Please remember I am really puter dumb but I am learning all the time though lol

smojoe 08-13-2005, 11:29 PM "boot file not found" means one of the windows startup files got deleted or became currupt (force off-ing computer or power outage, most likely). I have never heard of hotplug.dll. My advice would be to save all the stuff you want onto CDs, or if you have alot of info, an external or secondary hard drive, and reformat and reinstall windows. Save only the most important things you have, as hotplug.dll is most likely a file to an application you downloaded, and transfering that application without the file will only continue the problem.
edit- hotplug.dll is a USB driver
hankster 08-14-2005, 10:05 AM One of the best places I have found to find out what dll and exe files are is at http://www.processlibrary.com
Just type in the file name and it will tell you what it does. hotplug.dll is a MS USB driver file.
omega_republik 08-15-2005, 03:56 PM im sure his problem is that he has an external USB storage device
if he turns it on BEFORE the computer, the bios will recognize it as a possible boot device and sets it at MASTER .... ( the one to boot from )
but if he turns it on AFTER the computer might lag when booting up but will go on after without any major problems ....
one way to solve this is to always leave it on and correct to "Boot up sequence" on the bios
or to leave it always off and wait for the computer to be on before plugging it in
Promatchracer 08-16-2005, 01:20 AM I don't have any external device hooked up to it I did try a couple weeks ago and hook up an MP3 player to it but it didn't work right
Now I can't even get it to boot up So I am stuck using the work one when I can
I already ordered a new Dell but I need to get this one up and running so I can get my Files off it
It wont even boot up in safe mode
If someone has any idea how I can do it LMK please
Hank Maybe you can call me and talk me through it or anybody else that can help
I can call you back if you want That way it is on my dime 906

Semore 08-16-2005, 10:33 AM The easyest way to get you files from the old hard drive is to remove it from your old computer and install as a 2nd drive on your new computer and copy the files over to the new computer. You also get e extrnal hard drive case and take the old hard drive place it into the extrenal case and then hook it up to the new system.
Promatchracer 08-18-2005, 12:50 AM Thanks Semore
How hard is it to do both things you stated
Also since I am in Da UP most techno stuff is hard to find where can I get the stuff
Semore and Hank both if you guys don't mind can you send me your #'s so I can call and ask some more ?
The New Dell I having coming shipped on the 16th and is The Dell 9100 series it is coming with a 160gb hard drive
If I had a virus or something else on the old system that cuased the problem will it transfer to the new one when I hook the drive up to the new one
Thanks for the help too guys
Semore 08-18-2005, 09:29 AM We if it were me I would get extrnal hard drive case, remove the hard drive from the old computer install it in the case and that will conect to yourt new Dell thru the USB port. Not very hard.
Open the case of the old computer you find the hard drive and then remove the 4 screws that hold it in, disconect the power cable which is Red, Black and yellow, then the data cable which is flate and about 3 inchs wide.

Promatchracer 08-19-2005, 01:18 AM I have found out that my hard drive it toast It has the krnl.exe error
So from what I was told I will need to find soem place or soem one that can do data recovery because there are picts and videos that I want on there that I will never be able to have again
So if anybody can do this or knows some place that can I Please LMK
I also got the new dell today and should be up and running on Friday some time I will E-mail you than Semore
I am also now in need of a hard drive so I can replace this one and sell the puter off
Thanks again
Semore 08-19-2005, 08:59 AM The krnl.exe file is a file used to by the operating system in order to run that computer. Your new Dell will come with a operating system already. You still can do what I had stated with any problems.
If you do the extrnal HDD trick that is what the data recovery folks will do.
At least give it try before pay some one a butt load of money to pull your data for the old system.
Your old system may just need to re-formated and re-install windows on it.
