noddaz 08-14-2005, 08:44 PM What would you think if you were the bidder in an auction and with an less than an hour left in the auction someone ran the auction up with bidding and then withdrew their high bid after they outbid you...?
Seems kind of strange.
If anyone is interested in having a look and offering their comments on this matter...

1976Cordoba 08-14-2005, 08:58 PM That seems like crap. "Entered wrong amount" -- whatever.

sethndaddy 08-14-2005, 08:58 PM Write to fleabay and explain what happened. give them the item number and the seller/bidder's names, they will investigate it, if they find the names are addressed to the same address they will both be suspended. If they can't prove it your kinda stuck. you could try to reason with the seller but it probably won't work because either A.) its legit and he will stand his ground or B.) he's a liar and a crook and will stand his ground because he's dogsh*t.
Just curious, did you see if the guy who hicked it up ever bid on the sellers other things? and has he bid on these figures before?
Good Luck

Ok, here is my take on this.
You bid a certain amount by proxy and ended up winning it for less/equal to that amount. So you got it for what you deemed it to be worth to you.
Now, was it bid up sleazy like? Maybe, maybe not.
Bottom line and lesson to be learned is use a Sniper Program. For the little that they cost you, the seller and Shill, they never see you coming.
And if you lose, it costs you nothing and you have the satisfaction of having someone else pay more for the item than it was worth to you.
I Like Auction Sniper myself. but i'm sure other programs are good as well.

Don't know what to say Scott about whether you were shilled, or not.... but it seems your 'competitor' there has the sniping software on his 'puter. He put in 3 bids in a 31 second span.
You got screwed ! Classic shill bidding. Def. complain to ebay ,
If you have high speed internet you don't need the auction sniper . I have put bids in with less than 6 seconds remaining . Just gotta play the game alittle.

Of course you don't NEED the Sniper, question is "Do you Want to be a Slave to the Computer?" and be there online exactly when it ends?
Trust me, the computer is way more reliable than risking the last minute manual bid.
Just my take, your mileage/Bid Wins may vary :)

sethndaddy 08-15-2005, 08:53 AM I'm a slave to the computer, besides, I like to be there for the exicting finish (with the bigger things I win, cases, lots, ect.).
and theres always tomorrow, cars are always popping up for sale.
Slott V 08-15-2005, 01:28 PM In my experience with eBay, if a bidder retracts his bid before the auction ends, the next highest bidder is commited to the purchase. eBay scripts should set the price back to the highest price that the last bidder offered, +- the difference in "bid ratio" from other bidders. If he retracted in time, and your bid won, legally you are commited to the purchase.
If the high bidder did not retract his bid by auction end, the high bidder is commited. If he backs out, you have really only 3 choices:
1.) you can force that bidder to pay the price by threatening to report him. He will lose his ability to bid if he neglects to make it right with you.
2.) you can go to the next highest bidder to see if they are still interested in paying their highest bid price offered, after explainging the mix up. That bidder can argue that they were bidding a price based on the guy that backed out, but it does not matter at that point. The next highest bidder is commited to that price when they entered the bid price. They were willing to pay the price. In that case you can't report the "runner up" though. They didn't win the auction.
3.) Offer the piece to the next bidder at a reduced rate set by yourself.
I had a bidder enter the "wrong price" and drove up an auction by over $100. At auctions end the guy replied and said he made a mistake. I pointed put that he made no attempt to retract his bid or even contact me. He was commited or I would go after him through eBay.
HE PAID!
