Here I go again...
I "STILL" think that this is a miss-match!
Have been reading some stuff on other threads here at Hobby Talk, and I'm gathering that the SS5800 is equall to a 9 turn mod, and with the SS+ speed control or Novak's Newest one is equall to 8-1/2 turns...
So... Why are the Mods limited to 13 turns, That's like saying that if you want to run a V6 engine against V8s you have to take a spark plug out of the V6
Shouldn't it be SS 5800 Brushless or Six Cell "OPEN" Modifieds
ZIG
Sonny B 09-13-2005, 11:25 PM Not to butt in but the 5800 is equal to a 17turn brushed motor. The new 5.5 and 6.5 systems are equal to 11 and 13 turn motors.
Good luck with your new season.
Sonny
Dark Knight 09-14-2005, 12:39 AM Smokey
I think some of the guys are talking about 4 cell brushless, but I dont know if anything has been decided as of yet.In fact the rules that are posted were sent to the guys to see if they wanted anything changed or not.

I'm glad you butted in, but I don't agree with you...
Thanks, ZIG
j21moss 09-14-2005, 09:09 AM hmmmmmm no I agree with Sonny....he knows alot about the brushless motors.. and he works at a big r/c distrubutor..so he's right
Hello, Sonny B & j21moss
Thanks guys, I understand that "in theory" you double the turns of the brushless motor to equall a brushed motors turns... correct?
Well, I tried to compete with the rest of the guys in our C&C sprint class all last season.
They are Cobra Nemesis and Custom Works direct drives,We run 3300 NiMH packs.
All of the other racers ran the SS5800 System, I ran Reedy Tri-Sonic 13 turn Quints and all of the others could just leave me behind on the straight-a-ways like I was in reverse! I also tried a 13 double and blew the windings off the arm.
We had an outdoor race this summer and I broke down and bought a SS5800 system.
I had a little bit of trouble with the thing glitching but when it didn't glitch, it's faster than any motor I've ever had.
I ran one heat with the limited RPM program, It gitched in the second heat, and I parked the car before it got crashed, I had a little time to think about it before the main... It was over 90 degrees outside, in the sun, on real hot asphalt so I knew a couple of guys would thermal out... I geared down 2 teeth, reset the sc to unlimited rpm min. brakes, and left the 3300 battery out and ran a Trinity 1600 mah spec pack instead, and won
I am a kinda low-tec racer, but didn't just fall off the turnip truck either...
I've raced RC cars for over 15 years and have won a lot of races.
I guess all I'm trying to say is that if the brushless systems are this much faster, and cannot be matched equally to the mods, then the mods should not be limited... AT ALL !
Thanks Again Guys
ZIG
Z-Main Loser 09-14-2005, 06:28 PM I don't know much about any brushless systems but from what I have seen on the forums and from race results, 4 cell 19 and 4 cell brushless have very similar speeds. I do know that at Pete's with the brushless compared to mod in the sprints that they are also similar in speed. We use to run 12x2 and 12x1 right around that range. I have noticed that the sprints with the brushless don't seem to have as much rip off the corners as before. I'm thinking that the reason they are turning the same laps now is because the brushless isn't as fast and lets the cars handle better. The 6 cell brushless pan cars weren't as fast as the 6 cell stock cars. But the brushless cars handle a lot worst. We will find out for sure this fall at Pete's. I'm going to run some 4 cell 19 with some outside guys that come in while the regular group will be running 4 cell brushless. Then I can compare for myself. Call Pete or Ken and ask them what they think about this topic as they both have ran mod and brushless sprints.
Hello,Z-Main Loser
Didn't they used to run 7 cell in the sprints at Pete's before going brushless?
ZIG
Z-Main Loser 09-14-2005, 06:38 PM Nope, just 6.
Hmmmm....
I think your rite, maybe I should call Pete and ask?
Thanks,
ZIG
rc man 09-14-2005, 07:51 PM Smokey,
....We ran a pan car of Ted Poulson's, last year with 4 cell 5800 brush less sys. I thought the car ran real good with this set up.
j21moss,
....I plan on running the Maverick chassis this year. All I need to do is give Jake a call. I have a '03 Maverick (in the box yet) I got from Jake a few years ago. Work did not allow me to race that year. Last year I ran the Custom Works Sprint car, with a brush less sys. Hope to run more this year.

j21moss 09-15-2005, 09:06 AM Dave, kewl!!! I got mine last spring from Jake, and still haven't put it together yet.. got to get a L4 kit to build it right..Brad Hayes talked me into it, so I listened.. I got 2 other cars that Brad designed when he had ADX and they are still pretty good cars so we'll see how it goes this winter... can't wait until rug season starts.. probably run at Stout Field in Indy most of the season but will travel to Terre Haute, Fort Wayne, Huntington and other tracks in the state so I can get out more... also probably go to that track in Cincy to see what they got,so anyway sooner or later we'll cross paths at the track so until then...Race On!!!

Dark Knight 09-16-2005, 03:34 AM Hey Steve
Im sorry , been so busy that I didnt remember to get ahold of you. Yes , since other tracks are running 4 cell stock we changed ours over to 4 cell so we could inter race with other tracks and drivers.
Dont worry about it for the first race or two , you can still run the 6 cells since we changed and forgot to tell you.
my apologies.

say i qualify high in my heats do i get transferred with better drivers in the main if i wanted to run my pan car thx
Hello,muddd
We usually have 6 or less cars per class... so the answer would probably be no.
However, in the past when we had more than six cars the points were handed out as if the whole class was one heat... hope this helps!
Zig
RACING TODAY... DOORS OPEN AT 3:00 PM
rc man 09-19-2005, 07:10 PM ...Ran our first race of the year Sep. 18, at the PAL CLUB. We had 23 cars for the night. We got finished a little after 8:30.
...The 4 cell stock pan cars and the 4 cell brush less pan cars look to be the fastest growing classes.
...The brush less sprint cars had 5 cars run in the main. I will be doing repair work on the Custom Works sprint car.
...See every one in two weeks.

wallyworld 09-25-2005, 12:36 AM LATE BREAKING NEWS: Summit Raceway, Pete Russells, and Huntington came to agreement on rules friday for the new Indiana Outlaw Sprintcar Series. Dates and other details will be announced soon. Looking forward to racing with everyone this season.
wallyworld 09-25-2005, 12:51 AM Hoosier Outlaw Sprintcar Series
1. Cars - must be Customworks or Cobra Sprintcar kits. (Gearbox or
direct drive)
2. Motors and Speed Controls - Novak 5800 and GTB system only, to be raced in two separate classes.
3. Batteries - 6 cell
4. Bodies - must be kit body. Can be modified to cut opening to clear
motor, also scoops for cooling purpose.
5. Wings - kit wings must be used and are to be cut to dimensions as per
instructions.
6. Roll cage - full roll cage from kit must be used unless clearance is
necessary for motor protector plate on Cobra sprintcars.
7. Electronics - all electronics other than motor must be inside body.
8. Tires - Any car foam tires allowed.
9. Qualifiers and Mains - 4 minutes each.
10. Ride Height - As per track rules.
Hello Wallyworld
Just wondering why so many rules?
1. Cars - must be Customworks or Cobra Sprintcar kits. (Gearbox or
direct drive)
Gearbox or direct drive? We can't run gearbox at Hunt. or Pete's
2. Motors and Speed Controls - Novak 5800 and GTB system only, to be raced in two separate classes.
No SS4300 or Modifieds?
3. Batteries - 6 cell
6 cell what 3300, 3800, 4700, lithium ?
4. Bodies - must be kit body. Can be modified to cut opening to clear
motor, also scoops for cooling purpose.
Do you have to use the whole body?
5. Wings - kit wings must be used and are to be cut to dimensions as per
instructions.
How about a maximum size instead? Who's instructions Cobras, or CW ?
HMMM....
ZIG
KenBajdek 09-27-2005, 11:28 AM You can run gearbox at Pete's. Custom works cars are gearbox (the new one). Both will be equally as fast. The wing rule is simple use the wing that came with the kit and you will be fine (use the Cobra wing for the cobra car and the CW wing with CW car). I don't understand your question about using the whole body?? Some of the guys do not run the fuel tank on the Cobra car, but I do. It just looks better. As far as the motor rules for the Sprinter at Pete's are any Novak Brushless motor/ speedo combo including 4300(basically a stock motor), 5800(12 turn euquivalant), or the 5.5 or 6.5 with either GTB or SS speedo.
We are trying to keep the rules simple and not get bogged down with too many rules like NASCAR with templates, wt.s etc. This is a MODIFIED class so the motor or speedo won't matter. If the car isn't handling well no motor will make you faster. We kept the "brushless only" a rule to keep the cost down. Mod motors are very expensive to buy and the maintenance very costly too.
jasperracing 09-27-2005, 05:09 PM hey Ken I just got me a Brushless :-)) maby jams will run the 4 cell brushless class also that would be kinda cool
rc man 09-27-2005, 09:07 PM Ken,
....The reason I suggested the motor rule was because of the different size of the three tracks. After Pete and I talked last week, we said the two class might be the best way to set it up this year. Let me know.
.......Dave
jasperracing 09-27-2005, 09:32 PM any one with a late model Wana Run Petes this friday let us know i know for sure there will be 2 of us going one with a CW car and the other with a converted 4WD This would Be a Mod Class!! thanks

Hi Ken
Pete told us that we couldn't run any of the old Gearbox sprint conversions such as Big Boy Toys, Hot Trick, Ascot ect. because they had a gearbox...
I thought that's why it had to be a custom works are nemesis kit that were direct drive.
I don't understand! Just because CW came out with a kit that has a gearbox in it,they are legal now when you can still buy the directdrive.
BUT... any old gearbox sprint conversion is still illegal even though they are basicly the same thing? CW will still convert your buggy for you if you send it in... Is it a custom works car then? Team Cobra has a plate to bolt a stealth tranny in their nemesis, is that legal now?
The whole body... the tail is what I meant, they aren't just taking the tail off,it's the rear bumper and about 1/2" of chassis material too!
While I'm on this subject, the cars at Pete's are all beefed up with about $100.00 worth of aluminum braces and stiffeners,cvd's,64 pitch gears, associated chassis parts,1/8" spindles ect.
If you can do all of this stuff, What's the big deal about the bodies and wings? If it looks like a sprint car it's a sprint car! Hey Barry, your McCalister wing is as illegal as my homemade hood!
I understand the brushless only deal but don't buy the keeping cost down part, how many guy's have old mod motors and speed controls laying around.
My brushless is in for service so if I had to run a modified or not race at all,my mod motor would be illegal even though I'd get my butt kicked?
Sorry about being so long winded...
