If you've been following the HO Sprint Cars thread you would know I've been working up a new resin body for the Aurora Slimline Chassis.

Here's the first casting, it's painted as the Miracle Power Special as it was driven by Tommy Hinnershitz in the 1950's. I searched for as many pictures as I could find of the car, it was hard to decide if the stripes were blue or black, they looked blue in more pictures than they looked black so thats what I went with! I made the decals and numbers with microsoft word, they aren't perfect but pretty close.

Tommy Hinnershitz was like Steve Kinser of the 50's and won over 100 races, and 7 eastern sprint car championships between 1935 and 1960 The number 2 car was raced in 1954.

The model is a box stock Slimline Chassis, I had to widen the front axel a bit and added #4 brass cone washers for spacers to keep the tire from rubbing the front of the exhaust pipe and to add a bit of weight to the front end.

The body is mounted with posts and 2-56 screws, paint is Krylon Fusion and Testors model enamel, I made my own decals with SuperCal paper.

That is very unique. I like the work you put into it. BTW what's you opinion of that Krylon Fusion paint?? Haven't tried that one yet, but I hear it covers nearly any plastic ( and does a good job at it).

Hello SethnDaddy,

I'm not ready to sell them yet, but they will be complete, ready to paint, "Body kits" with the posts pre-drilled and tapped with 2-56 screws, and driver head.

Watch the slot car swap & sell thread, I'll post when a batch is ready!

Thanks for you interest!

Thanks joez870,
I only wish it still had a bit more of the look and feel of the original toy, but it just wouldn't fit anything... I chose the slimline chassis because the body could be narrow, set low, and have tall narrow tires. Without looking like the back end was jacked up!

I think it's good stuff... it doesn't require primer, bonds to plastic, and dries fast! it comes with the fanspray type valve, so it sprays just about like Duplicolor auto touch up paint.

The only bad thing is the limited choice of colors!

Very cool midget, Zig!
Creative idea to be able to visualize that toy to a slot, then carve it into one! It captures those old days real well, man. When Tommy was hot I bet the competitors would say it was the "schitz" to race against him!
I use all Krylon paints, and the standard Krylon(more color choices) adheres to resins, and all plastics slot bods are made out of just fine. I dont primer first, except to wet sand for scratches or minor irregularites, so most gets sanded back off. I always spray them white first, then go on with the paint scheme. Fusion is great paint too, but is formulated for hard to adhere plastics like those plastic lawn chairs and Fischer-Price kids toys (ABS I think its called?). Dont worry about using the "osha" Krylon either, as I've never had that fail unless the bods become "multiple peices" in a crash! Their Crystal Clear is also a great product, but spray light thin coats over waterslide decals as thick clear can diffuse them. I use mostly vinyl decals so I can spray fairly heavy coats of clear.
Oh yah- I like yer Aurora "concept sprinter" too! That is a great baseline for what might have been!

Keep em comin- Circle Track DAC

Zig,
Congrats on your masterpiece. The detail is incredible. Looking at the photos it appears to be a large mint condtion tin car. When you're ready to sell will you sell an unfinished version? Some of us may want to recreate the car driven by Lou Costello in Buck Privates Come Home? Does Zigs HO Racing Bodies have a web site? Please forgive me I'm new!

Thanks,DACSIGNS & bumpercar88

I've used Krylon Crystal Clear on my real sprint car wheels to help preserve the powder coating, didn't think about coating bodies with it... thought it would be too thick!

My body kits come ready to paint, I almost painted the first cast as Billy Coy's midget from the movie The Big Wheel, found a cool picture of the original movie poster, but decided to try to re-create a bit of Sprint Car Racing History instead!

I don't really have a web site, but do have a geo cities site...
