Hi everyone. I am having problems with the magneto on my 8hp cratsman lawn tractor. If if stick a screw into the plug wire and turn over engine i get a major zap. however when hooking up the plug i get nothing. i have tried several plugs to no avail. Olny the plug wire and one red wire come off the magneto the red wire also has juice coming off of it i assume its for a kill switch. Thanks for any help

try it without the kill switch, either a switch is bad, or your not in it ( seat and clutch switch )

are you touching the part of the spark plug that you put the socket on to remove to a ground ? (laying it on the engine ? i would say the red wire is the one from the alternator (stator) it should have a odd looking plug on the end round with 2 longer sides on it on the closesest to the engine side should be close to the starter but kinda hard to say without a picture
