KirtC 09-08-2005, 01:01 PM With no "Jet" in sight the series was started off with a 15 car field. We where treated to some great hospitality and racing on the challenging 50 foot groove indoor oval. A great improvement from last month has the infiled area lined with plywood at track heigth, so no more "dropping" into the infield.
The heats where limited to 4 cars to improve racing and allolw ample time between rounds. Scott H. showed why he's spent soooo much time away from home (apparently no spaghetti dinners this week) and put his un-approved test sessions to work with the TQ run of 104 Laps in just over 5 minutes.
The mains where also 4 cars locked in with heads up starting and a 1 car bump-up.
For the first time in many years we had a driver, or actually a marshal, get hurt. It seems as though one needs to make sure they don't heap out of the track after marshalling, and plant their head into the garage door. :freak:
Bob G wins the Goody's Headache Powder award.
Mike W wins the "Where did he come from" award for his fabulous 4 th place qualifying run. As we joked, even a blind squirrel can still find a nut. :D
In the end it was Todd P in the now infamous White and Orange #4 pulling off the victory with laps on Scot H., Jim C, Mike W, and bump-up Tom D.
See Ya Next Week,,,,,,,,,,,,,, At The Lutes Bull Ring Track

Solartech 09-08-2005, 09:09 PM Hey Kurt for the last race at competion (big track) If enough 18th scale trucks show up can we race?
KirtC 09-08-2005, 09:19 PM Absolutley !! Three or more make a race, so come on down all you 1/18th scale guys & Girls!!
The Jet 09-09-2005, 12:10 AM Seems like "no sho" should be my nick name :( .
I was switched to 2nd shift untill next week without much notice.
104 laps  that sounds like a ball.
Oh well, maybe next time.
KirtC 09-09-2005, 12:44 PM No problem Yet, we'd love to see ya again that's all. Good to hear you're back working. LOL
As posted previously, three cars or trucks make a race, so Truck, Sportsman, Mini-Ts come on out to Competition or any race in the Series.
Kirt
RobRacer 09-09-2005, 06:09 PM I really like the bump-up program (And - not the bump-on my head). It gives the B-C-D main guys something to shoot for if they had problems qualifying.
Can we do it again at the Lutes track? IF we end up with a Sportsman class - they could bump to the Big Block main.
Besides - in Catskill - the only thing you can bump your head on is the clothesline!
- Bob
KirtC 09-10-2005, 07:45 AM Yes, Bump-ups will be used through-out the Quad Track Series for the exact reason you mentioned, Bob. As we don't race at these tracks regularly, no-one has the book on the set-up so it's a way to race into the show. I also like you're idea that the Sporsman can bump into the Big Block if they want.
As far as bunping you head in Catskill...... as George of the Jungle would say..........Watch out for that tree !!!!!!!!!!! it's looming in turn one :freak:
See Ya...........Monday.............At The Lutes Bull Ring Track

KirtC 09-12-2005, 12:15 PM Directions Clarrification
As I advised to all those who took maps to the Lutes Bull Ring, the track is located west of the Thruway and not east, as the star on the map indicates.
Sorry in advance for any confusion.
See Ya Later ....................... At The Track

KirtC 09-13-2005, 07:39 AM Greeted with some of the best weather of the season the band of 13 invaders, plus the track owner Bill L, where treated with a freshly groomed 70 foot Bull Ring; which disappointed no-one. With plenty of font end bite and 3.5 second lap times the action was fast a furious.
Heats where limited to 4 cars while the mains qualified 5 and bumped 1. Bob G. came back from a broken rear A-Arm in his second heat (Eric he owes you a new pair) loaded up a partially charged battery to take down the “C” Main. He was followed closely by the Dura-trax man Vic C, whoI believe was on the lead lap.
Jim C had to put it in the show with an impressive “B” Main win; where he and Mike W where within ½ a track of each other for all but the last 5 laps of the 90 lap event, when Mike got snagged by lapped traffic. Mind you, Mike only missed the “A” main by 0.1 seconds and Jim by 0.15 seconds.
The “A” main was then set with TQ Todd Putnam heading up Scott H, Chris L, Kirt C (with his car not Eric’s), Bill D, and bump-up Jim C. The main started as a wreck fest for the first 25 or so laps with every car but Kirt’s taking the point at some time. Things eventually calmed down for the remaining 75 laps. From memory the show ended with Todd P taking down the win, his second of the Series; and I think (as I left the disk home and need to double check) Jim C, Scott H, Chris L, Bill D., and Kirt C.
No docking of points this week for extra practice, but there was plenty of extra fun going around. I want to thank all those that made the trip, what with the price of gas and the lateness of the event and the extra travel time. It was good to see Billy again, just too bad he could fair better with his ride, but as he said; “Man am I rusty and are those guys &*%$(%^ fast!) You know Billy, always speaking politically incorrect. LOL
A special thanks to all those that loaned Billy motors, batteries and anything else for the night. Once again Billy made us feel right at home with Kathy’s home grilled dinners; coked to order.
Next week we almost double in size at the Pine Bowl on Monday 19 September. If we need a work night (or afternoon) I post and make some calls; but right now I think we’re OK. If we do have a work gathering by all means bring you car and burn through a battery or two. Pray for a little rain between now and Monday to set the freshly groomed back stretch, but I’m really looking forward to having a dry night at the Pine Bowl for the first time in 4 years!!!!
See Ya ……………… At The Track

Todd Putnam 09-13-2005, 11:51 AM Putnam's Perspective
-It's really impressive to think of all the dirt ovals that are actually in the immeadiate area, most of which are in people's yards:
-Pinebowl
-Willis'
-Johnson's
-Lute's
-Deerfields
-Proctors (I think collectively they have 2-3)
-The Greenhouse
-The one off 87, between 87 and Rte. 9 (friend of the Proctors)
-Competition
-Freeleys
Did I miss any?
-The Quad Track Series is probably the most fun I have dirt oval racing. I love the traveling series concept...
-Where has Sam Leary been???
-Where is Hot Lap Hollinger???
-It was good to see Bill Deerfield and Kirt C make the show on time, and not have to bump their way in. Deerfield didn't even have to use his "past champion's provisional"...(he won the A in 2002)
-Speaking of the Deerfield's, I'm impressed how quickly they became competitive after a long hiatus.
-I feel more welcome racing in people's yards, (Deerfileds, Lutes, Coonradts) than most of the big races I attend.
-Vic mananged to "jump" the infield in turn 3 in both qualifiers and the main...man, his car can not only catch air, but lands like a cat. Must be all of his motorcycle experience...
-Deerfield and Coonradt proved in qualifying, in order to finish first, first you must finish. Both really put in awesome drive to stick it in the show. I think Bill may have even got "bump-drafted" into the main during the second qualifier...:dude:
-Good to see Gimp racing w/ us on a Monday night...must not have gotten invited back to dinner...I told you to bring wine and dessert, ya dummy.
-It was also good to see Gimp apologize for all the carnage he caused in the main. see, it was all his fault...
-The last 3 A Main winners of the Lutes Bull Ring all pitted in the "Speed Shed"...hmmm...
-Bob Godgart drove an incredible C main, complete with patience, lifting and everything...no, really, I saw it myself!!! Could it be a result of the previous week's head injury?!? Just kidding Bob...you really drove well.
-It was good to see Lorrette back up front...
-Tom Fredette drove really well all night, and most probably missed it.
-I really thought Mike Watson was gonna make the A Main 2 weeks in a row, even if he was going to bump up. Luck wasn't on his side in the B. He has got his stuff together on short tracks, though...
-It's ironic that Gimp is running a Steve Paine paint job...get it? PAINe...heh heh
-You know your having a bad night at the Lutes Bull Ring when the marshalls have to pull your car out of the #21 about 6 times...and not Jim Calvery's #21, or Bill Lutes' #21, the #21 wooden carving in the infield...:freak:
-Speaking of infields, I guess if someone were to end up in the flower bed, it was fitting that it was Lutes...after all, they are his flowers.
-It was good to see Bill and Cathy again.
-Till next time...
KirtC 09-13-2005, 12:22 PM Another area track, the Barbers have one in their back yard. I've not seen it, but it was described as being somewhat into a side hill, "with a great run out of turn 2". Sounds like one heck of a bank!!
KirtC 09-13-2005, 01:03 PM Well, after a lunch time of searching both Hobbytalk and Dirtoval for the last 2 years data I've minded the following:
2004 Luts Bull Ring
Qual TQ Todd P 80 5:02.07
Race Todd P 100 6:42.82
From memory, this means everyone that ran the A main (including the bump-in Jim C) beat last years TQ run along with Mike W the second place finisher in the B !!! WOW !!
Billy said the track would be in good shape.
2004 Pine Bowl
Qual TQ Todd P 60 5:00.53
Race Todd P 75 6:17.21
I'll keep checking and incorporate the results from the last few July races.
See Ya ................... At The Track
Kirt
disruptor10 09-13-2005, 09:36 PM There is also a Track at Big Mike Johnsons house in the Malta area , they do battle on saturday nights
Todd Putnam 09-13-2005, 11:17 PM Dave: Yep, they are listed 3rd on the list...
I'm guessing the records will fall at the Pine Bowl... Look for a fast 62, (maybe 63?) to TQ, and 75 laps in about 6 minutes flat...
KingCobra 09-14-2005, 09:01 AM Phil,
Let Jr. or I know if you want to race 18th scale cars on the big track on 9/26. I can't guarrantee we can both make it, but I need to know before I change them over for carpet racing.
Thanx.
Al Sr. :p
Solartech 09-14-2005, 04:31 PM I will be there, I talked to Keith when we raced last and he said he would show too. Ed said he would not be able to make it. Call me at the shop if you would like so I know If you are going 382-0887 (solartech)
dalejr828 09-16-2005, 10:12 PM hey i deff. plan on being at the race this week. its at the pine bowl right?
KirtC 09-17-2005, 06:47 AM Yes Kyle, the week (the 19th) is at the Pine Bowl. If I where you, I'd rent that ride back from Louie and borrow some batteries from any of us; after all rumor has it that is was he and not Todd that set fast lap at the Team race a few weeks back (we're still checking the tape) LOL
Hope to see you.
Oh........By the way........In case you didn't remember.............We'll also have about 25 Boy Scouts and their leaders/Dads at the Pine Bowl on Monday night for there annual pilgramage. So be prepared for a tug on your arm and an inquiring question (or 2 or 4...) during your first heat. Just ask Chris L how distracting it is when you going for the track record!:drunk:
See Ya ............... Monday..............At My Track

Todd Putnam 09-17-2005, 07:48 PM ...With the Cup race at Loudon this weekend, it brings lots of Celebrity racers into the area. Look for an "Oval Legend" to grace us with his presence Monday night driving a Putnam House car...
I'll give you a hint: He's won in just about everything he's ever raced, and has beaten me in R/C more than I've beaten him...;)
The Jet 09-17-2005, 11:47 PM Hey Todd,
Since I live 2 minutes away from you and can't seem to make it down to see you, I thought I'd stop on down to Kirts Monday.
See you there,
Later, Bret
PS. I planned on going BEFORE the "celebrity" post ;)
Rcracer7 09-18-2005, 12:19 AM Wow! With all the hype surrounding this famed event it's looking more and more like I need to drive down after my last class on Monday....
Gas money anyone? lol
-Eric
Rcracer7 09-18-2005, 07:26 AM Eric
If the initials are TS, gas money's on me !!
Pa
Rcracer7 09-18-2005, 01:04 PM How in the world did you manage a post under my name?
Todd Putnam 09-18-2005, 02:44 PM Initials are MM, and he's considered an old man in the racing world...but he's still a threat and can beat the young guns on any given day...
He also has a son that races, too...:dude:
Known to wheel a Taurus, too...
Rcracer7 09-18-2005, 03:34 PM Alright, I think I have to make the drive. lol Should be able to make it there by 7.
-Eric
KirtC 09-18-2005, 10:10 PM Eric;
The post under your name is easy. I was having trouble with the PC in the Dining room, so I booted up the scanner PC and Hobbytalk auto recognizes the machine as you!
The track is smoother than the re-paved I-90 and freshly watered for the night. IT should be great tomorrow night. Track opens at 5PM, or when the late bus gets home (Sam).
Todd:
Mark Martin
Mike McLaughlin
Mickey Mouse (LOL)
See Ya tomorrow ......... At The Track
Kirt
KirtC 09-19-2005, 08:08 AM I've got it
Mark Murphy
or
Mike Murphy
Oh By the way
To all those that I promised you could use Eric's car as long as he wasn't home, guess we be looking for other rides for you as he's motor'in home this evening. (Sorry for being an Indian giver). Anybody that has a spare car please bring it tonight as I'm expecting a couple of drivers looking for rides. Kinda like Daytona each winter.
Todd Putnam 09-19-2005, 10:27 AM Tony Stewart beating me more than I beat him?!? How dare you guys even entertain the thought...
When I'm talking Celebrities and Legends, it can mean only one person...Mike Murphy...
Seeya all tonight...
KirtC 09-19-2005, 12:50 PM Mike Murphy on Dirt!?!
You must have really sold him on that line I've heard you use; "...trust me, its clay but with the bite of carpet...."
Lets hope so as we didn't get any of the heavy rain last week and the back stretch as turned to dust when I dragged it. But we soaked the **** sensored by NASCAR PC technicians *** and it should be in good shapt tonight.
We also have heard
Hot-Lap Holinger in coming out of his self-imposed semi-retirement
Mark Murphy is leaveing the HURGE-A-THON to join us
Gaggi is supposed to take over the driving duties for Scott H, as he is win-less so far in the series (Sponsor Pressureis Tough !!)
Kyle is looking ot get his old ride back from Louie to make laps
Eric is sprinting home from Binghamton for a one-nighter (err... over-nighter)
Sam will get the bus pass he needs and join in as well
Oh...........No consession stand tonight, way too compicated with the scouts!
See Ya....................At The Track

KirtC 09-20-2005, 01:03 PM What a night, although I was but about 40 minutes behind schedule due a loop connector trouble-shooting issue, the event went off without a hitch. A stellar, star studded field including the "Legend" Mike Murphy in a Putnam stable ride, Mark Murphy (no relation) giving my #20 a great run and traveling in for a one-nighter from Binghamton (College must be boring or we're that exciting) Eric C.
Thanks to all for your assistance with the Boy Scout Troup, they really enjoyed themselves and I don’t think we taught them any new words.
Hot laps were a bit tricky with no bombers to force out first; Chris L showed us just how slippery the surface was. But after a quick dusting of very fine kitty litter and 40 minutes of hot laps latter the track was like contact paper, so tacky most drivers didn't have tire compounds hard enough and the cars were actually bogging down in the corners. All except that guy named Putnam, who's ride continues to look more like an asphalt-modified carving through the turns; like the proverbial hot knife through butter!
I forgot the printouts with all the times, but the official 5 minute TQ run was eclipsed and elevated to 61. More was expected based on the July race which saw an extrapolation from 4 minutes to 5 minutes to a Qualifying run of 62 5:00.2 and a race run of 75 in 6:07.7. Off course these assume no drop off in performance.
More notes, comments and of course the full results later.
See Ya ..................... At The Track
Kirt
KirtC 09-21-2005, 12:54 PM I'd have to say that the bump-up has made the racing a little "uglier" these past few weeks. It seems that with that shot at the A main there a lot less give and take and a lot more broken cars leaving the track. Maybe its my imagination, or maybe its just the end of a long season bu twe need to work on getting everyone accross the finish line in one piece.
In the C main Steve B finally got all the monkeys off his back and took the checkers and on laps 15 & 23 posted the fasst time of 5.09
The B main promised to be the best race of the night, with 6 cars qualifying within 1 lap (or 5 seconds over five minutes) of each other. However, it turned into a very differnent race early. Bill D junped out to an early lead with the battle for second raging between Mark, Eric, and Gary. Eric broke on lap 13 after contact with Mark, Gary slid back to see C main bump-up Steve try for second on lap 27 when he to made contact out of turn four with Mark and dropped out two laps later with a broken rear susspension part. Mark pulled his rent a ride, leaving a wide open track for the four remaining cars. Bill D looked to have things all his way unitl 20 to go when the 50 machine of Tom f started pulling in the leader, and was showing .1 to .3 seconds per lap quicker. Just when Tom was about to make a move he hooked the turn 2 rail, lossing almost a lap and relagating second place to John S. It turns out that Bill D's radical gearing was too much for the cells and with 3 to go John S went sailing by to capture the win. Bill D did capture the fast lap with a 4.96 on circuit number 6.
The A main featured the one race Legend, Mike M in the Putnam house car, who put the field to shame by qualifying 5th afer not running a dirt car for years and never driving the car before that night. The race itself was a clinic in corner speed is where it's at. Even with the heads up start there was a gingle in the first turn, putting Todd P and Jim C way behind Scott early. Todd however, carved through the field over the next 30 laps, unlapped himself and took the lead, and finished 2 laps beeter than 2nd place Scott H. Chris L had a strong car to finish 3rd, with Mike M., Tom D, Jim C, and John S rounding out the field. TP's fast lap was 4.72 on Lap 5.
Thanks for coming. I hope you had a good time. The track looked awsome, maybe someday I'll even get to drive on it.
See Ya ...............Next Week in Latham ...............On The Big Track

Solartech 09-26-2005, 09:38 AM Is there a rain date if it rains tonight??
KirtC 09-26-2005, 12:45 PM Tonights scheduled Race 4 of the Quad Track Challenge has been postponed due to weather. We have now confirmed the re-scheduling, which will be tomorrow (Tues); sorry for those who cannot make it.
Please help spread the word, especially to those that don't have computer access days.
See Ya ................ At The Track

Echeconnee 09-26-2005, 02:42 PM We are building a dirt oval in Middle GA and don't know much about it. The straights will be 50' with 20' lanes and a 20' infield. We want to bank it slightly and have a grass infield. How does that sound? Any suggestions? What is the "kitty litter" for? We are planning on using WDRA rules and we have a lap counter already for our 305' concrete oval. What are the most popular classes among dirt racers? We thought we would start with T4's and TC4's to make it easy for the ready to run stuff to be used, is this a good idea? It sounds like you guys are having a great time up your way and if you are, I definitely want to know how you are doing it! Thanks

Solartech 09-26-2005, 06:01 PM Most dirt oval racers are running Customworks cars or a converted buggy with foam tires and a EDM body. The kitty litter was to dry up the clay after a rain storm.

RobRacer 09-27-2005, 03:01 PM Hi Guys, I will be late to the track tonight. Probably around 6:45 or 7. Can someone let Kirt know to register me....
Thanks. - Bob

No problem, we'll enter you into the line-up
Kirt
KirtC 09-28-2005, 01:03 PM It may have been a day late, and some would say a dollar short as 4 of the top runners could not make the re-scheduled event. We were greeted with another great weather night, and although the track received a much needed watering from Mother Nature, it was more like off road racing in an oval shaped track. However, by the mains it started to resemble a clay surface.
Thanks to all the Mini-T guys, great to Team Mostak, even though Sr.’s ride was piloted by Jr and he didn’t get to wheel his own car.
Cameo appearance by many as well: Ray B, Dave B., Dave L. and others I;m sure I missed.
I’ll post the results later tonight as once again I don’t have the disk with me in the office.
Although the Quad Track Challenge started out with its normal exuberance; it seemed to end on a sour note. Maybe the difference in track surface from the Pine Bowl to the Big Track being in-describable (even if I am a little biased) or maybe it was just the realization that its over. Next year we’ll adjust the venue or the race order to better accommodate the situation.
Pray for Chris to get his warehouse so we can continue to play on the DIRT, and don’t forget the WDRA series still has several races left, including one indoors in Watertown, on 16 Oct.
Till Next year
See Ya .................... At The Track
