View Full Version : Stinray model
Lloyd Collins 08-19-2005, 11:30 PM My childhood dream has come true. When Stingray was on TV, I saw the model at a store, and wanted it. But I never got it until today. I ordered from FABGEARUSA on monday, and here it is. I bought the DVDs a couple of years ago, and was looking to get a model. Then I found it.
Nice addition to my Gerry Anderson kits from Thunderbirds, UFO, And Space:1999. :hat:
veedubb67 08-20-2005, 04:00 PM Here what is?
Lloyd Collins 08-20-2005, 04:24 PM The model. It comes with everything but the paint. Motor, wires, glues lub, light. When built it can go under water or on top. But I plan to leave mine dry.
The Batman 08-20-2005, 10:37 PM I think what VeeDub is getting at is that you say "Here it is" and yet you've posted no PIC.... So, to us reading this thread, here it isn't.

Steve244 08-21-2005, 05:24 PM here it is (http://fabgearusa.com/stingray_motorized_model_kit.html)
I got one a while back from another retailer (sorry AT). It's cute.
Lloyd Collins 08-21-2005, 10:29 PM Oh, pictures! Ok. Sorry, I was just excited to get the model.
I hope to build interior of the sub, but it will take time to figure out the layout, from DVD screen grabs.
Since the model is designed as a toy to put in water, I have to change the way I build it. It comes with a bulb to light the cockpit?, but I will use LED.
I want to keep the motor to spin the propeller, but want to slow it down. Even using one battery, it is still too fast. How do I slow it down even more?
When I have some progress, I will post pictures.
Lloyd

Heresy! Stone him! Stone the heretic!
;)
Dude, how's life underground? You didn't even make it out to IPMS Nats as far as I could see...
Steve244 08-22-2005, 06:28 PM A travesty. My excuse (being a my-glass-is-half-empty kinda guy) is going to the Galleria is too much like work. Should'a spun it to make work more like a hobby.
Heard ATL IPMS did themselves proud.
I'll try coming up for air soon.

Try wiring in a variable resistor (potentiometer). You just adjust the resistance until you get the right effect.
Lloyd Collins 08-23-2005, 02:39 AM Thanks, I will do that.
I am now working on the seats. Since the inside is bigger than the out, like the Galileo, I am doing the seats, and two figures to help to get to look right. Having the DVDs are perfect research, but since I never thought I would get a model of Stingray, I now have to watch again.
falcondesigns 08-23-2005, 06:37 AM I have that and a few more in different sizes.I bought mine 10 maybe 15 years ago and recently had to replace the rubber joint which had cracked with age,it sits on my work table waiting to be finished.
Dave Hussey 08-23-2005, 08:42 AM Hey AT - how much would shipping to me up here in Canada be for a Stingray?
Huzz
A Taylor 08-23-2005, 12:23 PM Dave,
Check the FAQ page for ordering info, but the quick answer is pop it into the shopping cart, enter your address and see - we're hooked directly to USPS and UPS for shipping quotes.
Thanks!

Dave Hussey 08-23-2005, 01:36 PM Hi AT,
The shopping cart won't accept my Canadian postal code, even after I select country as "Canada".

Lloyd Collins 08-25-2005, 12:02 AM ^^ Looks really good. I noiced what you did with the propeller. That is what I thought of. I wished that it was clear.
I found some 1/100 scale men that should work, and now I am still finding parts to make the seats. I started with the seats, and men, so I could judge how far to lower floor
I tried a potentiometer on the motor,as Veedudd67 suggested, and it works great. So that is one thing solved.
As soon as I get the seats done, I will post pictures.

A Taylor 08-25-2005, 10:45 AM Looking forward to seeing them, Lloyd! Please post them on the FAB Gear message boards also if you get a chance. We've got a model building board there as well.
Dave, email me your full shipping info and I'll try to figure out what's up with the cart.
Sorry about that!

falcondesigns 08-25-2005, 08:56 PM The back propeller houseing is not attached yet,I'm thinking of trying to cast it in clear.I let you know if it works.Alexander Rivera
A Taylor 08-29-2005, 10:50 AM Huzz,
Airmail is $15.50. I've emailed you twice, but they are bouncing. You can either send us a check or M.O. , or you might try ordering from a different computer, I had no problem getting it to go in with your address.
Thanks!
