View Full Version : PL Product Placement
Steve244 08-27-2005, 10:38 PM Features prominently in "40 Year Old Virgin". I don't want to mention what else features prominently. In fact I wish I didn't see it at all. It was one of those movies that looked bad in the previews but is getting good reviews. I'm so ashamed.
razorwyre1 08-27-2005, 10:45 PM was it an actual product placement, or a move by the creative staff to show what a nerd the main character is?
Steve244 08-27-2005, 10:49 PM Given the current management it's hard to say...
PhilipMarlowe 08-27-2005, 11:23 PM Wow, was it really that bad? The reviews have been pretty good, I was even thinking about braving a theater.
Steve244 08-27-2005, 11:36 PM Yeah the reviews looked great. Took the wife. We vowed celibacy after seeing this.
This reviewer got it right. (http://www.imdb.com/reviews/0405422)
Lloyd Collins 08-28-2005, 12:22 AM Big deal, I'm a 46 year old virgin! Sex is over rated any way.
phrankenstign 08-28-2005, 08:34 AM I'm a 45-year-old born-again virgin every day! Sex is rated "X" anyway.
John P 08-28-2005, 10:14 AM Believe it or not, Roger Ebert thought it was a sweet movie. :freak:

When Rocky premiered, Ebert also predicted Sylvester Stallone would be the next Marlon Brando. And that was back before Marlon Brando became a parody of himself. He's apologised for that since.
Steve244 08-28-2005, 10:47 AM Yeah, like when the girl vomited all over him on the ride to her apartment and he asked, "Did you have strawberry daiquiri tonight?" Needless to say they didn't hit it off.
Zombie_61 08-28-2005, 08:02 PM Sex is over rated any way.Yeah, I'm 44 years old and I'm beyond sex--I'm "over the hump". :D
lisfan 08-28-2005, 08:54 PM I'm a 45-year-old born-again virgin every day! Sex is rated "X" anyway.

Babaganoosh 08-28-2005, 09:07 PM Just saw the flick last night and I saw an Aurora Wolfman.
I was keeping an eye on everything in his apartment.
He remided me of me only he's a virgin.
Dave Hussey 08-29-2005, 07:08 AM I'd swear I saw a particular 12 inch action figure featured in the trailer on TV. An action figure once produced by Playing Mantis.................
Huzz
The-Nightsky 08-29-2005, 08:43 AM I saw an Oscar Goldman figure in the trailer along with that other certian action figure.
python 08-29-2005, 08:54 AM I didn't see any of the sweetness that Roger Ebert mentioned. Still, I liked it for what it was worth. There were a few genuinely funny moments. I thought it could have been about 20 minutes shorter as it kept repeating the same material over and over again.
Now....on to the obvious. How many of my fellow BBer's recognized half the crap in his apartment as things they have in their home? I saw it with my girlfriend and we both were in hysterics when we first saw his apartment. All the monster stuff - that's me. Then, near the conclusion, when he's packing his stuff for EBAY, she noticed me craning my neck to see all the stuff in the background.
Hoooo boy.
Dave Hussey 08-29-2005, 09:01 AM This flic will be worth a rent on DVD just to pause the video and identify all the goodies!

Well I admit I was more interested in the boxes getting crushed on the bed in the scene between Keener and what's his name than in the actors.
[geek mode] I think the wolfman was the playing mantis issue for Toysrus where they licensed the aurora logo and not an actual aurora. The box end looked contemporary. There were also some kits still in bags that looked suspiciously nxish[/geek mode]
Whatever you do, do not see this movie and expect to get lucky anytime soon, at least not with your date.
scotpens 08-29-2005, 04:54 PM Hey, at least it isn't "Deuce Bigalow - European Gigolo."
chiangkaishecky 08-29-2005, 06:16 PM Hey, at least it isn't "Deuce Bigalow - European Gigolo."
