Yes I did it , I boguth another junk lot... ( i actually love them the kiddies stay away...) I do have a couple of questions. One I got it for 20 bucks shipped with two pit cases full of parts and some really bad bad bodies...( they are a horror story someof them.. made me weep.)..But I did get a running Mako Vette ( Tan that runs great.. has all its chrome. my question do they come with window pillars? I have seen pics of it both ways. I also got another body but somone gav eit a really bad paint job looks like testors model glue whats the most unobtrusive way of removing it? ( I ussualy use ELO to strip but never stripped a tjet before.. hit a few but never stripped one.)

Next question I got a piece that looks like it goes on top of nonmag chassis with a gear in it.. it covers all the gears not a sonic box or light hookup that I can see, not a vibrator plate either.. checked the chasiss pages and can not find any refrence to it. its old and has part number 2026-038 on it ( I think the eyes are old...lol)

Got a couple of recoverable tjet chassis and a few tyco's that run so definatly didn't loose any money on it, but a lot will get a spot in the junk yard for sure..

junk lots ROCK! Makos all came with roof pillars, but they are VERY thin and fragile. Good that it has its chrome... the rear bumper seems to be missing frequently. 3 of the 6 I've come across have been missing it.

To strip Tjets, I've had good luck with Spic 'N Span. In fact, I have a blue Tjet '63 Vette in a tub of S'nS on the kitchen counter as we speak. The Road Race Replicas site has a good page on stripping in their FAQs, that's where I got the S'nS idea. I've posted this pic a few times before, but here's an example of two prior S'nS resto jobs. The best part is if you go easy on the scrubbing/scraping, S'nS will leave the original detail paint.

I'll get some before/after pics of the Vette I'm doing when it's done...

My only thought on the gear plate cover is that some XLerator cars came with something kinda like that. I've only seen it in pictures, though... if I get a chance, I can hunt down or scan a pic and you can see if it looks familiar. hey, if you got any XLerator parts, they can make for cool Tjet conversions...

Hahahahahahahahaha. Actually, we had a friend staying with us a few weeks ago (wife's old college roommate) and I stripped a JL body with Pine-Sol. After a few hours of THAT sitting on the kitchen counter, she started saying it was giving her a headache...

Thanks for the advice and thanks for the before and after pics. I will do the same as I bring these cars back from the brink of a junk pile lol...I had a indy car in there too but somone has hacked the life out of it.. Sniff :( . I will set it aside for now and maybe someday I will get some talent and be able to restore it...LOL.. but I iwill chronicle the restore of the one painted Mako and the Mclearn suffering from the wide brush syndrome..lol..

As for the gear plate I noticed another junk lot has a complete chassis on it.

The chassis behind the busted up renault F1 car seems to have the same cover thingy..( New part name thingy). If this doesn't help I will take a pic of it when I start the amko later this weekend and post it up..
