I have seen members use photographs in their posts that I assume are screen captures.
How does one do this?
Can I make pictures from a movie I play in my computer's DVD-ROM disk drive?
How do I do this?

You can do a screen capture by pressing the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard and the pasting (ctrl-v) it into any graphics program.
You can copy DVDs using some freeware programs out there (and there are commecial ones too). I haven't investigated it much but maybe someone else can give more details.

When I use the "Print Screen" to capture a video image,
all I get is a black box where the picture should be.
I don't want to copy DVDs  , I just want to make a screen shot
to use as wallpaper on my computer.
I can play a movie on my computer, but I can't seem to capture
any actual pictures. The area where the picture should be always
comes out as a black, empty box.

Oh... I misunderstood, I thought you just wanted a normal screen capture. As you noticed, you can't do that on video. You would have to use some type of video editing software to capture a frame of video. I suspect there is some freeware available to do that but I haven't investigated it. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

look for a screen grab or frame capture
it is like pausing the movie then getting a print of it to paste or save another place as a JPG or other image format. It can then be printed or displayed.
if you have the program mentioned I can see if I can be more specific, otherwise try your Help files

Just get WinDVD(I have windvd platinum) and press the P key when you get the shot you want to use. I use the screen from the first XXX movie with Vin Diesel with the guns, wings, bullets, and roses for my background.
