Does anyone know what the Disney VHS movies are worth?

I have all the original movies. All the ones dated, I think, before 1970.

There are 17 or 18.

I have being buying them for years (as they came out) but never opened them so they are still in the original shrinkwrapped packaging.

Any idea?

Thanks,

I don't think VHS existed before 1970. I remember seeing ads for the first humungous VCR decks around the mid to late 70's. They were the 3000 plus deals, home video was quite well after that, I recall my parents getting Airplane in the mid 80's becasue it was only $24.99.

As for Disney, the only video I've heard of being worth anything is the original Little Mermaid, something to do with the cover painting. ;)

Sorry, I meant the movies are all pre-70. Nothing after that.

If you use the "advanced search" feature on @bay, and click on "search completed only", you should be able to get at least an idea of their approximate worth.

I am not registered on eBay. It won't, at least the last time I tried, let non-registered users, search completed auctions.

I have that original issue of The Little Mermaid, and when I checked recently, it didn't seem to be going for very much. Seemed to be a glut of copies available at the time, for one thing.

Are there any of those you have that haven't yet come to DVD? Seems like other than Song of the South, there aren't any major titles from Disney that haven't seen at least a bare bones DVD release -- and that one would be a major release mainly because it has never come to home video at all in the US, not because of the movie itself (I want it mainly because it was the first movie I ever saw in a theater).

After Cinderella, I believe the next "Platinum Edition" DVD release will actually be The Little Mermaid.

I am just looking for an average price. A woman at work wants to buy them from me and I don't know what to ask her for. $20.00 each? More? Less?

Not that any of this has anything to do with the value of VHS Disney movies (sorry), but:

Oops! The next Platinum Edition release (in February) will be Lady and the Tramp, with The Little Mermaid following in October of next year. The rest of the tenative schedule currently stands as:

The Jungle Book
101 Dalmatians
Fantasia
Peter Pan
Pinocchio
Sleeping Beauty

I'm still waiting (not very patiently at all, mind you) for the Special Edition two-disc version of Lilo & Stitch that has been out for over a year in some countries.

James, a fairly cursory glance at a search of "completed items" at eBay suggests those tapes are selling for roughly between $6-$12, shipping included. Price varies with the title, of course. I think that unless you want to keep them for some reason other than value, giving her a price of $10 each would be fairly decent for both of you -- if you like the lady in question. If not ... then I'd use the word "rare" and the phrase "out of production forever" a lot, and go for $20. ;)

Thanks! Well I don't want to price gouge her so $10.00 each should be O.K.
I though they would, as many are not on DVD, be worth more, but I guess that's most of us here's lot in life to not have the things worth more.
