View Full Version : Muppet Show First Season now on DVD!
modelnut 08-10-2005, 11:09 AM  AT LAST!
I have been waiting for this for years! I have picked up a few of their DVD's but have had little luck in getting a collection going.
Now I don't have to! The entire first season just came out in a 4-DVD boxed set yesterday, Tuesday 9th August.
Now I just need to see who has the best price, SAM's, WalMart or BestBuy.
I will definitely be buying it somewhere this Friday!
For those too busy to look through the following link Peter Ustinov and Vincent Price are just two of the guest stars featured in the first season! Though I think they are the only two with connections to SciFi.

Just think of the hours you can spend introducing the younger generation to the classic comedy of our childhood!
No more reality TV! At least for a while...

The-Nightsky 08-10-2005, 12:20 PM I picked this up last night...best price was at wal mart for 28$ and change...all the other stores want 29.99-35.99!!!

Lloyd Collins 08-10-2005, 01:50 PM ....this is what we call the muppet show.
I loved that series, and was in the fan club, too!
John P 08-10-2005, 10:32 PM "Why didn't the lobster give up his seat to the lady on the bus?"
"I dunno, why?"
"He was too shellfish."
God I loved that show.
Off to target tomorrow!
Just Plain Al 08-11-2005, 05:12 AM I liked it because the humor worked on different levels for different people, kind of like Vaudville I suppose. This is a must have for me, have to hit Wally World this weekend.
sbaxter 08-11-2005, 09:56 AM This means yet another round of annoying people with my Swedish Chef impression. After about a week, I'll start hearing things like, "Don't you even dare set foot in this kitchen!"
Qapla'

heiki 08-11-2005, 10:25 AM The Swedish Chef about to do frog legs with Kermit's nehew. Chris Reave doing Shakspere(sic) instead of superman. Cast of Star Wars with the Pigs in Space.
The list is endless....
PhilipMarlowe 08-11-2005, 10:30 AM I like the Raquel Welch episode, and I still drive my wife crazy with the classic:
"Bear left?"
"Right,frog!"
exchange on road trips.
The-Nightsky 08-11-2005, 12:24 PM I've watched two of the 4 discs in the set and I am amazed at how well this show has stood the test of time.
John P 08-11-2005, 04:16 PM Classic over-the-top burlesque humor is forever!
Linda Ronstadt singing "blue Bayou" dead serious, accompanied by a swamp-set full of little frogs keeping time with "Ribbet-ribbet....ribbet-ribbet..."
The show was pure genius.
modelnut 08-12-2005, 03:20 PM $28 at WalMart???
My WalMart won't part with them for less than $33.99.
Oi veh. I got it at SAM's for $29 and picked up the third season of SG1 as well!
So I'm happy. :hat:
Mt favorite Muppet moment (out of many) is "Ma-na-ma-na", which is featured in this collection!
Then there is Peter Sellers singing "The Gypsy's Violin".
And Zero Mostel performing "Figment of my Imagination".
And Tony Randall reciting " Green Eye of the Little Yellow God" http://ingeb.org/songs/theresae.html
And ...
You get the idea.

John P 08-12-2005, 04:06 PM Just picked it up at Barnes & Nobel with a discount coupon that brought it down to mail order price. :)
The cover is fuzzy!

rw2516 08-12-2005, 06:05 PM Reading this thread I'm reminded of "The Muppet Movie" outtakes skit on the comedy show Bizarre. Remember Super Dave Osbourne? Now this I'd like to see on dvd.
"Wait a minute lady, I got a six pack out in the car!"
GLU Sniffah 08-12-2005, 06:09 PM I'm more of a Dr. Bunsen Honeydew & Beaker fan myself.
My nickname was Beaker all throughout school BECAUSE of the Muppet Movie and it's similarity to my surname. ;)
spe130 08-12-2005, 06:34 PM I was always partial to the Swedish Chef and the two old curmudgeons on the balcony. :dude:
Lloyd Collins 08-12-2005, 06:54 PM NEWS FLASH!!!! Kermit the frog turns 50 next month! :hat:
Aged frog legs. MMMMMmmmmm :freak:
The-Nightsky 08-12-2005, 08:32 PM How can Kermit be 50......Didnt sesamee street premeire in 1969?
Yeah, but Kermit was "born" years before that. Henson and the Muppets didn't come into existence because of SS, just came into more public view. Other characters and...personalities...(for lack of a better word) were around for years prior to that in commercials and local market programming.
Pick up Jim Henson: The Works (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0679412034/qid=1123900278/sr=2-2/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_2/002-7793316-3698437). That's the Definitive Henson and Muppet book.
John P 08-13-2005, 10:11 AM No, it's fuzzy. The box has Kermit-green flocking on it.
