View Full Version : News about Washington, PA/Wheeling, WV
PanMan 09-05-2005, 07:22 AM Well, it's almost carpet season and it seems like there is a lot of news to report concerning the "brother" tracks of Aaron's Washington RC Raceway and Jim Fulton's Wheeling, WV track.
I spoke with Jim Fulton on Saturday night, 9-02. I was very surprised to hear that Jim will not be running his track this year. Jim told me that he planned on getting the track ready but found out that the owner of his building has run into financial difficulty. The property is under lock and key right now. Jim can get in but he certainly can't hold any races. That's a real shame.
So, Jim called Aaron and they're working on getting ready to race at the Washington Mall track. Hopefully, we'll be able to combine the Washington regulars and the racers from Wheeling. It would be a great turnout if everyone heads over to Washington.
At this point, Jim and Aaron would like to hear your opinion. There is the option of running Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon. Which would you prefer? Wheeling used to run on Saturday evening and Washington ran Sunday. Since there will be only one track this year, what is your preference? Jim and Aaron will be reading this thread and are very interested in your opinions. Please respond.
To make it easier, I'll post a poll with this thread.
I'll get the ball rolling - I'll race either day but I'd PREFER to race Saturday evening. That's my $.02.
Now let's hear from the rest of you. Carpet racing is just around the bend (so to speak)!
Thanks.
Kevin
Looking forward to another fun season of Oval Racing with you guys and hopefully be able to stay off the wall a few laps :) Oh did I mention I painted my Mini T BRIGHT YELLOW so I can watch the correct one :p. See you soon !
stesh 09-09-2005, 08:20 PM I would like to see them stay on sunday?
Stesh:
Cast your vote on the pole on the top of this thread
MIKE S. 09-11-2005, 12:19 AM If Washingtons track would run on Sunday, who runs on Saturday nites in this same area ?
I hope the shutting of fULTON'S track in Wheeling is short lived.
I'm one of the unlucky ones who raced there on a regular basis.
Mike S
jsrocket13 09-11-2005, 12:34 AM mike s your right mike m and i can only race on saturdays
mr traxxas 09-11-2005, 12:04 PM Kevin Thanks For The Info About What Was Going On At The Washington Track. I Posted A Vote For Saturday Nite Thats Much Better For Me And My Father. Thanks, Brian
penny 09-11-2005, 07:14 PM Would Raters Run On Sunday, Valley Raceway Is Running On Sat. Nights
Topstrap 09-11-2005, 10:10 PM We may not race both tracks every weekend but if you competed against the guys from Fairmont for saturday racing you may lose some of them... Sunday afternoon be nice if it's not started too late so everyone could get home at a decent time. Then we could do both if we needed a big racing fix on a weekend.
Dennis
Any idea when Washington will be starting? I can live with either day. However,
I did vote for Saturday night.
k4mike 09-12-2005, 07:25 PM I'd also like to see saturday nights. Sunday racing tends to take the whole day up. Either way, I would still like to see fultons open back up.
Mike M.
Whats up with Chuck D ? Haven't seen him on here ?
erock1331 09-14-2005, 08:27 AM Bummer about Fulton's.
That was the first track I ever raced on back when I was 9yrs old and home track for about 7 years. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago. Wow how time flies.
Anybody remember the tiny bullring track he had above his old shop. Those were the days. The infield was a 2 x 4" peice of wood, lol
Good times, hard on cars though, haha
MIKE S. 09-14-2005, 01:10 PM I remember that little bull ring.
I ran in a 7-cell mod. motor class there and a 6-cell gearbox class there.
WICKED FAST!!! (I also remember buying alot of parts.)
The best part about that track was the pit are.
Try to imagine 30 to 40 guys trying to pit in a room that was about 12'x14'!
You were elbow to elbow.
Mike
erock1331 09-14-2005, 01:42 PM Mike S.

I think I remember a Mike that had a com lathe which we all thought was amazing back then, LOL
Eric Hutkay
jsrocket13 09-14-2005, 05:53 PM its mike smith you gona come out to play this year i hope so and eric hope you come down sometime to

MIKE S. 09-14-2005, 08:22 PM Jimmy, I thought you moved out of the area.
Do you still run rc?
I plan on running alot this winter.
Looks like I'll be running up in Washington and Zanesville.
I might try Fairmont, I ran there about 12 years ago.
Back then the track I attended was in the rear of an auto parts store. (dirt oval)
Can someone give me some info. on the track in Fairmont?
Do they have a web site?
Are there any nice carpet oval tracks in the Pittsburgh area?
Mike S.
MIKE S. 09-14-2005, 08:28 PM Eric,
I didn't have a comm lathe back then.
There were 3 other guys there at that time that were named Mike also.
The last winter that Jim Fulton raced above the hobby shop was the 1-st. year that I started racing.
Mike S.
stesh 09-14-2005, 10:19 PM Mike S. the track at fairmont thread is Valley Raceway and Hobbies Fairmont WV - you can get all the infro there.
jsrocket13 09-14-2005, 10:33 PM mike and eric just bought 2 new cars stepping out of the full size dirt late model for awhile and mike still livin in moundsville
k4mike 09-15-2005, 12:15 PM Eric,
cool to hear from you again. I'm new to this forum so I haven't talked to some of you guys in a while. I had totally forgotten about Jim's old bullring. I think 1990 or 89 was the last year they ran it before the new track. We ran a grasshopper back then. It doesnt seem possible that my daughter is almost as old now as when I started. lol. But even with a small pits and smaller track those were some of the best times. Even when we used to run Lafferty and Lloydsville. Hopefully everything will work out with Jims track, but either way I plan on racing this season. And where is Chuck?
Mike Moore
Stech have you been running out Jack's lately? My saturdays have been so messed up haven't had the time to make it out. Looking forward to seeing you and the rest of the WV guys at Arron's either Sat. or Sunday.
erock1331 09-15-2005, 09:00 PM Mike Moore,
You were the one with the com lathe back then right or a dyno. i just remember this guy named Mike, black hair, that always had the high tech stuff, ,lol.
If any of you guys get a chance, come run up at classic hobbies in akron.
190' banked track. Fast and Furious action. We get pretty good turnouts for the winter season, average about 45 cars per week.
Busch, Stock, 19T, Mod racing weekly

JSRocket13 have you had a chance to talk to Jim yet ?
k4mike 09-22-2005, 10:31 AM Gene,
I stopped in with Paul Hill on Monday and he said no news yet. However he did say (with a smile I might add) that no news is good news at this point. I'm going down on my lunchbreak today and will follow up.
Mike Moore

youngin11 09-25-2005, 09:50 AM hey guys, sat would be better for me since it takes me about an hour to get there. it feels like im there the whole day if we do it on sundays. plus the steelers games are on sundays. once they figure out what is goin on with fultons track then ill make my decision on which track im goin to go to. but until then i guess everyone is lost also. if anyone hears nething let us know.
k4mike 09-27-2005, 03:41 PM Bad news fellas,
I talked to Jim today and the track is a no go. They are going to start racing at Washington on Sunday, Oct. 9. It appears that it will be Sunday racing this season. Jim did hope that possibly somebody else may buy the building and we could still race, but as for now its not possible. I for one will be there on the 9th and hope to see everybody from Wheeling and Washington there. Jim also wanted to see if anyone would be interested in a brushless motor class with spec batteries. If so let him know or post it here.
Mike Moore
PanMan 09-27-2005, 07:18 PM Mike,
Thanks for the update.
So the first day of racing will be Sunday, October 9. Doors open at 10:00 am and racing at noon? That's the way it was last year. Please contact Jim and see if the times will be the same this year.
Kevin
k4mike 09-28-2005, 03:02 PM Kevin,
I just talked to Jim. And yes the times are still the same. It may be better to start a new thread for this but it would be nice if we could find out who all would be coming out next sunday.
Mike Moore
PanMan 09-28-2005, 07:14 PM I PLAN on being there on the 9th. I never say I'll definitely be there because things come up. As it now stands, count me in.
What are we going to run, guys and girls? Stock? Bomber? 19 turn? Trucks? Mini-T's?
I'll run stock and Bomber. I'll switch the Bomber chassis over to 19 turn if others would like to go that route.
Like Mike said above, let's hear from everyone who plans on coming.
Thanks!
Kevin
