I saw a screening of Serenity last night... wow. If you are already a Firefly fan, this movie delivers big time. Bigger, faster, harder, funnier, scarier, sadder - on all levels it extends the story from the tv show and goes beyond whatever expectations I had.
Like Carson Dyle, I'm not sure if people who have never seen the show will like the movie as much as fans... but even if you've never seen the show, it's a thrill packed sf film with enough quirks and nods to tradition to satisfy the more intelligent and "well traveled" filmgoer. The C57D even makes an appearance.... sorta.
If you like smart, funny cinema with lots of action - wow, not really a huge genre, I guess - you'll like this film. See it when it opens nationwide on Sept. 30th.

This is the only movie that I have been waiting for this year. I really love the series, since I got the DVDs when they came out. I hope it does really good, so we can see more movies, or a new series. Wouldn't it be funny, that a new series gets put on the SCI-FI Channel, when they turned it down, when the series got cancelled. NBC/Universal owns the SCI-FI Channel.

I was checking the SCI-FI channel's schedule online, and found on Sept. 27 they are going to have a 30 minute special Sci-Fi Inside: Serenity at 9 PM Central, and 12 AM.
Repeating Sept.29 12 AM, Sept. 30 2:30 PM and Oct. 1 at 4 PM Central.

Also, on Sept. 27 from 11 AM to 8 PM back to back episodes of FIREFLY. And, still showing on Fridays this and next month.

Sunday September 11th starts the ad blitz

Hopefully someone will be smart enough to include the tag "30,000 people paid to see it before it was even finished"

It's a wonderful wonderful film, at the very least it's a wonderful, shiny gift to the faithful, I only hope the virgins will learn to love it as much. We certainly won't be able to say Universal didn't try

There's a new trailer on the Apple Movie Trailer Site:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/serenity/trailer_2/

I notice we don't see anything of Book. Has his part been reduced to a cameo? Or do the marketing geniuses just think putting an older black man in the ads wouldn't sell tickets? (unless of course it's Morgan Freeman)

The advance screenings are over, the listings were going up at http://www.cantstopthesignal.com . They also were selling out before they were even posted by alert browncoats.

Some press screenings are being made open to the public, join the official forums at browncoats.serenitymovie.com

I don't believe that any more open to the public screenings are planned, you're just going to have to wait 2 weeks.

Book is in the movie about a grand total of five minutes, but it has nothing to do with marketing geniuses, because any meaningful scene with Book would contain major spoilers. He is still very important to the film, unfortunately unlike with a TV series it's almost impossible to juggle that many characters in a 2 hour film and give them a lot to do. Without being spoilery, Book has retired from the ship, and is running an orphanage. Kaylee also has a less than stellar amount of screen time, but I'm sure they're going to get their due WHEN the sequel comes.

The reason Book isn't in the movie much is because the actor already had prior comitments when the movie got the greenlight.
They worked him in as well as they could with what his schedule would allow.

Hopefully this movie will do well enough to bring about a sequel, then maybe we can delve into his story a bit more.

I never saw Firefly until it hit sci-fi recently and all I want is more...MORE I SAY!!! Damn what a fine show and I can't wait to see the movie.
I have no idea how the show could have only been 14 episodes, what damn channel was it on and why the hell was it cancelled? They should have their FCC license revoked.

FOX, the idiots!

oh why does that not surprise me!!
And after watching their news channel as well I would say "idiot" is a prerequisite for anyone working under the Fox name.
What a shame, Firefly is just too good, hell I just bought the season set before I have even seen that many ep's.

There was an unannounced screening in NYC just a couple weeks ago. Only 150 people showed up, prompting all sorts of panic at TrekBBS, and derision at the Wordforge forums. However, the point being that it was totally unadvertised, 150 people who just happened to be walking past the theater and saw the sign is a pretty damn good turnout.

I did not find out about our 2nd screening (press) until 3 days before it was going to happen and that was only because I am quite involved with the local Browncoats. Otherwise I would not haev know it was happening.

I have a four letter word to answer that question - FOX
(I know it is technically only 3 letters, but in my house it is a four letter word)
I don't even know why they ok'd it.
They did everything they could to kill it.
Friday night timeslot.
If I remember correctly, it was interupted a couple times because of baseball.
They showed the eps out of order, because they thought they new better. Started off with The Train Job. An ok ep, but not one of the best.
They didn't even show all the eps that were made.

I so hope the movie goes huge. If nothing else than to thumb their nose at FOX for killing what could have been a long running popular property.

Well I was right FOX should lose it's FCC license, cancelling Firefly is just the icing on the cake.

IStarted off with The Train Job. An ok ep, but not one of the best.

Although I agree with everything anyone's ever said about Fox and their treatment of "Firefly," I have to sort of agree with their choice of first episode.

"The Train Job" was a pretty good episode which did one thing really well - it showed the character of the show. This was a great episode to introduce the world to the crew of Serenity and the type of show that "Firefly" was.

Hey, it got me hooked.

It would still have made a lot more sense to start with the pilot episode - which also does a good job of getting people into the character of the show.

However, I wish the DVD set had included the original aired intro to "The Train Job" that covered the backstory that was hacked out by not showing the pilot.

Out of curiousity to those who've already seen a preview, did the theme song make it to the movie?

In the screenings I saw it did not make it in. I was hoping to hear it during the credits

Styrofoam Guy might not have sat through enough credits. The screening I saw had it at the very tail end, as an intrumental version.
The score for the film was very good and retained the feel of the music from the series.

For a good backstory of the crew, OUT OF GAS, was the best to me. I really like the look on Mal face when he first see the Firefly.

I finally was able to pick up the DVD of all of the TV episodes of FireFly and like it very much , but was curious about the new movie; is it a retelling of the pilot with a bigger budget etc. or does it fit in with the story arc of the original episodes?

TAY666

The movie is a continuation of the story from the TV series.
It is a stand alone movie. Someone doesn't even need to know about the TV series to 'get' the movie. Though I do understand there are several things that will mean a bit more to those of us who do know the TV series.
