My Reedy SPEC motor recently started working horribly, I took it out and noticed that when you turn the pinion it doesnt stop right when you let go, sort of like it freerolls for a second. And, It seems something is scraping inside, is my motor trashed?

How long has it been since you rebuilt the motor?
take a apart. Check the condition of the brushes. Have the com cut. Clean it and lube it before re-assembling it.
Go to the home page here and on the right side column you will see a link to RC101.
Read the motor care articles there.

Its normal for electric motors to have a camming type action when spinning by hand due to the magnets trying to align with the armature. Sounds like you just need to take it apart make sure the magnets are still in the can properly, sometimes small mettalic debri gets in there, clean it out, turn the comm, slap some new brushes in it and go again!
