View Full Version : Flat Track Carpet Layout ?
McLin 09-19-2005, 08:09 AM I have a question for someone that has been a part of laying carpet before.
If you were going to layout 3 rools of 12 ft. wide ozite plus one roll 4 ft. wide, how would you do it? Lay them all out right through the corners with the seams just like they are? Or would you put one of the 12 ft. wide sections across the ends?
One way leaves the seams in the corner and the other puts one seam as you go in and one as you exit of the corner.

Maybe try and get ahold of Foister.
I heard that new World of Hobbies flat track in Cinnci is 2nd to none. John from what I hear helped with that setup.

barnz2 09-19-2005, 12:14 PM One thing to keep in mind is that carpet has a grain, in that it will standup one way and lay down the other. So if you decide to cover the corner with one piece be sure the grain runs the same way in both corners or else the corners will have every different handling characteristics.

wowracer1 09-19-2005, 05:27 PM Jack of all trades.....................
davepull 09-19-2005, 06:06 PM i have done this many times we always used 3 12 ft rolls the lenth of the track. if you want to add the 4 ft strip I would add it on to outside
12ft

12ft

12ft
------------------------
4ft
this way you have the least amoutn of seems and is the easyiest to do.
we always had to lay the track out every month so we just taped the seems together with wide duct tape.
also crc or fan carpet isn't directional. so it can be laid anyway.
rush&sonrc 09-19-2005, 06:28 PM the best way to do the seems is something called doublecutting where you overlap each run of carpet about 6 inches and cut them all at once so that your line matches the peice underneath. then you virtually have no seem
McLin 09-19-2005, 07:17 PM This is CRC so there is no grain like you say, it is the carpet that was used at the Birds last year so I think it would be wise to lay it how the did, we will have to roll it all out a look for the race line and match it up.
I had considered double cutting too, like you say NO seams.
What I would like to see happen is we get the floor ready and then have a Pro put it down. just too much good carpet to say ooooooops!
McLin 09-19-2005, 07:18 PM Hey Kenny, how about driving over and laying it for us.........I'll buy you lunch! LOL
Raptor_MS 09-19-2005, 10:16 PM i thought you were a dj??
I have retired from DJ'ing. It was always side-money. Now'a'days you need all you can get. Made good money during the years of doing it, quit before....but the money kept drawing me back in. Did the private parties, the clubs, the radio, and finally opened for "big names" (YingYangTwins). There is nothing left to do in Dj'ing for me, but to get in trouble and you can do alot of that in those places........

GILYHANTREE 09-20-2005, 01:32 AM the carpet tracks that kenny put down had no seams coming lose and we ran the same carpet about 4 to 5 years another thing i was wondering we burned the fuzz on carpet years ago why does nobody do it now that makes the track fast from the start not fill the bearings up with fuzz for months most new ozite i have been on lately car drives like krap when it is first laid down and takes like 3 or 4 months to get carpet laid down and running good
Raptor_MS 09-21-2005, 07:33 PM Looks like I be traveling to VA October 8th weekend to lay some rug.....
