Ceramic or steel. We all know the ceramic are much smoother and do last a lot longer in most cases. But, which do you use or prefer? Murdock R/C is currently working on cutting a deal that could drop the price on bearing quite a bit. the price drop is yet to be determined but what I would like to know is this. Should I continue dealings to bring you better prices on steel as well. I have been in talks in regards to both ceramic and steel but our sales are around 20 to 1 ceramic over steel. So if you would take the time to let me know which one you prefer and if it would be worth my time to work out the deal on steel as well as ceramic.

Thanks for your time, Rob @ Murdock R/C & Peformance

Ceramic all the way. Diff balls I could understand an arguement, but bearings no way. Caramic are by far the way to go when it comes to bearings. This is just my opiniion of course, I interested in hearings others opinions as well. I know Burbs knows his stuff so I am not going to argue his point. Burbs, could I ask why? just curious?

No doubt, ceramics rule but for club racing I just use steel and save the pricey stuff for special events. I like the blue rubber sealed 1/8X5/16 front bearings the best because they are very smooth and free for steel and nothing gets in them, mine lasted an entire season before giving up. I got them from a company in Canada that called the shop and wanted me to try them.

Kat I agree, RC4less has the best price I have ever seen on ceramics, and they rock, went 2 seasons with them and they were still like new.

I've been on ceramics for two years now and my bearing bill has dropped dramatically.

I guess I have had the best luck with ceramics except I still have issues with the outside diff bearing at times. Other than that I have sets that are 2 years old and diff balls that are over 3 years old. As for price, the last I checked my prices are just as good as Bruce right now but if all works out we will blow everyone away. Cross your fingers and Ill do what I can to bring the price down on both steel and ceramic

Carpet racing - Ceramics, bar none.
Outdoor racing - Steel (I dont care if you clean them every run, a dirty track will wreak havoc on Ceramics.)

Rob, I too have had issues with ceramic RR hub bearings I went back to steel for that bearing, this way its cheap to replace often.

I tell ya if the concrete dust at BMS does the same thing to the bearings that it does to the front end,I'd have to agree with erock on that one.

This thread was about which do you prefer not where to buy guys. Bruce Im sure would not like it if he made a post and someone got on there and said to buy from Murdock R/C. Please nobody take any offense but some of your are staying from the topic not to mention that the bearings that most of us sell come from the exact same place so it is not about brand. Bruce and I are friends and I sure wouldnt want someone posting to buy from me on his threads. This thread was just to find out what everyone likes that way if this deal gets done MURDOCK R/C & PERFORMANCE will do everything we can to bring you even better bearing prices on both steel and ceramic. We are doing this for you the drivers. The discounts that I am trying to work out will not gain us anything but will save you a bunch. Thanks everyone

Ceramic all the way for me. Have been running the same set for the past season and a half.

Rob, I too have had issues with ceramic RR hub bearings I went back to steel for that bearing, this way its cheap to replace often.

I started running the thrust bearing setup and that has eliminated replacing the outer bearing. Have you tried using a thrust bearing like is descibed at http://www.rc-oval.com/rcoval/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=24&Itemid=45

Curious what your thoughts are.

I run ceramic in the whole car. I have had the same set in the car since the snowbirds. the only bearing that I have replaced is the steel bearing that I use for the outside of the diff hub.
Bearings are still smooth as glass!

yeah i tried that last season, did make the diff last alot longer between rebuilds but I hated sanding the groove out of the washer that rode against the thrust bearing. The setup was given to me by a fellow racer....If I had a surplus of the washers I would have given it more of a chance.

Only downside is you are putting more weight on the axle.
In stock I switched over to pro-lite gears and run lightened and rebalanced hubs. I didn't like the idea of adding more weight back.
