I have been reading this forum and even looked through the repair guide. I am relatively new to repairing any type of engine so any help would be appreicated.

Snow blower #1: Would not run. Took apart the carb and cleaned it out. When reinstalled, it starts but in slow speed and is idleing rough, stuttering. I tried adjusting the idle mix screw but it has to be almost all the way in to keep the engine from dying (damaged screw?). Also when I try to increase the speed, it dies. What to try next? Also how do I adjust the governor so that when I increase the speed, the throttle moves properly?

Snow blower #2: Got this from my uncle who said the carb was rebuilt for him. Used it last winter and worked until gas started leaking and would not run. I opened up the carb and noticed that the fuel inlet valve (piece that hangs off the float) was not present. I replaced this and the bowl gasket (was damaged). It will start up and run at slow speed and sounds fine. When I increase the speed, the engine starts racing and at one point sparks came out the muffler. Any suggestions on this? Throttle bad?

Thank you for any suggestions.

#1: sounds like a bad adjustment screw, check the end of it for damage, does it have a high speed screw? it's either too lean or rich, dieing out, needs adjustment, 1.5 turns out from all the way in snug, then fine tune when hot. should throttle up with little to no lagging.
#2: make sure all the linkage is there, should be a spring that holds onto the governor, make sure thats there, what do you mean by racing though, up and down, or way past the set rpms? if its way past the set rpms, may be the governor needs adjustment, or the throttle isn't adjusted right, and when you go all the way up, does it?

#1 has a high speed screw that is 1.5 turns out but I can't open the throttle or set to high speed without it dying. Will a bad idle mix screw mess up the high speed also?

#2 has all the springs and linkages, when I go to a higher speed the throttle completely opens up and seems to go beyond the normal RPM's for the engine. It doesn't go up and down, it just sounds like a race car taking off. I also noticed that gas at one point was dripping out of the priming hole and I had it up in the high speed position but did not seem to leak when in slow speed. I also tried to adjust the float and maybe that helped.

#1: yep a bad one will, but make sure first before getting a new one, usually when they are overtightened when rebuilt or adjusted, they get messed up. also may still have a little of a clog.

#2: ok, so you go up all the way on the throttle control? or when its running in low, its alright, and when you pull up any bit it races? ok the float, make sure thats alright, and the needle is seating. i can't really remember, but i beleive a 11/16 drill bit should be used to adjust the float, not sure on tecumseh carbs. also make sure the float pin doesn't wobble, and is tight in there, moves in and out easy, but tight.
