I race on a banked carpet oval using a Hyperdrive 0700, and notice that the bulk of guys regardless of their choice of car, remove the left & right shocks and opt for a damper tube. Why is this? Another option is to use only the right shock without it's spring. (in other words use it as a damper) Any clarification on this would be appreciated. Any of you that run a three shock setup on a banked carpet that would be willing to share some setup info would be greatly appreciated also.

We all use shocks at Classic Hobbies - Stock, 19T and Mod
A good starting point is 30 or 35 wt with Associated Gold Side springs.
Stock can usually run a bit harder Reds and Coppers if your car is too hooked up.

Eric,
Do you feel that three shocks is significantly better? (how big is Classic)

I'll be honest I have never ran tubes, but with the talent level at Classic, if tubes were the faster way around the track everybody would be running them and that is not the case.
Sandhills is banked as well and I have never seen tubes there either.
I know at K&N tubes are common there. Maybe talk to Mark Zarelli (The Bat) on here, he should be able to help out with the difference between the 2. Because he runs at K&N and often comes to Classic to run big races as well.
Classic is 185-190' runline, banking is probably about 17 degrees or so in the straights and a bit more in the turns probably about 22 deg if I had to guess.

i have noticed most people that use tubes, dont like to do maintinance on side shocks, or dont understand them.. the tube is easier to use.. I think you can get both to work well, but if you go by what 99% of the racers in the country use, its side shocks.. to me that says there better..

98% of the cars use the tube @ K&N, I have also, but went faster with the shocks, the guy that has all 3 records;Mod-19T-Stk uses the tube...

For the most part burbs is right.Since i race weekly at K & N i'm not to keen on maintaining side shocks. Also as i've said before they haven't been proven to be faster at this particular track. I do run them in modified though.
And you can't compare K & N and Classic. Two totally different worlds. One big factor is that they don't allow paragon there which might be one of the reasons for having to run side shocks at Classic. MZ
