I though I would start a new thread, so we can help each other with setup or answer any questions about carpet racing at the track.

Thanks Hays Jr! I hope to be up there a bunch this fall. I'm just starting to checkout my carpet stuff to see what I all need. Do they have a full store up there in West Bend?

Lefthander has alot of the parts that you use the most right at the track.

What compounds should I start with for on the carpet?

What compounds should I start with for on the carpet?

For Cody just getting going I would pick up some of the BSR Spec Foams. Greens in back, green on left front and blue on the right front. These aren't ideal but they are cheap and are definately good enough for learning and will be perfectly fine for cup.

Another standard sort of stock set up would be white rears, a gray left front and a black right front. This will come out to be a fair amount more expensive though and the exotic foams aren't really necessary for him.

Personally I almost always run Dbl. Pink on the rears and LF and Dbl. Purple on the right front. This would not be the best setup for stock though as the natural rubber tires weigh more and have more drag.

Steve I would start with 3 whites and gray right front. If he dosen't like carpet you can sell them to any stock driver as that is what we use.

hey i started a thread a few days ago with the same title.. where did it go??? 3 whites and a gray right front is the way to go.. BSR tires as well.. the jacos are more expensive, and the rims break and the foam chunks..BSr is less prone to do it..

Thanks for tire info, Cody is running in the stock class, not cup. I think that once we get some practice under us he will be ok.

do not waste your money on spec tires.. whites and greys is what works..

Burbs, I understand, thanks. I will stick with the regular tires.

Mike,
If I said the sky was blue you'd correct me and say it was Aqua.

Cody is going to spend some time learning just as his dad will spend a little time learning carpet set-up. There is no need to spend extra money on tires during that time. They will just get burned up anyway. Save some money and learn on the cheaper tires and then buy the exotics when you have things figured out a bit.

Keep in mind that a good set-up and driver could easily win with the spec tires anyways.

why try an fight the setup if you have the wrong tires.. we all know tires are 80% of the setup.. if they are wrong from the start, it will be harder to get the car to work. greens and blues however cheaper, to wear alot faster.. plus the BSR blue as well as the jaco is way to hard for a right front.... I never corrected you.. Did i quote you?? No i did not.. Im telling him to get what the faster guys use from the start...

Ps the sky was blue today, but it had some white in it from the clouds...

Pat, burbs is right, trying to get a car to rurn with a blue on the rf would be about impossible. they typically durometer about 65, and have seen them higher. I understand what you are saying, but I think cody will do just fine. And if you guys need any tires we are willing to help out.

I know he'll do fine, wasn't implying anything else. There is a learning curve and that curve is longer than what set foam of tires lasts. Just trying to help them out and save them a little money. As I said the tire combo I mentioned is not but ideal, but they would surely get him around the track decently. Anyway there is also the possibility of running two spec greens or the spec siver or gold in front as well.

By the way if you do choose to run the exotics, 3 whites and a gray will hook up great but is not ideal in my opinion. Just depends how much you like buying new tires I suppose. What do I know though :p

This years tires..... (BSR) Black RF, White LF, Pearl White LR, White RR...... bling bling or 3 DBL pinks and a DBl Purple.

3 Dbl Pinks and Dbl Purple hooked up awesome every place I went last year. I have heard the natural tires are at a bit of a disadvantage to exotics in stock due to weight and rolling resistance, but I don't know for sure about that.

The nice thing about foam racing versus caps is that it isn't 80% tires as someone said before. There are probably 20+ combos that can be made to hook up well enough to win a local race.

In my opinion for West Bend I'd stick with that Black on the RF for better wear. If I ran stock.

Thanks for all the input. And I also thank you for your confidence in Cody's ability. I think we will be ok, The one thing that I have learned from you guys, is that you have to be able to devote alot of time to this hobby. Well with Cody being my only child, the more time I devote to the hobby means that I get to spend more time with my son. So what I'm getting at is that what ever it takes to get Cody to go fast and be able to run with the fast crowd, well I 'm willing to give 150%!!!!!! The short time that I've been involved with this hobby, I've had a blast!!!!!!!I just hope that I'll have many more years with this, that is being this close to my son.

P.S. You guys play nice.

Well, cap tire racing is over for the year. On to the carpet. Me and Cody had a great time this year racing with you all at Tri-clone. I hope we have many more years to come!!!! See you all on the carpet soon.

when using foam tires, should the left sides line up, or does the left rear stick out past the left fromt because the tire is wider? :freak:

haysreeling
09-19-2005, 06:42 PM
Steve,
If your going to run your car offset you will need a narrow left side hub. (I'm assuming you had a wide hub on for outdoors) I would probably just start with your car offset. Normally we will start with the left sides lined up and adjust from their.
Move LR out = will tighten the car up
Move LR In = will loosen the car up

the L4 will most likely not line up with the left front.. but get the left rear tire as close tot he pod plate as you can..99% of the guys, will dremel a spot into the grafite bottom plate so the tire can get in closer...

If an engineer tried to describe how he was going to build a city below sea level where New Orleans is to a group of investors they would laugh him out of town! So here we sit with a trillion $ problem which we will in all probability spend trying to rebuild and protect the same swimming pool!

Someone figured it out.

So do we have a roll-call for the classes this season?

Count me in for 19t at this point, and possible Brushless as well if things work right in 19t!

Has anyone tried the IB3800 vs. the GP3700? I heard that the 3700 had some more punch than the new 3800?

From the discussions i have heard, there is not going to be a 19 turn class.. the guys are sick of running 3 guys in 19 every week.. It looks like brushless and stock only.. well and cup.. Both Corey,Bill, andHays Jr. sais brushless was what they were running

Thge batteries all seem to run about the same.. No performance difference in either one... For example look at the results from the vegas race.. not a bad split across the board...

Hey Burbs-

According to "The Dude" brushless motors are G-A-Y!!! Does that mean whoever runs one also must be??
