View Full Version : Free slot cars.......
Mark Hosaflook 08-15-2005, 03:37 PM Free slot cars at Fest and the rest were a buck. That's right, for those who went to Fest the Mopar release X-tractions went for 1.00 each as did the Bow Tie Brigade T-Jets while they lasted at the Learning Curve. If you came to Dinner you also got a free slot car.
Dave Machesney had an awesome drag racing track and four lane road race again with trophies, medals and more free slot cars. It cost nothing to attend again.
Many asked "why come to Fest" and after I heard that I figured the real collectors would show up and explain to the rest what the deals were.
And they said it couldn't be done.:p
rodstrguy 08-15-2005, 03:55 PM Markos, In another post I asked what would be done for the slot car fanatics... You said nothing... Now you rub it in our faces that there were $1 slots... Thanks a Lot. I'm glad I had to work so I don't feel as bad about missing out because no one could tell us a good reason to go to Fest. Makes me feel glad Tom Lowe bought the slot cars so I don't have to deal with JL/RC2.
Mark Hosaflook 08-15-2005, 04:39 PM That's not how I remember it. More like a lot of posts stating, why go to Fest if there isn't a Fest slot car. RC2 never gave me prices this year so I had no idea myself. There is a Fest info sponsor button on the right side of the screen before the show for a good 6 months with all the reasons to go and yet I saw negative posts out number anything positive 3 to 1 at least.
Now I report what was there and you are mad at me? You read it as in your face where I read it as "after five years" maybe you should have had a little more faith.
Captain Fred 08-15-2005, 07:27 PM MAN!!!!
I couldn't have gone anyway because of the time frame, but it isn't because I didn't want to. I've been spending the last couple of weeks getting ready for school here to start. Between "in service" & some of the classes & certifications and trying to help get my kids ready too, it just isn't a good time of year for me to take a trip. I sure wish I could have snagged some of those Bowties!
Hopefully, Mr. Lowe will have some more of those made. I haven't seen any in person yet, just pictures of them online.
I would've liked to come, but Chicago is a considerably longer drive from Pittsburgh than Mishiwaka, which was around 6 hours driving.
By the way, Is Tom Lowe going back to Mishiwaka?
sethndaddy 08-15-2005, 10:00 PM hopefully the guy who scarfed up the dollar brigades and mopars will be cool and offer them for sale, say here. I would drop 5 bucks a car for any and all the 59 impalas.
sucks, I was told not to bother going to the fest because theres no slot cars there. as said elsewhere, i'm glad Tom took the slot line. hopefully overproduced cars won't be getting dumped in someones lap again, for practically nothing.
sethndaddy 08-15-2005, 10:04 PM what I don't understand is this is a johnny lightning board, with johnny lightning SLOT CAR COLLECTORS/RACERS/DEALERS. why couldn't they offer the members here something first. 3 bucks a car is 48.00 a case. no picking ,no all I want is the red charger stuff, just 48.00 a case.
they would have tripled their money and made a bunch of us, their supporters, happy.
go figure, I guess its just a "who ya know world".

Because collectively, RC2 is a company that can't find it's butt with both hands. They have no concept of what a 'collectors' is, and they have absolutely no loyalty to their customer base. They have 'executives' that make dumb decisions like putting the FF cars out on a dealer flyer for a buck, thinking that this is a good idea...
They have, and will continue to, drive into the ground the products of every company they've aquired.
Plain and simple, they suck...
rodstrguy 08-15-2005, 11:38 PM Markhos, Sorry about my out burst, I know you were probably not privy to prices. However, many people asked about more than just the "fest slots" and we asked what if any slot stuff would be hyped by the company... I don't remember any answer that there would be slots other than what board members were bringing, nor do I remember seeing anything written that would say it's worth it for the deals at the sales. Knowing your diecast posts outnumber your slot posts 100 to 1 is what really set me off the most with this beginning post. That is my problem and I should not have snapped. Again, sorry.
Marty 08-16-2005, 07:59 AM If you came to Dinner you also got a free slot car.
Was it a special paint or markings?
Marty
Macs_Little_Car 08-16-2005, 10:21 AM No, it was just FREE!
My diecast posts outnumber my slot posts also.... mostly because I come and read stuff, just don't have much to contribute over here. Don't post just to see my name in type. I still get good info and help from you guys though

I understand...I would have been frustrated too. The fact is, I knew there would be no slot car this year and stated so. With that, slots were de-emphasiszed and we thought we lost our sponsor, strike two. Then, we found out slots were sold back to Tom. Strike three.
Then we show up for Fest and the slots are for 1.00 at the store and the sponsor shows up with two tracks and all of a sudden we had a slot program again. All uncharacteristicly last minute but all very nice surprises. The only planned part was the free slot cars in the Dinner bag.
In all honesty this will be the last year for slots and models I would imagine. We really tried for all three but changes kept it from happening.
I too hope the guy offers some up on HT at a good clip.
