It's in Ravenna, ohio

Freddi did you keep the looped carpet? did you fix any of the bumps/cracks in the floor?

One of the complaints of the old track was the bumps, and the carpet. This year I laid a sub fllor down, and it seems baby smooth. I also installed Ozite instead of carpet. So now we will implimet rules like ride height. This year should be bigger and more fun than years past. The track is 74 feet long by 24 feet wide. With the Road Rail system we will be able to change the road course each week. Until I dont think its fun anymore. The track and the on sight happy shop is in Ravenna, Ohio. Its between Cleveland and Akron. The web sight is www.Freddieshobbies.com then just click on the tuck to take you to the car side of things. Hope to see you there. And for the record I already know I cannot spell worth a darn, please over look it.

You better put in more than a few miles, might take you awhile to get the hang of coming all the way across a 10' lane to hit someone !!

Yeah to what Tom said ! I feel this year we may have more racers than a good day can handle. It might get to where we will run road course on one day and the oval on another. With Classic running on Saturday we may move the road to Friday nights or Sat. with Sunday being for the oval. But like everything, it's always subject to change. We will run everything on Sundays for now and lets see just what happens in the next month. It is a blast to race here, the atmosphere is different here, we are here to have a good time, and we do.

The track is 74 feet long by 24 feet wide.

Freddie, hey Eric here. Glad to see things are still going well at your place.
Rob actually quit the hobby, the last racing he did pretty much was at your place. I have been running alot less this past year. Trying to focus on the bigger races which means alot of travel and expenses...ugh
I rarely even make it to Classic as much as I would like to.

You mentioned the track was now 74' long by 24' wide.

What is the dimensions of the infield? and how wide are the lanes in the straights and in the turns?

Still using pipe for the turns or did you guys try "ice" as the inside barrier?

Any pics of the new track ?

Good call on getting ozite and a subfloor put it !!!!

I will try and round up some troops and come over.
My buddy Adam is always looking for a new track challenge.

Does the racing start this Sunday? or is it practice?
Might stop by and check out the new track. Cant race though got some things going on.

Later

Nice to here from you again Eric.

I heard your doing the modified thing these days that in itself is a costly change.

For startes about the track. We all know the carpet conformed to the inperfections of the floor. Yes we still raced and had a good time. Over last year I now get A LOT of pan cars. We also were getting 12-18, 1/12 scale road guys. I dont know if you remember what the road course consisted of but it was what it was.

This year I laid down a sub floor and then ozited it. I used vinyl 2 X 6 on end for the outside barriors. on the inside for the oval we are useing ice. with the road rails down the inside side. The oval is 10 foot wide everyware, which gives us about a 55 foot straight.

The road course now is now made up of the Road rail system. which should be here today. I have been waiting to take pictures until I got it all down. We should have an excilent road course program this year not to mention these Mini-Coopers look to be a blast.

The regular guys are coming here this weekend to pratice on Sunday The track is open when ever I am open. The first race will be Octorber 9th . I would be glad to have you stop by and tell me what you think.

Take care
Freddie

Freddie
Sounds good.

24' total width less 20' (10' each lane). So that means the infield is about 4' wide ??
I would assume the ice is wider than 4' though probably about 6' ?

Just trying to get a mental picture of what she looks like.

Sounds fun though

Ok so I don't know my own track. You had me second guessing myself for a min. its 28 feet wide. 8 feet in the middle. geezzzz not enough coffee this morning :)

erock1331
09-30-2005, 09:21 AM
Ah cool,
That sounds alot like the track Beaver PA had

It had an infield approx. 40ft. long by 8 ft.
Lanes were 11'

Tracks like that are real racey, and fun to drive on.
No time to think though, lol

Wish I could but I got a wedding out of town this weekend.

Quick question being new ozite will the traction compound ware off faster being there isn't any on the track ?

I wouldnt say it would wear off faster. With any new carpet there will be a break-in period. The track will be pretty green (loose) for a while. It takes time for the carpet to get matted down the right way. The more and more cars run the quicker a groove will start to build in from traction compound being laid down.

For instance Sandhills just put down new ozite. They are 4 laps off last years pace in all classes. It takes time. But after their Oval Masters race in Nov, no doubt their old track records will be broken. Track will be prime then.

If you havent done so already, One thing I would suggest is pick one tire traction compound and stick with it and enforce it. Post signs, make announcements if you have to. If some are running Paragon, some are running TQ Orange, some are Running Jack the Gripper, etc etc it can slow a track down as well and do funky things with the carpet.

In all honestly the black can smelly Paragon Ground Effects has the most grip and will help laptimes, but then you deal with the smell which turns alot of racers and spectators off. Classic banned this stuff 3 years ago when Jack the Gripper came out and we have been using odorless stuff sense.

TQ Orange and Jack The Gripper work but they do have less grip than paragon.
Paragon has their form of an odorless called Traction Action. Niftech has one too. They both still have a smell to them but nowhere near Paragon Ground Effects. They seem to have more grip than TQ and Jack.

Wish I had a backup car. Been running the same car since January due to lack of graphite. Its all beatup from the asphalt track.

As long as it don't mess up the carpet----Run it! The more cars the better to get some traction laid down.
