Scotty Ernst and his International Indoor Championship in Las Vegas looks to be on his way to a GREAT Event.

So why do I post this on a OVAL board?

What is it going to take to do the same thing for US Oval guys?

Not a COMBINED Oval/On-Road race...but a single HUGE OVAL Race with MORE than just the race...there's POKER, there's a BUFFET, there's VEGAS~, and racing TOO....

This race WILL be "THE" race to attend I'm sure...

That is what Sandhills is NC is trying to create with thier OVAL MASTERS race in November. Many of the Oval Manuf have put up money to sponsor this one. Word going round this will be the 2nd biggest oval race behind the Birds.

Be there !!!

Erock,

There's a group of us who WANT to go to VEGAS to race though, The old KIMBROUGH 400 was cool, but we want a CASINO RACE...but the only way to make IT work is if there is a chance we can get a HUGE draw. I doubt any casino/hotel would think it worth their while to do a Banquet Room race for 75-100 racers, but 200 - 250...could work.

The thing of it is...JUST ANYONE can't pull it off. Some guys could spend a TON of money trying to pull a huge race together...and have no success, others I think could get the draw...just with their name attached to the event because of their Reputation.

To goto North Carolina would be cool, but it's another South-East race, (And I know that's where 85% of the OVAL racers are these days...), but what else is there...beside the race?

Also, I don't know how NOVEMBER is for a lot of people outside of that region for travel. For some, it's probably TOO Close to the 'birds', others, too close to the holidays, some...weather too bad to travel...lol You know, all the typical excuses...

GOOD LUCK to the SandHills and the ovalmasters, I've heard SOOO many awesome things about that track, I hope to get to come back and make some laps some day...

(How far is the Sandhills from...NASCAR Country, Mooresvill, Charlotte,...and some of the shops and stuff if I ever make it back there for a vacation?)

swtour,
oh i agree there are alot of guys who WANT to race in Vegas, but want and really getting there cheaply and realistically is 2 seperate things. If I lived in Cali, Zone or Utah, Vegas would be the prime location.

I hear what you are saying and I would love to go to Vegas to race as well, but think about it, how many guys can afford to take an R/C trip to Vegas. The T/C guys can swing it cause most of their big names have full rides with their comapnies who pay their way. In oval I dont know many that get their traveling trips paid for. Maybe a handfull of guys.

Most are gonna have to fly being Oval is predominantly in the East and Midwest. So you have a ticket to Vegas $200-$300.
Even if you get a discounted rate at the hotel still the weekend rate is gonna be upwards of $70-$90 per night. Most will be there 4-5 nights. Plus all the temptations of gambling, buffets, and everything else Vegas has to offer (wink wink, lol) is gonna be costly.
Most guys only get 2-3 weeks of vacation time, run that by the wife that you wanna use a week of it to spend in Vegas racing toy cars. You'll get that "are you out of your mind" look from her.

I think Sandhills is the perfect location for a big Oval race. I am from Ohio so 8 1/2 hrs of driving sucks but it's manageable and usually you can ride with a couple guys to split gas and hotel costs. It's drivable from NY, PA, NJ, DE, KY, TN etc too.
Also even though the Florida and Alabama guys never come up to Sandhills, it would be an option for them, a decent drive but you could still drive it. NC has alot of racers and so does Virgina.

SCOTTY IS THE OWNER OF MY LHS... He has said for the first year, its going to be onroad... He said next year, he WANTS try do do an oval event the following week... it wont be like the birds where it is 24 hour a day racing.. but the two races will be a week apart.. this is what i have been told , but it is just thoughts now..

the buzz i have heard to is that alot of onroad guys wont be going to the birds this comming year due to this race... but that is good for us... this will allow more oval racers to go to the birds.. most likley no cutoffs..

I would say scotty is one of the most well known peoaple, in the rc industry... He has worked very hard for all he has and has done, I doubt he will have any problem pulling an oval race together..

I'd be real shocked if this race has a noticeable effect on the Snowbirds being it is 5 months away. An oval race of this type in Las Vegas in the coming years at this time of the yeara would be cool though.
