I recently enherited my fathers old Craftsman snowblower equiped with a 5HP Techumseh HS50 engine. When servicing it I noticed that the air filter was missing. Can someone tell me what filter I need for this application. A cover goes over the carb assembly. I have attached pictures of the carb assembly with the cover off and with the cover on from the bottom.

well svtcanuk,I'm basicaly a lawnmower, trimmer, chain saw guy since I live in the south we have no use for snowblowers. But I did live in Iowa 4 awhile.
I had the same question when working at a repair shop.I'll tell you like they told me."an air filter is made to keep out dirt and trash,in the snow there is no dirt and trash so an air filter is not needed.

you know, come to think of it, i've never seen one with a air filter, though if you want one, i'm sure one of tecumsehs air filters would go on it, though the cover couldn't be put back on. edit on that one......the cover could be modified?

I'm in the south also but I have buddies up north and snow blowers are run without an air filter. As was mentioned, they don't need them and a filter would get soggy wet in just a few minutes.

Wow! I'm surprised to hear that they run without a filter, I suppose this one has for a long time since my father can't remember if it ever had one. Thanks for the info guys, I might try to modify things to fit one but if I do I will try to keep it under the cover so it can stay dry.
