View Full Version : Illinois Oval Racers Talk
Sonny B 09-05-2005, 12:40 PM Carpet season is coming up soon lets make this the place to communicate with other Illinois racers and tracks.
Q. It seems like the brushless 4300 was growing strong at the end of last season. How many racers plan to run brushless this season?
Mark Saturday Oct. 29 on your calenders . Working with Allen in Springfield to host a big oval event. More details soon
MK Race 09-05-2005, 01:17 PM Hey Sonny, hopefully we don't have to be from Illinois, just race there, right.:)
Looks like 5-6 of us from Pontoon will be running brushless, maybe more.
The Pontoon track is offically closed as of right now, but there is a slim chance it will reopen. If it does open I will still race at Allen's on Sundays.
I think Allen needs to make the brushless class 4300 Novak only. I know there are other companies coming out with brushless, staying with the 4300 Novak will make things more consistant.
I hope the guys at AJ's will keep us informed on here too.
burbs 09-05-2005, 02:21 PM Remember guys, Aj's raceway in Dekalb has a new owner and a new name .They will be racing oval every other saturday during carpet season... According to what i heard, they will release the dates after the big Vegas race at the end of the month..
jake86 09-05-2005, 03:10 PM Hey Sonny, hopefully we don't have to be from Illinois, just race there, right.:)

Hey Mike your the only one that can't race there.:jest:
Sonny,
Keep us springfield guys up to date. We try and make it up.
Sonny B 09-05-2005, 03:16 PM Of course your welcome to comment Mr. Kelm. It all about those who race in Illinois you don’t have to be a resident.
I agree it would be best to stay with the Novak 4300. What do the rest of you think? I hope down the road we will have enough racers to add a 5800 class as well.
Hi Burbs. Thanks for the info I was not sure what AJ's/Intense was doing for oval this winter. Their web-site only shows on-road dates at this point.
MK Race 09-05-2005, 04:16 PM Why thank you Mr. Brown. Hope to do some racing with you this winter.
rcavenger 09-05-2005, 07:00 PM Sonny,
Nice thread...I was wondering what was going on w/ the track in DeKalb. I had heard Fridays, but maybe that has changed? Sounds like we are gaining alot of interest in brushless. I was wondering about the speedo/motors coming out soon. I also would think a '4300/ super sport speedo only' class would be good, but i wasn't sure how much the new novak GTB (?) would effect the speeds w/ the 4300 motors. and which tracks might allow that speedo. Maybe have a unlimitied brushless class at some point? Also, anyone heard anything about Bloomington as far as carpet oval racing goes?
P.S. seems like we may have a couple heats worth of brushless cars for Allen's. I am looking at only running brushless this winter, as long as there are enough other racers and tracks running that class. I will keep my brushed motor stuffed boxed up til i hear more....
CKappler 09-05-2005, 10:18 PM Mike is correct. Shane said on the IRP web site (actually on the forum) that there will be oval racing on Saturday's. Its looking like every other Saturday. But that schedule won't be set until the end of the month.
Can't wait to race oval more than 4 times a year :) :) :)

Joe Novak 09-06-2005, 11:35 AM Hey MK did Allen pick up that carpet from you guys? Looking forward to seeing the pancars running
MK Race 09-06-2005, 12:34 PM Pontoon can't decide what to do. Allen sounds like he will get new carpet either way, from us or brand new.
jake86 09-06-2005, 01:49 PM Pontoon can't decide what to do. Allen sounds like he will get new carpet either way, from us or brand new.
Hey Mike if Allen doesn't buy it and you guys want to sell it let me know and maybe we can work something out on buying it.
Jason
MK Race 09-06-2005, 04:55 PM Hey Jason, if you have Bob's e-mail ask him. He knows everything.
Sonny B 09-06-2005, 07:15 PM Hi Scott,
Sounds like Allen's will have a pretty good brushless turn out this season. I agree with specifying the motor (Novak 4300) but think we should leave the ESC open. I like the option of the smaller GBS or LRP speedos. However if they prove to have a performance advantage over the SS+ system then I would agree we should limit them. No sense for everybody to upgrade.
Hopefully we will hear of some testing results soon to let us know if there is a major performance difference.
MK Race 09-06-2005, 07:37 PM I agree, the speedo might not make much difference. Leave the motor at 4300.
MK Race 09-06-2005, 07:39 PM Hey I hear that Trackside isn't going to run any oval at all this winter. If they don't, I guess there won't be a Leftover Classic. How about either Allen's or AJ/Intense having it?
Sonny B 09-06-2005, 07:49 PM Have not talked with Scotty about the Leftover. I think the Cheeseland crew plans to run carpet at the Tri-clone this winter so they may want to move it up their.
I also e-mailed with Danny B yesterday and he was going to bring up the Leftover idea to the IROAR club in Vinton.
Intense may also be a good location if they run oval.
As of today look's like I'll be trying turn left and right in Cleveland that weekend. But I would still like to see the tradition of the Leftover continue.
burbs 09-06-2005, 09:39 PM id really like to see a raceday at the triclone carpet track over 40 guys.. this is an awesome tight fast track.. you boys would love it..
Sonny B 09-06-2005, 10:55 PM I agree the Tri-Clone carpet is a pretty fun track to race on. You guys should get together and try to build some sort of signature event.
Mark #10 09-07-2005, 10:35 AM I agree, if Trackside dosnt have the leftover, some other track, weather it be in WI, IL, or IA....needs to pick up that date. That would be one boring thanksgiving weekend without going racing
Sonny, I remember you saying something at the IROAR 2 day about a touring series in the Midwest.....anything more intrest in doing something like that?
-Mark
Sonny B 09-08-2005, 12:11 AM Mark it’s not going to happen this season. I was not able to put all the resources together to make it live up to my expectations. When it does though it will be worth the wait.
burbs 09-12-2005, 12:18 AM So what is going to be the rules for batteries this indoor season.. I know 3300's are become less the norm, and the gp 3700; and new ib 3800 seem to be selling well.. Cells to not get roar aproved until jan 1st.. so will there be an open battery rule until the cells are all aproved?? i sure hope so, there is 3 or so out there now
racen4 09-12-2005, 08:34 AM Hi Sonny
what is your plans for this winter as far as what class to run, will you be in the brushless or would there be enought to run 19t? just wondering where you will be. Im still kicking around the thought of running up at allens .
c ya
Randy Ramsey
MK Race 09-12-2005, 01:56 PM Hey Randy, if you buy the new SS Plus system, you can run brushless or 19t with the same speedo. That way you can race with Mr. Brown either way.:)
rickk5 09-12-2005, 02:19 PM YEAH RANDY, WHAT MIKE SAID:tongue:
Sonny B 09-12-2005, 07:34 PM Hi guys just talked with Allen.
Sounds like he will be getting new carpet for this season. Also going to look at the floor and see if it can be made a little smoother. Maybe we can have a volunteer work day of two and help him out.
He’s not yet sure of the opening date but it’s likely to be sometime in mid October. He has to harvest all that corn first.
Regarding battery rules 3700 and 3800mah pack will be allowed. Sounds like most of the tracks throughout the Midwest are going this direction.
Regarding the brushless class it will be restricted to the Novak 4300 motor but any speed control may be used. From the people I have talked with it’s likely the open ESC rule will be the same at the Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio tracks. I’ve also herd that AJ’s/Intense Raceway will be doing the same. The Vinton group is the only one that I know off that may have a restriction on ESC’s
Randy how have you been?
Sounds like brushless will be the big class this season. My plan is to run brushless 4300 at most club shows and open mod at the National events. I’ve also talked with a few guys in the area that would be interested in running a brushless 5800 class. This Seems to be a little quicker then 19T and a lot less hassle. I don’t want to divide the 4300 car count but I think their will be enough cars this should not be a problem.
rcavenger 09-12-2005, 09:31 PM any speedo, eh? hmmm...i was kicking around getting the new Novak speedo w/ a 5.5 for my dirt oval truck anyway :)
MK Race 09-12-2005, 11:38 PM Corn????? Did he move the farm to Iowa?:D
Everything sounds great to me.
Sonny B 09-17-2005, 09:07 AM Talked with Allen yesterday. New carpet is on the way from Calandra.
The track is going to be fast this year.
MK Race 09-17-2005, 11:44 AM Sonny, you got that right. That was all Allen's needed to be a top rate track.
Good hobby shop.
Good pits.
Good drivers stand.
Good food.
Good people running things.
Good people to race with.
Now good carpet.
Get the B/L ready.

MK Race 09-27-2005, 04:55 PM Hey Joe, you guys going to run any oval this season?
Sonny B 09-27-2005, 07:34 PM So is all the racing BL?

G-Dizzle the most popular classes in this area seem to be 4 cell stock or this year brushless 4300.
Intense up in Dekalb or Stout Field over in Indy are probably the two closest places that run 19T or Mod on a consistent basis.
Joe Novak 09-27-2005, 07:51 PM Gonna do alot of oval watching, got a new job and will be working 2 to 10 so it does'nt look good for any racing real soon
MK Race 09-27-2005, 10:27 PM Hey Sonny, has Allen talked any more about a race for October 29th?
G-Dizzle 09-28-2005, 10:32 AM Sonny- Thank you for the response.
What about that little bull-ring i noticed indoors at the same place they have the off-road track in Mahomet?
George
Will allen's or AJ's/Extreme be running on Oct. 8 & 15? I'm running Triclone, but would like to try something out before Oct. 22.
treecutter 09-28-2005, 04:17 PM hey mike how is everybuddy are you going to be racing at allen's on sundays this year ? and what class brushless or stock well we seeya soon ,tim :dude:
MK Race 09-28-2005, 04:39 PM Hey Tim, it looks like there will be at least 5-6 guys that will race a lot of Sundays at Allen's this year. We all have brushless and stock. Probably will run 4300 brushless.
See ya soon.
Sonny B 09-28-2005, 09:34 PM Sonny- Thank you for the response.

G - 4-cell stock is the popular class at Mahomet. John Cole the owner said he plans to try and make it a little bigger and wider this season ans add add a new sub-floor. If he does it the right way I would guess the run-line might be almost 100 feet with slight tri-oval shape.
Bloomington runs on Tuesday night it’s also about 100 foot run-line. Average turnout is 15 -20 cars. Last year most ran 4 cell stock. You may see some brushless this year.
Allens probably gets the best oval turnout at about 30 ovals cars and anothe 10 to 15 on-road. Run-line is about 130 and may be lengthened slightly this year. 4 cell stock and brushless will have the largest turnout. Probably see 19T at some of his bigger events. They race on Wednesday and Sunday but Oval may just be on Sunday this year. Not a final decision yet. If anyone has some feedback regarding race days post it here and I will relay to Allen or give him a call.
DiffBalls 09-29-2005, 09:10 AM .......
pmsimkins 10-02-2005, 11:59 PM Will allen's or AJ's/Extreme be running on Oct. 8 & 15? I'm running Triclone, but would like to try something out before Oct. 22.
Sully was saying that AJ's would be running on the 15th, but it'd be nice if someone could conform that.
