View Full Version : Shining - The 25th Anniversary Special Edition
Zorro 10-01-2005, 06:17 PM Christiane Kubrick, in a special arrangement with Warner Brothers, has re-cut her husband's horror epic The Shining into what she calls " ... a somewhat lighter, more family friendly version. I've always felt that Stanley went too far with the blood and violence, and quite frankly, the real world is so horrid these days that I just wanted to soften the tone a bit. I feel certain that Stanley would approve." Asked to comment on the idea of re-editing what is probably the best known film version of his work, writer Stephen King had this to say; " I don't care what the b*tch does. I never liked the movie in the first place." Like Alien:The Director's Cut - the re-cut version of The Shining - now re-titled simply as Shining - will first be released theatrically and then later on DVD. The theatrical release date is November 11th. Here's a sneak preview of the trailer, which should start running in theaters next week.

Have you heard about the re-edited version of "Silence of the Lambs?" Now titled "Uncle Hannibal," it's about an eccentric, crusty-but-loveable genius who helps the police solve difficult cases — when he's not having old friends for dinner!
trevanian 10-01-2005, 09:24 PM Hearing this is scarier than anything in the movie. If she is losing it this bad, and Warner (which pretty much 99% reneged on their agreement to reissue 2001 in 2001) is working with her, then they might be getting her to sign over other stuff for doctoring. I don't want anyone touching 2001. Can you imagine somebody making it more 'audience friendly' by speed ramping all the space scenes and putting whoosh sounds on the ships?
bad bad bad
jheilman 10-01-2005, 09:27 PM Nice. The musical choices really sell the new tone.
heiki 10-02-2005, 11:24 AM Now if she was to redo 2001 with the missing/edited out scenes, that maybe ok.
beeblebrox 10-02-2005, 05:08 PM I'm trying to figure out a way to blame George Lucas for this. :freak:

Don't worry, trevanian. This is most definitely a joke.
scotpens 10-02-2005, 07:16 PM I assumed we all get that it's a put-on. A burlesque, a jape, a jest, a lampoon, a mockery, a parody, a satire, a send-up, a spoof, a takeoff.
Don't we?
trevanian 10-02-2005, 07:32 PM That's what I get for commenting without clicking on the link first, I guess. You folks scared the piss out of me with that one.
yamahog 10-02-2005, 10:05 PM Great Stuff!

Isn't that what Kubrick did after the previews went poorly? I thought he cut those scenes because the reaction spooked him.
