Hey Don, we have 2 here in the Augusta area. 1 at our local onroad track which sports a huge off road track that is rarely used in a parks/recreation dept facility called Bayville Park. The dirt oval there is a sandy clay that takes hole shot or mini pin type tires and can get a little bumpy for purpose built dirt oval cars with the shorter shock stroke. But is is a blast with a buggy or truck with an EDM body.

The 2nd is a super nice clay oval that is super smooth and level. Heck the 4 wheel drive guys just sat their touring cars down and they were planted. Sprinters worked awsome as well. This is CJ's RC Speedway in Blythe, GA. Foams are the tires and you can groove them or not both will work.

Check out the Augusta RC Club home page for the info and pictures of both tracks. http://augusta.rc.freehomepage.com/index.html

Here is a picture of the clay oval at Mize's.

bruce,
thanks for the info, i will check out.
i have been out of the rc racing , since me and you talked at daytona at the race there.
i see you have gotten your tires goin and goin good,, congrates on that.
a few buddies of mine have gotten dirt cars to race in ocala fla, and they keep nagging me to get one,, since i ran dirt oval in the late 80s till the mid 90s,, so ill like to do it again,, and also thinking of dusting off the old pan car and do some more asphalt racing. might have to get me a new paint job so i can run some orange rims.

but yeah im checking into see if any other dirt oval tracks have came about or still running dirt oval around me ,, before i get me another dirt car. hate to buy one and then travel 5 hours to race it.

Good to hear from you Don. Hope the health issues are becoming a thing of the past. That track in Ocala looks like a nice one. The track in the picture holds something like a monthly show but is open for practice several weekends a month. I missed the first organized race but the lap times for 6-Cell 19-Turn were in the 6 second range. The EDM Record is 48 laps in 5:02. All the guys who made the race loved it.

See you soon

Now that track looks awesome. It has the be the one that Clifford Kline was telling me about. I sure hope dirt oval continues it's resurgence. I'd even work overtime for the gas money to drive up there for a few laps on that track. Yikes!

Dave I agree, that track looks great.
Maybe a few of us guys can get together one weekend and split the gas cost.

You guys get with me and tell me how many are coming and I'll clean out my garage and we can put in some sleeping bags and avoid the motel expenses. My wife might cook for everyone after they get through mowing the grass and pulling weeds. She's got about 2 acres to clean out behind the house, should be easy work after a day of racing!

We will be starting construction on a banked dirt oval here in Macon in a couple of weeks. We hope to run GT's, T4's and 4wd touring cars. We will follow the WDRA rules and we will have computer lap counting.

Don. Just a rumor as of now. No one seems to realize how much upkeep a raceable outdoor dirt oval requires. A lot of guys want to run on dirt but very few want to work on it. Been there done that and if it's for some one elses track I'm not interested in it.

Don, I honestly don't know yet. I would say bring rubber tires of any kind. I am doubtful foams will work at this time. We will be trying some chemical additives over the winter to try and stabilize the surface. Other than that the track is awesome! I got my electric sprinter today and I can't wait to run it. I know a lot of people are looking at starting with gas powered stadium trucks and we will see where we go from there.

Oh yeah I remember that, It made the yellow rears almost everyone was using into a two run pair of tires. Luckilly I had green and blues. Then I started running the caps and thats when we had the last big race there. With the caps and the hard track we put about 5 laps on the previous track records in 2wd Mod. I still have the caps too. Hard to believe that we ran those times with 6 or 7 cells and mod motors and now with the asphalt, With 4 cells and 19t motors, Almost 4 laps faster times are turned weekly. I still miss the dirt slinging days but like everything else in the past, They're just memories now.

Do you remeber when Greg had the idea to spray the track with wallpaper glue? The track stayed together good untill it got watered again then the glue stuck to the tires and made a horrible mess.
