000 identical shoes, all of the same quality, for sale in hong kong, china and other parts of asia. those shoes arent "fake", they are identical (i think the term for such products are grey market goods).
if you dont own the factory, you cant control how large a production run is. in the US, if your contract manufacturer makes surplus products of your design to sell elsewhere, you can sue the factory. sueing someone is china is not really effective. they are getting there, but have a long way to go.
btw, my wife worked in HK for 7 years for an import/export company that shopped mainland factories for products to export to US and european markets.
noddaz 10-07-2005, 08:53 PM Confirmed by JL car is a fake..Cheap Knockoff from China..Check for yourself
Now THAT is almost too funny to think about....:jest:
zanza 10-08-2005, 02:18 AM MKING, I think you got probably the right answer to this question....really interesting thanks

Good call... I think that the person who left the feedback misspoke but his point remains valid, it is just an 'unauthorized copy' but there isn't enough characters allowed in a feedback to completely list that :)
