View Full Version : The Right Chassis ?
APE82 09-13-2005, 10:29 PM I Am Looking For A Competitive Chassis That Is Fairly Easy To Set Up. Some One Told Me That The Adrenaline Short Is A Good Choice. Can Anyone Give So Advice? I Have Run Street Spec For About 3 Years And Looking To Move Up. The Track Is A Fairly Long Flat Carpet. Thanks
Big Willy 09-13-2005, 10:51 PM If you want easy tunability combined with solid performance, try an Associated L4. It has a decent amount of tunability for the money. I wouldnt recommend buying something too advanced i.e. KSG, Hyperdrive, etc. until you get your feet wet so to say, with chassis tuning. If you do want to get something like a KSG or HD, find out who is running them where you race. Ask them for any tips or tricks to get it dialed in. Bring a notepad with you and write this stuff down. Most of these dudes are more than happy to help get you going. Check the threads out here to get more chassis info, as there are some great sources of information. Hope this helps!
You might want to check out Leading Edge. Their chassis kits use all Associated parts. I've been very happy with mine.
Z-Main Loser 09-14-2005, 12:22 AM Leading Edge would have to be the fastest chassis out that doesn't have a ton of adjustments. Other chassis have more adjustments and can be tuned to be faster but unless you know what you are doing you'll get lost quick with a lot of adjustments. The Edge can be put together and hit the track and be fast right away.
jflack 09-14-2005, 02:46 AM 05' OPC Maverick Oval chassis, Has been very fast everywhere I have ran it. You can't get much better! Plus, a chassis company that has Race winning setups post on their web page. And you have to take a look at the Power Pod, very trick. The results show how good the chassis is: 4 cell stock Norrca Paved oval National champion, 4 cell stock NC Norrca state oval champion and TQ and Win is 4 cell Stock and 19 turn at the great American R/C challenge. Winner, best chassis on the market.

APE82 09-14-2005, 09:10 AM Thank You All For All The Info. Our Season Does Not Start For About 2 Weeks So I Will Ask Around Then Thanks Again.

I would look at this chassis, before anyone else's. I know Jimmy personally, and his wins that he has gotten......he earned. When I say that I mean, he doesn't have the "ELITE" batteries, endless tire and motor supply. He is your average racer clockin' big wins.......His wins are straight chassis.

highroller 09-17-2005, 04:52 AM I've run nothing but the 10L series of cars, adding aftermarket items to make car more tuneable and competitive. While the costs of upgrade parts usually equalled or exceeded the cost of other kits the parts were normally readily available than the other manufacturers' parts. Even today I built a kit using the Silva chassis and some other items from other kits.
Just feel more at ease with Associated.
pmsimkins 09-17-2005, 09:10 AM Buy whatever car is popular at your track or get what your buddies run. Any of the cars can be competitive. The L4 is a notch below the rest on flat carpet but otherwise any of the cars will work. If you get something that others at your track have you'll always have set-up help at hand.
Also, for thsoe who have said the KSG is complicated, it is actually one of the simplest cars on the market and for flat carpet you can build it, set it down and it'll probably go around pretty good on your first try.
For capped racing the HD is always a good car and like the KSG there will generally always be someone with one of them at the track.
Also, you should consider buying used from someone you know is a decent racer at your track. There are always cars on the marktet.
patcollins 09-17-2005, 10:03 AM Hi
I am looking to get back into oval racing after about 15 years. I've noticed that everyone seems to think the Associated kits just aren't as good as the really small manufactures that to me seems like getting parts could be a problem. But it seems that the Associated oval guys are still doing pretty good with their car? Am I wrong here?
Having raced offroad for the last 15 years I wouldnt think of buying a car that has any less distribution than Losi or Associated.
And finally why have oval cars gotten so expensive? I remember buying a new 10L for $120.
GILYHANTREE 09-17-2005, 11:23 AM i would check out our raptor chassis it has all the adjustments and hyperdrive pro3 you can't go wrong their either
burbs 09-17-2005, 12:09 PM associated cars in the right hand are very very fast.. It all comes down to who is driving the car.. for the price associated is a great complete car.. good amount of hopups to strart.. The siva car is basically an L4 with some updates.. I think that car has proven itself..
the maverick is also a killer car... as well as the new pro 3, Ksg .. pretty much any higher end car out there is good..

The ASC car is one of the older cars on the market. Even the ASC guys are running the silva concepts chassis on the car. Many geometry and flex changes in the car to make it more competitive. Parts supply is a moot point when you go with the silva stuff for the L4 because it only shares the tray support and bumper. Just ask the guys what parts they break and get a couple.
Maverick ships parts same day if the order is recived before 2pm West coast, and you can call to talk to the guy that designed the car to get whatever help you need. Plus jakes site is bar none the most extensive with setup, building, and car info of any other mgf out there.
Anyone with enough skill can make a car go fast. More of what makes a good car these days a good car in the company, support, and drivers behind it.
