To try to get an answer to one of the most important questions of your childhood . . . . Going back, maybe 40 years, maybe 30, maybe more, who would you have wanted to be trapped alone on the island with? Mary Ann? Or Ginger
:dude:

one of my favorite eps was when Mary Ann got to somehow thinking she was Ginger . ( that and the Japanese soldier one ) .

I wish I could have BOTH!! ... but given a choice I wouldn't want to be goated into doing everything myself.

Mary Ann is my choice.

Mary Ann any day of the week. Well, every day of the week would be preferable actually!!!!

Dawn Wells is STILL a knockout. I went for her short-shorts and bare middies over Ginger's slinky dresses every time. That said, the episode where Mary Ann thought she was Ginger and dressed up like her? I entered puberty that day. Good god, she was beautiful!

John and Phil - There's no arguing with short-shorts! There was an episode where Ginger dressed up like Mary Ann? Well now, I don't remember that one. Sounds veeeeery interesting!!

It's Mary Ann for me. Besides being more "energetic" in her activies, she can cook too!!! Tell me, where do you suppose I can put some of that banana cream for snacking?

Ginger, she's a knockout but a little too spoiled for me

I've personally found little difference between Dawn Wells and her character of Mary Ann. She is just as warm, sweet and charming (and beautiful!) in person as on the screen. She loves being Mary Ann because she is essentially playing herself. The only difference being that she really is as talented an actress and performer as Mary Ann wished she were.

Nothing pretentious about her. She's the real deal.

I was madly in love with Catwoman and Emma Peel long before I could even understood why I was so attracted to them!

...and she's very down to earth in real life too.

Nothing to even think about, Mary Ann. Just like in comp between Wilma and Betty...Betty would win!

Any day, any weather, any island, any position, it's Mary Ann.

Well, maybe if she'd lost about 40 pounds. . .
But John Goodman was born to play Fred Flintstone. He looks like Fred Flintstone! Is it possible they were separated at birth?

She was cute as Batgirl, but I prefer her as green-skinned Marta in the ST:TOS ep "Whom Gods Destroy." Great dancer!

Mary Ann...for a nice roll in the hay!

Dawn Wells actually went to the women's college right next door to my school. Didn't find that out until last year, amazingly enough...

Mary Anne is kicking Ginger's butt!

Come to think of it, I wouldn't have minded seeing that in real life, well twenty years ago anyway

I always thought the dad on WONDER YEARS was born to play Flintstone myself, but Goodman is a better call than Jim Belushi, who is the guy they kept announcing for years when FLINTSTONES was in development. I wonder if the current version of Belushi/Fred is Brian Dennehy/Skipper, which I've read a number of times in the last decade. Then again, I don't think I want a GILLIGAN'S ISLAND feature (like I have any say in the matter!)

As for Ginger/MA ... I've never met a straight guy who said Ginger yet. However, most women seem to THINK guys will pick Ginger, which I find very interesting, since Ginger seems like an old-fashioned late 1950s type of choice to me, and that suggests women's perceptions on this issue are a little out of sync with the times.

I just wish Dawn Wells had done more work in her prime. She turned down a Playboy offer in the last decade (!!??) because they didn't offer enough, but I think I'd rather remember her as she was in syndication, as one of the hottest girls on TV. Some folks thought Darren McGavin's late wife Kathie Browne was horsefaced, but she was another one who blew me away, on WINK OF AN EYE in Trek and especially on WILD WILD WEST as Burgess Meredith's daughter in the B&W earthquake machine episode -- her and Inger Stevens were very impressive. Julie Newmar was way way up there too, along with Lesley Ann Warren, whose stint on M:I probably triggered my adolescence (either that or Barbara Rhoades, the cleavage girl in SHAKIEST GUN IN THE WEST.)

But just to be contrary, I thought Tina Louise looked good in STEPFORD WIVES, about a decade after Gilligan started.

Some of us straight guys prefer redheads. Welll, some redheads anyway. I'd pick Agent Scully over both of 'em!

I've lain awake nights worried about the group dynamics on Gilligan's island. 3 eligible bachelors and only 2 eligible bachelorettes. I think sexual tension is what kept us watching.

Which leads us to wonder in a fight between the professor, Gilligan, and the skipper who would have won?

Personally, I always felt that Ginger should pair up with the Professor and Mary Ann with Gilligan. I was always counting on the Skipper to pull a mermaid out of the lagoon or something.

I have a defective gene that makes redheads irrestable to me.. as my ex-wife demonstrates! I'm not picky though, I'd take either one, or even better, both! Toss in Billie Jo, Bobbie Jo and Betty Jo from Petticoat Junction and I'll die a VERY happy man! Remember the town name? "Hooterville"... It doesn't get any better than that!

Well, let's not forget Dawn wasn't exactly a rocket scientist. Otherwise she wouldn't have let Gilligan pay her for his pot by check, and put her name and return address on the packages...

Ginger would have insisted on cash and conned the skipper into using his address

Hey: She was just doing a friend a favor. That she's trustworthy and trusting just makes it better.

Ginger would have insisted on cash and conned the skipper into using his address

And used Thurston to bankroll the scheme.

Frankly, I always wondered about Gilligan and the Skipper -- all that "little buddy" stuff, and their hammocks did seem awfully close together. . .Then again, did Gilligan eat Ginger?

Evidently Gilligan was a fan of Asian food, so I'd guess he ate ginger on a number of occasions.

Last saw Dawn Wells on Furniture to Go with Joe and Ed (who are even better live than on TV) a few years back. She certainly looked good enough to make me wish she was a plate of Kung Pao.
