...39 years ago, today. Star Trek premiered to American audiences.

I just finished watching the premiere episode, The Man Trap, again to commemorate the occasion.

Seems like yesterday.

Now I am feeling old! I was 7 years old, almost 8 when ST debuted.

Shoot, I was a few weeks shy of my 13th birthday! How's THAT for old?

I was fascinated by the show, all the characters, the gadgets and technical stuff that had to be absorbed a bit at a time. For the first few episodes, I thought the weapons were called "fazers!"

They were. Sounds the same, even spelled that way.

I do apologize but I thought the premiere episode was Where No Man Has Gone Before?

i remember thinking how cool it was that there was a show on that my mom wanted to watch that i liked too .
and it was a whole hour of Scifi with no cliffhanger eps .

I'm embarrased to admit that a) I was 21 years old and b) I missed the whole thing.

"Star Trek" just wasn't that big in England - I really didn't start watching it until re-runs in the late 60's - at least, I think I did. I mean, it was the 60's.

I was four and a half. I remember sitting on the floor watching the show and telling my mother, "This is my favorite show!"

I wasn't even a twinkle then - didn't pop out until June '68. And there's still nothing that can beat The Only Series. IMHO...
