Bill Auchterlonie 09-04-2005, 03:14 PM Next weekend most of the racers from your area are either going to a big race in Ohio or Delaware on Saturday for an Orl race. Its been slow everywhere this year as far as the outdoor racing. At my local track in Seaford Delaware we have only had enough people to race once since our State race in June. I've gone down there probably eight times only to turn arround and come home. If we dont have at least 12 people there we cant pay the hobby shop operation fee's (actually power and rent). I understand your frustration and concerns for what the future might hold for a track with no racers.
Hylander 09-22-2005, 03:35 PM Hello,
First time poster here and I apologize in advance for the thread hijack.
I live in Bethlehem, PA and came across this forum on Google when I was searching for Trains & Lanes, and RC racing in general. I'm not currently a racer, but I've been considering it lately. I've considered it several times in the past few years, but never followed through as something would come along to occupy my free time. When I was younger (I'm 35) I always had "toy" RC cars, and I use to race 1/24 and 1/32 slot cars. I also use to race in the Glen Region in the SCCA back in the early 90s (Spec Racer, Sports 2000). I've been around racing of some sort my whole life.
Anyways, I've been doing some research about getting involved in the hobby. I'm not 100% certain about it yet, but I'm trying to get some advice on which 'class' to go towards and any suggestions people may have. I love rally cars, but I know that isn't a real popular class and there aren't a whole lot of cars out there and people racing them. Obviously you can buy some nice cars like the TC3 and convert it, or the new Kyoshi 1/8 nitro Inferno GT rally (seems very hard to find in the US) or the discontinued Super Nitro Rally cars. But spending that kind of money to be racing by yourself or just toying around the yard isn't what I'm interested in.
I'm not a big fan of the trucks and buggies, although some of them are pretty nice. So I suppose that leaves me at touring cars and ovals as my primary choices. Then of course between nitro and electric. One of the benefits of going electric and oval would be indoor tracks during the winter months (which reading this thread indicates could be in danger of not happening, at least at Trains & Lanes). Although Nitro touring cars do look like they would be alot of fun to tinker with.
I apologize once again for the off-topic post in this forum, but I would appreciate any feedback and/or suggestions you may have particularly from those who race around the Lehigh Valley area.
captain11 09-22-2005, 07:09 PM Hylander if your interested about getting into racing I suggest you go to the track down in horsham. They should be starting racing indoors the next couple weeks. Touring cars on saturday and oval on fridays and sundays every other week. stop by and ask questions. I'm sure every body will be glad to help.
Mayhem 09-22-2005, 07:29 PM Ah T+L is back. I actually miss the old threads about the goings on at the track, they were most entertaining. Never been there, but the threads were a riot....
Hylander 09-22-2005, 08:40 PM I actually stopped by Trains & Lanes this evening and talked to Chris. He was telling me they are going to be turning the dirt road track into a dirt oval to race Custom Work Sprints and EDMs. They may be making a new dirt road track to the other side, but he wasn't sure about that or not.
Horsham would take me a little over an hour to get to, but I may take a ride down some weekend and check it out.
mcRacing 09-22-2005, 08:41 PM the captin is right even thoe he is like 80 years old
Mayhem next seasom u need to get out to the track its even more fun
