View Full Version : Speaking of "stollen"...
Babaganoosh 08-20-2005, 12:41 AM What's the single-most valuable thing you've ever had stollen?
Mine happened to be about $500 worth of Star Trek and other sci-fi trading cards that were in a box and were meant to go with me in a secont trip to a new place. When I got back to get the rest of the boxes, they were gone. Just the cards.
I had a autographed doctor holorgam, 3 skymotion cards and various other chase and personally autographed cards in my collection. I had the "Mars Attacks" art cards, some silvery/shiny cards what had woman whith robotic components on them. Tank Girl, Alien, Aliens and a lot of Star Trek cards.
I also had a 13" color TV stollen. My first color one, too.
I don't really consider it "stollen" but I lent someone $100 and I never saw it (or him) again.
ThomasModels 08-20-2005, 12:49 AM Now I may not be the most observant person around here, but who was 'speaking of stolen'?
I take it that this has only happened to you very recently, hence the OT thread?

I believe he was alluding to a thread over at the Model Swap & Sell board concerning the trustworthiness (or reputed lack thereof) of a certain member who likes to write RAMBLING POSTS with LOTS of UPPER-CASE LETTERS!

Let's see, if you were moving along with another Sci-fi fan you would not even have to ask us this question...
So who other then a Sci-fi fan would want to deprive you of your obsessive collection of memorabelia? And steal nothing else? And leave the box so that you wouldn't notice the stuff inside it was gone until after the move probably so they could claim your forgetfullness was to blame?
I have to ask what should now be obvious, are you married? :)

" Don't let this happen to you. Get American Express. Don't leave home without it. "
I've had my dignity stolen...once...maybe twice...on Liberty...in foreign ports....:dude:
John P 08-20-2005, 11:16 AM The state of NJ passed a law in 1994 declaring that something I owned was illegal, and forced me to sell it or destroy it.
Thus a customized AR-15 target rifle worth approximately $1500 was sold to a gun show dealer for $350, which was the most I was offered given that it was a buyer's market.
That's probably the moxt valuable thing I've had stolen from me.
Chuck_P.R. 08-20-2005, 12:17 PM That sucks!
They should have at least let law-abiding citizens get a collectors license. :)
Not that Federal licenses were checked very well then.
I seem to remember a 60 minutes feature in which they were able to get a license based on just the submitted name and no documentation - they used the producer's dog's name.
But again, if that was their concern NJ could have just offered their own more stringently checked collectors license.
Griffworks 08-20-2005, 12:45 PM And, of course, the proper spelling is "stolen" with one "L", not two....
John F 08-20-2005, 12:46 PM I have a 1989 Formula Firebird 350, bought it new, over the years thieves have attempted to steal it 3 times, and have broken into it 3 more times. Contrary to what most thieves believe, the insurance does not pay the whole repair bill.
El Gato 08-20-2005, 02:56 PM I've been fortunate. The most valuable thing were train tickets someone took from me while I was staying at a youth hostel (full of hostile youths) 13 years ago. So I was stranded, a stranger in a strange land with *just* enough money to buy one ticket back. Whoever took the tickets, you're a bastard and I still hate you.
Otherwise, I thought someone stole my Skyfire from my desk 10 years ago... but it ended up being taken by some friends who played a practical joke on me. Every other day I'd get a Polaroid photo of my Transformer with a note written by it telling me what humiliation it was suffering at the hands of its captors. It was actually pretty funny.

Thanks, professor. :)

My bad. I was at the Modeling Swap and Sell before I posted this. I actually meant to put it in The Modeling Forum with an "OT" indicator.
Sorry about that.

Zathros 08-21-2005, 03:49 PM $5,000 worth of RARE coins from a client of mine that thought he'd try to pull a fast one on me..He got away with it for about 2 months..To make a long story short..when the smoke cleared ( & I do MEAN "smoke"), it wound up costing HIM $7,000.00...( being born in Brooklyn, NY HAS its Rewards)

HUH,WHA,WHO?
HA!
Remember the wise old saying: if you can't laugh at yourself, someone will do it for you.
I once lost several custom built-ups to a lunatic room-mate...oddly he returned the more generic/stock ones.
Two weeks ago a guy got fired from work, and he still owed me $80. So he probably saw some bright side to suddenly finding himself on the street.
Someone popped the lock on the trunk of my old '78 Electra when my wife and I were dating. Took a laundry basket full of clean clothes and towels. He was stupid enough to leave my stuff laying in plain sight inside his house, so with his arm-long record the cops were more than happy to come a-knockin' on his door. Got all my stuff back. Left the towels (used).
That's about it, really.
Oh yeah, since she's sitting right here watching me type: my lovely wife stole my heart!!!
*okay, dear, can I have my beer back now?*
rw2516 08-22-2005, 09:14 PM 30 years ago I had a '68 Dodge Charger. I put Cragar SS wheels on the rear, was saving to get them for the front. Had lock nuts on them. At the time I worked nights at a Sambo's resturant. Came out after work and and some ****s had left the front end resting on the drums. I guess they took the crappy factory wheels out of spite because the rear mags were locked. Still looking for the creep that stole my Lynard Skynard first album.
In third or fourth grade a kid who's name I remember but shall remain nameless was over to my house and swiped my entire baseball card collection. The idiot was stupid enough to bring them to school the next day to show them off. I ratted him out to the teacher and she made him give them back.
